Chapter 4
Back at the station, Mia threw her mom's hat to Bob and yelled, "You're in charge until my mom comes back!"
Bob, though taken aback, nodded and replaced his firefighting hat with Freya's white one. "You got it, Chief Mia!"
Mia didn't waste another second. She hopped into her car, backed out, and zoomed to the crime scene again. When she arrived, she was met with a crowd of people, all buzzing with conversations and murmurs.
"I feel so bad for their family," one person said.
"Such a terrible accident," another added.
Mia, feeling a mix of anger and frustration, approached the crowd. "Are you talking about my parents?" she asked, her voice loud and clear.
The people turned to look at her, confusion evident on their faces. "Who are you?" someone asked.
"I'm Mia Detain, and the family you're all gossiping about is mine," she said, her voice trembling with a mix of anger and sadness. "My parents, my brothers... They're all hurt because of that accident. And I need to know who's responsible."
The crowd fell silent, awkwardly exchanging glances. Nobody seemed to recognize Mia or know any useful information. Mia's frustration grew, and she clenched her fists.
"Does anyone know anything? Anything at all?" she demanded, her eyes scanning the crowd.
A man stepped forward, hesitantly. "I was here when it happened," he said. "But it all happened so fast. I didn't see who did it."
Mia's anger flared. "Someone has to know something! This wasn't just an accident. It was an attack. My family is full of firefighters and police officers, and this was meant to hurt them. Someone saw something!"
The crowd murmured again, but no one came forward with any more information. Mia felt a surge of helplessness wash over her. Just as she was about to give up, a voice called out from the back of the crowd.
"Wait! I saw something!"
Mia's head snapped toward the voice. It was her friend, Rose. "I was here when it happened. I saw a red car speed away right after the explosion."
Mia's eyes widened. "Did you see who was driving it?"
Rose shook her head. "No, but I remember part of the license plate. It started with 'R34'."
Mia's heart raced. "Thank you," she said, her voice full of gratitude. "That helps a lot."
Turning back to her car, Mia's mind raced with possibilities. She had a lead now, something to follow.
Then, Rose yelled, " Wait, Mia!"
Mia turned back, and Rose said, " You're not going... wherever you're going alone."
Mia smiled.
She just hoped she could figure the out before anyone else got hurt.

Meanwhile, back at home, Duke heard a loud snore coming from next to him and woke up. Seeing from his non- bandaged eye, he looked at Freya, who was in a fitful sleep.
" Freya, wake up." He whispered, shaking her gently with his non-bandaged arm, careful not to roll her on her arm or leg.
Freya yawned and sat up.
" What happened?" She asked. Then, she looked down at her arm, and the events that happened yesterday came back. " Oh."
Duke nodded, stood up, and walked to his son's rooms. Allen first.
" Allen, time to wake up." Duke said in his gentle voice.
" Gimme five more minutes, Freya."
" Freya?! Allen, I'm your dad!"
" Uh-huh."
Duke sighed and rolled his eyes. " Well, get up."
Then, he went to Clemmons room.
" Wake up." Duke said.
Clemmons groaned and rolled on his bandaged leg. Pain shot through his body.
" OWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!" He yelled.
The commotion woke Buster up, who ran to Clemmons room and helped him up.
" Thanks." Clemmons mumbled.
Buster gave him a thumbs up.
Then, Duke realized someone was missing.

Tom Brennant was peacefully cleaning his desk when the phone rang.
" Biscuits and Gravy!" He muttered, picking the phone up.
" Captain," Duke said into the phone. " Have you seen my daughter? She's not at home."
" No, Lieutenant. I have not."
Then, Cheif Wheeler skated in.
" Dude, there's this gnarly person outside who's being overly radical!" He cried out.
" Nice, Cap-" Then, Brennant's eyes widened in realization as he said, " Hold on, Duke. There's an emergency that just came in. I'll call you later."
Putting the phone down, Captain asked, " Chief, could you repeat that?"
" Totally! There's a person who's driving like a gnarly officer!"
" Chief! Did you see who was in the car?"
The chief paused, and his eyes widened.
" You don't think-"
" That's Mia?!" Captain cut in. " Oh dear!"
" This is a total problem!"
Captain Brennant immediately sprang into action. "Chief, get everyone mobilized. We need to stop Mia before she gets herself into more trouble."
Chief Wheeler nodded, his usual laid-back demeanor replaced with determination. "I'm on it, Captain!"
As the alarm sounded throughout the station, officers quickly gathered, receiving their instructions to locate and surround Mia's car.
Meanwhile, Mia, with Rose in the passenger seat, was driving with a purpose. She knew she had to find the owner of the red car with the partial license plate "R34." Her mind raced with the possibilities, but she stayed focused on the road, her hands gripping the steering wheel tightly.
"Where do we start?" Rose asked, glancing nervously at Mia.
"We'll head to the places where people might have seen that car before," Mia replied. "The shopping district, maybe the old warehouse area. We have to be quick and smart about this."
As they drove, Mia noticed the increased police presence. "They're onto us," she muttered, her eyes darting to the rearview mirror.
"Why are they trying to stop us?!" Rose exclaimed.
"They think I'm in over my head," Mia said, her voice steely. "But I know what I'm doing."
Soon, several police cars appeared in her mirrors, lights flashing and sirens blaring. They were trying to surround her. Mia took a deep breath, remembering all the training she had absorbed from her family over the years.
"Hang on, Rose," Mia warned, making a sharp turn down a narrow alleyway. The police cars struggled to follow, some getting temporarily stuck.
Mia skillfully maneuvered through the tight spaces, her driving precise and calculated. She took another sharp turn, emerging onto a busy street. The police were still on her tail, but she had gained some distance.
"Wow, Mia, where did you learn to drive like this?" Rose asked, clutching the seat.
"My dad," Mia replied, a hint of a smile forming. "Now, let's lose them."
She headed towards the old warehouse district, weaving through traffic and using every trick she had learned. The police were relentless, but Mia's knowledge of the city's layout gave her the edge.
Just as they were nearing the warehouse area, Mia spotted an open gate leading into a construction site. Without hesitation, she swerved the car through the gate and into the maze of partially built structures and heavy machinery.
The police hesitated at the entrance, unsure of how to proceed without causing damage or getting stuck. Mia took advantage of the confusion and found a spot to hide behind a large stack of materials.
"We'll wait here for a bit," Mia said, catching her breath. "They won't think to look for us in here right away."
Rose nodded, still amazed by Mia's driving skills. "You really are something else, Mia."
Mia smiled. "We can't stop now. We need to find that red car and whoever's behind all this."
