Part 16: Breaking in
Sometimes, things cannot be avoided. The situation I was in right now was one of those times, and I knew it from the time I showed myself to the mischievous Team Thunder. Then, they brought my friends and I to the Yami Region, a place that I quickly realized was not a peaceful place but was the definition of chaos. If I were to get out of this heck of a place, I'd consider myself lucky.
"Jacob, you okay? You spaced out right there for a bit." Mark asked.
"Yeah, I'm fine, I guess," I replied. "I just don't know how to get to the Team Thunder base." I pointed to the massive, high tech building surrounded by a tall barbed wire fence.
"Just dig underneath of the fence," Bailey told me. I had forgotten about Bailey, so she made me jump when she spoke.
"Of course!" I facepalmed myself. Embarrassed, I continued to talk. "Okay, let's go." We started to walk off when Samantha came up to me.
"Wait! Can I come with you?" she looked at me with her big, amber-colored eyes. Something was obviously troubling her.
"Sure, why not?" I nodded. "We could use another person in our group."
"Yes, but you don't understand. I caught a scent of my master. I want to look for her because something is wrong. Her scent was covered with a stronger scent of Pokémon, so I think that Team Thunder did something to her."
"Yeah, they turned her into a Pokémon," I informed her. "That's what they did to me, and two of my friends. It's not a great thing at first, but then you get used to it." At that, the Vulpix's face paled as her blood drained from it. Her mouth hung open as she was trying to gather all this information, but her brain failed to compute.
"Okay, enough chit-chat. We're losing time, and by Dialga, we need to get to the Team Thunder HQ before dark." Mark ordered us. Ever since he became Arceus, he's kind of been acting pretty bossy.
As we entered the dense jungle-like environment, we finally got close enough to see the entrance of the massive structure, which was a Beedrill's nest with guards swarming the thick steel gate. We then stopped to come up with a plan to enter the building with little grunts noticing.
"Well, there aren't many guards at the entrance. We can distract most of them and take out the rest of those grunts." Bailey noted, trying to sound positive. "We just need to figure out how we're going to distract them, though. Any ideas?"
"We don't have to go through the front door. When you are trying to sneak into a building, you don't go up to the porch and knock on the door. You try to find a different entrance, like a window or even an air vent." Mew stated. Wow, is everything he says so wise but serious?
"Well, it's definitely worth a shot." Genesect said optimistically. "We'll split into groups. Jacob, you take Mew, Mark, and Bailey. I'll take Victini and Samantha with me. Each group will go around one side of the building to look for an air vent. When you find one, don't hesitate to enter. If you don't find one, then we'll meet at the other end of this structure."
With that, we all went our ways. I took my group around the north end and spent a lot of attention to the wall of the base. As I cautiously walked on all fours, I saw a few air vents, but they were too high for us to reach, even if we were humans. But there had to be some way to get to them. We couldn't climb trees because there weren't any trees close enough to the vicinity. There were also crates everywhere, which wouldn't be much of a use. Wait a minute, crates and climbing.
"I've got it!" I exclaimed joyfully, maybe even a bit too loudly. "We can stack those crates to climb them, therefore getting to the air vent up there." It was simple in my mind, but it was easier said than done. The crates were twice the size we were and filled with some heavy material for who knew what.
Finally, after what seemed like years, we had stacked up eight crates just to get up to the air vent. Without hesitation, everybody else but me slid down the duct while I struggled to knock down the staircase of the wooden boxes. As they started to tip, I leaped into the slick metal tube. I was sliding only for a couple seconds when I landed on top of everybody else, who were groaning in pain.
We rested for a bit in what seemed to be a small storage compartment about twice the length and width of a bathtub, we then struggled to open the door, entering a long, dim corridor.
"We probably should have gotten a map," Bailey grumbled. "That way, we actually know where we're going." She was right. If we wanted to know our destination, as well as our location, then we'd need to acquire a map.
"Maybe we should try this way." Victini pointed his finger down towards the left hallway. "I think I can feel the auras of other Pokémon." With that, we walked off down the stingy corridor as we listened for the sound of activity of any sort, whether it be Team Thunder grunts or Pokémon playing around with each other joyfully.
Later, my ears perked up when they picked up a familiar sound. I waddled up to an electronically sealed door, pressed my left paw onto it, charged up, and took out the alarm while opening it. However, I still wasn't skilled at controlling my electricity, so some shot back at me.
Almost simultaneously, the doors stopped and we were able to enter the vast room similar to the one on the ship. A few Pokémon looked at us in confusion, some even in anger, probably wondering why we weren't being escorted by Team Thunder grunts. Then, a Piplup waddled forward.
"Are you crazy?" He screamed at us.
