Part 5: Connection

After what seemed like hours worth of tag, we all were exhausted and literally crawled our way to bed because we were so tired. I brought the phone with me so I wouldn't lose it and hid it under our bed.

"How was your day?" Mark asked, half awake.

The question sort of surprised me. "Excluding this situation I'm in, it was a great day." I quickly realized that I lied. I had slowly been getting more and more comfortable with this situation. I also liked being a Pikachu more, and less so a human now. I frowned. So many things have happened in a short amount of time.

Mark saw right through me. "Are you sure that there isn't anything that you want to tell me?"

"Ok. I may be getting used to my new body and all that..." I confessed while I rubbed the back of my neck. I never thought that those words would slip out of my mouth, but they did.

"Oh, okay. I guess I'm used to this now like it's normal." He yawned. "but I also guess that I've been here longer than you have."

"Yeah, I know what you mean," I said, returning the yawn. "Let's get to bed; I'm tired, and I bet you are, too." We curled up next to each other and quickly fell asleep.

My phone rang from under the bed, which made me jump. Mark was probably startled too, because he leaped into the air, and out of the bed, landing painfully on his tail. I quickly answered the phone.

It was Professor Birch. "Hello? Are you there Jake? Why is it so dark? it's only three in the afternoon." He had his special headphones over his ears like he did before.

I groaned. "What? It feels more like midnight. Yeah, I'm here. What is it?"

"Well, Pokémon do tend to sleep most of the day, and from what it looks like, you are." Professor Birch realized. Okay, thanks for that weird information that I didn't even need, professor.

"I can't believe this!" I said stressfully. "Anyway, back to the reason for the call? Make sure to be quiet; this is Team Thunder's base."

Mark mumbled something about what I said was obvious.

Birch talked quietly, "Oh, yes. The whereabouts of the Team Thunder base has been discovered. The police are on their way, along with the Elite Four, the gym leaders, some Pokémon Rangers, and some other voluntary trainers that said that they had some strong Pokémon! Isn't that great news?"

"That is wonderful news! Are there people coming from other regions?" My question sounded like it was coming from a mouse's quiet mouth. Oh, wait, it was.

"From what I've heard, yes. But it's going to take such a long time for them to get here that there's going to be two waves to attack the base. I'm just hoping that Red comes..." Red was the most famous, most powerful Pokémon trainer in the world. If Red came, Team Thunder would most likely surrender.

"Umm... Can somebody tell me what's going on here?" Mark winced as he rubbed his tail with one of his forepaws.

"Thank you so much for doing this for us. I appreciate it." I said. "Goodbye!"

"You're welcome, and good afternoon." The professor hung up. I turned off the phone and put it underneath the bed again.

I turned to Mark. "I'll tell you about this later."

After what seemed like forever, we finally managed to fall back asleep, but before I did, I thought I should put the phone under me. I wondered when the rescue team would be attacking. And why did I have a feeling that I should hide the phone underneath of me? After pondering on these questions for about five minutes, I was too tired to stay awake.
