Thirteen
First Year,
Eternal Flame
Detention was where their latest prank had landed them, the troublesome trio. Had the pleasure of cleaning up dust-filled classrooms. As she looked around she could have sworn that no classes were taught in these rooms. That they were used for the sole purpose of detention, especially when no matter how much for scrubs and wiped, the room didn't look any different.
Cleaning the classroom by herself gave her time to think. Rhea hadn't spoken to Laura since the incident, did she listen to her about pranks. Yes. She was all for not pranking anyone for the rest of the year. Until George and Fred convinced her to join them, in hopes of cheering her up.
It did cheer her up. 'Stop trying to be like your dad,' she hated that Laura believed her to be trying to be like him. She had always been like her father, there wasn't any trying necessary, she just was like. Whether it was his stubbornness that her mother hated or his creative mind, she was like him, and there was no changing that.
After Professor McGonagall had excused her from the detention, she hurried to her dorm room. She might be like her dad, but maybe she could look a little different. As she walked to her room she let out a sigh of relief that the other girls weren't there. As she looked through her clothes she found the most 'girly' clothes which weren't many.
"I told you, it's fine we'll meet there," Rhea quickly tried to stuff the clothes back in her bag, upon hearing Alicia.
"Packing already?" Angelina asked
"Yeah, you know, you can never be too prepared to go home," she said, smiling at them
"Okay," Alicia said, flicking her eyes to Angelina, "We were actually looking for you,"
"Me? Why? Whatever they said, I didn't do it-
"No nothing like that, we were wondering if you were going to the world cup this summer?" Angelina asked her
"Oh, erm I'd love to go, I'm not entirely sure what we're doing though,"
"Well, that's fine, I'll give you my address so you can owl us and let us know," Alicia told her
"Yeah, me too," Angelina said, as they both wrote down their address giving it to her
"Can I ask you something?" the nodded waiting for her to continue, "do you think I'm too boyish?"
"I think you have style," Angelina told her, "Just because you aren't 'girly' doesn't mean you're boyish,"
"Really?" she questioned
"Yeah, I love your look, if I had your confidence, I'd dress like you too," Alicia told her.
"It's great to have gal pals, like you, that way I can talk about this kind of stuff,"
"I imagine the boys aren't very helpful," Alicia added, she nodded,
"Sometimes, I look at Phoebe or Laura and I'm nothing like them, Phoebe's hair always looks great and styled, I rather spend more time in bed, than messing with my hair, Laura loves makeup and while she doesn't wear it at the minute, when she does, she'll be flawless I'll end up with a black eye,"
"You shouldn't compare yourself to them, its confidence that makes the person, I don't know your sister very well, but she lacks confidence," Angelina stated,
She agreed with her, Phoebe does lack the confidence that she had. Rhea always struggled to connect with girls, she grew up around five women plus her aunts and she could just never connect with their interests. Whereas the men in her family, she could always hold a conversation with them, regardless of the topic.
Angelina and Alicia were the first girls that she felt she could genuinely be friends with, it wasn't hard to talk to them. It was easy, they shared her interest whether it be through quidditch or the music they listened too.
"Do you want to listen to my CDs?" she asked they nodded sitting on their beds.
'Close your eyes, give me your hand, darling
Do you feel my heart beating?
Do you understand? Do you feel the same?
Am I only dreaming?
Is this burning an eternal flame?'
The girls danced around, using their hair brushes as microphones as they stood on their beds like a platform for their performance. There wasn't any doubt that other Gryffindors could hear them, they took turns singing a part.
"Do you feel my heart beating?" Alicia sang
"Do you understand? Do you feel the same?" Rhea followed
"Am I only Dreaming?" Angelina sang.
"Is this burning an eternal flame?" they sand together
They laughed as the girls flopped down on their beds, these girls were different they were like her. Alicia left to get them some food from the Great Hall, Angelina went down to the common to apologise for the loud noise not that anyone would be concerned, Rhea took a piece of parchment, eagerly writing a letter to her dad.
Dad,
My friends invited me to go to the Quidditch world cup, so please tell me you don't have anything planned so I can go. It's two girls, Angelina and Alicia, no boys going. Unless they haven't told me about them. It'll get me out of the house during the summer. I know, Walbitch will appreciate that.
Love Rhea.
At this point, it sounded like she was begging her father to let her go, the chances of him letting her were great. It's whether he believed she had befriended two girls. Even if he didn't let her she could always give him the sad puppy-eyed look and he'd melt and agree to let her go no doubt.
