Part 20: The Amulet of Chronicles

"Wha..?" I sputtered as I looked over on the couches once more. "Mew, what are you doing here?"

He looked up from the couch, which he was apparently jumping on, and turned to me. "Oh! There you are, Jacob. I was just, uh... Looking at your couch here." Mew giggled, and for the first time, I realized how childish his voice was. "Where's Mark?"

"He's asleep like I could be," I informed him, yawning in the process. "What's happening?"

"The Council of Gods needs to hold a meeting, but we can't do so without Arceus's permission," Mew stated as he bounded off of the couch and hovered in the air.

I sighed. Last time they held a meeting, we ended up going on a mission. A mission in which I almost died. "If it's that important, I guess I'll go get Mark." But it was too late. Mew had already rushed to the room in which Mark and Red were sleeping, which was followed by a startled yelp from Mark.

The messy brown hair came into view from the bedroom as mew guided us out the door, which I once more locked behind me. Then, using my golden PokéCore, I transformed into Jirachi. We were then teleported to Pokelantis, where all the other gods and goddesses were waiting impatiently.

"Can't this wait for tomorrow?" Mark said grumpily as he rubbed his tired, baggy eyes. "I was having a good dream." After saying this, he used his PokéCore to convert himself into Arceus.

"No, Arceus, this cannot wait for later. This is urgent news." Dialga stated. "Ever since your attack on the Yami Region, The Dark Order has been planning to destroy the Amulet of Chronicles, which contains an extremely important prophecy. We knew for millennia that they would try to do so, but we never knew when. So, in order to prevent chaos in the future, we split the Amulet into three parts. We need you two to find them and bring them here, where they belong."

I chuckled, thinking this was all too simple. "Are they all in this region? If they are, then the Dark Order would already have them."

Solgaleo frowned. "Jirachi, they aren't all in this region. In fact, two of them are in completely different dimensions. The third is in the hands of the Dark Order. This will be harder than you imagine it will."

Ha, I thought, no wonder why they haven't found the Amulet of Chronicles yet. Then the thought struck me: they were all in different dimensions, not regions. Finding each shard in three completely uncomparable worlds would be like finding a needle in a haystack. Harder, to be precise.

"Okay then, we'll do it. Where's the first piece of the Amulet?" I questioned. This did seem like a bad situation. If the Dark Order knew where the shards of the Amulet were, they could destroy it, along with the prophecy in which the Amulet spoke of, whatever it may be.

"The first piece is in the human world and will be the easiest to reach. It is in the possession of a boy. Go to the Guardian's Island and tell Hoopa that Arceus sent them. After you receive the first Shard, give it to us. Then, tell Hoopa to teleport you to the Pokémon world. The second shard is in the hands of a rather greedy Persian." Mew told us.

We began to walk away, but then Mark stopped and asked a question that was burning inside of him. "Wait... the human world? Aren't we already in it? And shouldn't I be in charge? After all, I am Arceus."

"No, We aren't. The human world is a dimension in which Pokémon do not exist, which reminds me. You will have to leave all your Pokémon related items behind. That means to PokéCore; it will shatter to a million pieces. And don't bring anybody else with you two." Palkia spoke up. Then, answering Mark's second question, he added, "And yes you are supposed to be in charge. However, you still have things to learn.

Something told me that I shouldn't bring Bailey, Samantha or Red along with us, especially since Palkia told us not to. So before we left, we asked for a PokéCore to give to Red. Upon approval, we grabbed one from the basement-like storage room and teleported back to the apartment building. Transformed back into a human, I fumbled around for my keys, unlocked the door, and rushed to get to bed. Tomorrow was going to be a big day.

Mark's P.O.V.

The alarm went off with an annoying electrical buzz, one that almost sounded like a bug zapper. Groaning, I moved my arm up to slap the alarm clock, only to press the snooze button. Being quite frustrated with the overly large and useless button that would activate another series of buzzing, I unplugged the clock before anything could happen.

"What time is it?" Jacob said groggily as he re-positioned himself in the bed. When I didn't reply, he sat up and shook me, repeating the question.

That's when I realized what I had done when I was half asleep. Groaning, I replugged the alarm clock into the wall and remembered that I would have to reset the clock. I then grumpily checked my watch, frowning when I saw what time it was. "It's four o'clock in the morning. Why did we even have to wake up this early again?"

"Look, we need to pack supplies for your trip. That'll take most of the day, mainly because we want to make sure that we didn't miss anything. Things like this mission need to be taken seriously, okay?" Jacob said, annoyed. He then got up to change, also pulling the blankets off of me to wake me up. Of course, I was already awake, making the move quite pointless.

We spent the entire morning and afternoon packing supplies for me such as food, clothes, camping supplies, and anything else necessary for the long trip.

Red, who was given the PokéCore we received from The Council, was happy to be able to be a human again. He and I promised to take care of Samantha and Bailey for us while he was gone.

Right as soon as I was about to leave, Bailey saw me leaving and begged, "Please, let me come with you!" She obviously was worried about me and wanted to make sure that I was okay. However, I was concerned that the task ahead of him could be too dangerous for her.

"Bailey, as much as I would love to have you with me, there's a huge possibility that it's too dangerous for you. Red and Jacob promised to take care of you." I smiled sadly, then added, "I would bring you, but it's probably better this way. Oh, and Jacob, I'll call you on my PokeNav when I get on my way."

Bailey nodded slowly and closed the door, realizing that I was right. I stepped down the staircase and headed out of the apartment complex.

As I traveled towards Littleroot, I came up with a plan for getting to the destination. Since I had no other way to travel across the sea to Guardian's Island, I decided to use the same ship that we used to escape Yami region. The problem was, however, the fact that the boat was at the dock next to Professor Birch's laboratory.

I had almost boarded the boat when Professor Birch came out and stopped me. "What do you think you're doing? I'm not allowing you to go anywhere on that boat without an explanation."

I considered lying but stopped when he realized that he'd lose trust with the professor. "I'm going to the Guardian's Island."

Birch suddenly became a little bit interested. "You're going to the Guardian's Island? You know, nobody has ever come back from there to tell the story. Some say you need special permission from Arceus to even set a foot on that legendary island. What makes you think that you can do it?"

I smiled, folding my arms. "Because I actually have permission from Arceus. I cannot tell you why, however." Then I remembered that Jacob had wanted me to tell Birch that he was sorry for panicking him. "Jacob also says that he's sorry for frightening you when we docked here."

Birch was speechless at first, not knowing how to reply to such a serious thing I said. His mouth hung open for several seconds, then gestured towards the boat before heading back to the lab. He stopped at the front door, turned back to look at me one more time, calling back, "I should be the one apologizing. I was being rude to you when you saved hundreds of Pokémon trainers." With that, he entered the building and closed the door behind him.

I then strode across the rest of the ramp, boarding the boat. An eerie feeling of loneliness swept over me as I looked around at the emptiness of the ship. As I walked towards the control room, I recalled Red teaching me how to steer the boat and navigate using the map and compass. I sighed as I flipped several switches on the control panel. As I did so, the engine hummed to life, eager to go on its next journey.

"Let's do this," I whispered to nobody in particular, leading the small boat out of the dock and into the unknown blue that lay ahead.
