Part 14: Forbidden Secrets
When I woke up, I was being held by Bailey. She smiled when she saw me open my eyes, and I blushed. I looked around and realized that I was in an extra tent that my dad set up for Bailey.
Mark was also in there. "You okay, Jake?"
"I- I don't know. I can't remember anything right now..." I replied groggily. "Well, except that I blacked out... What did happen while I was unconsious?"
"Nothing much. We saved you a couple of sandwiches, though." Bailey informed me.
"I... I don't feel like sandwiches right now..." I said, not even making sense to myself. "I don't know why, but-"
"You always liked them though!" Mark spoke in a confused voice. He's right; I always liked my mom's sandwiches, especially tuna.
"I didn't say that I wouldn't eat them," I told him as I got a tuna sandwich and bit into it.
Hearing something around ten to twenty feet away from the tent move, I dropped the sandwich and went out of the tent. My ears twitched when I heard voices emitting from a bush. "Those fools! They thought they could run away from us. Wait for my signal to attack." With the capability of talking in both the Pokemon and human language, I could easily tell that they were people. But either way, it was obvious.
When I came back into the tent with an expression of fear on my face, and Mark was the first to notice. "What's wrong?"
"Pack as much stuff as possible. They found us." I replied hurriedly. "I'm going to tell mom and dad."
I sprinted as fast as I could on four paws towards my parent's tent, but it was too late. a team thunder grunt was inside the tent, negotiating with my parents. "Those kids belong to us! If you give them to us, we'll spare you and give you enough money to last the rest of your life. Just think about everything that you could do with that." Then he turned to my dad. "...Or we'll have to take you back to work in the lab."
"I thought that you'd leave me alone if I kept a secret!" My dad shouted angrily at the slender grunt that was holding a PokeBall. "That was a promise after I resigned."
"I know, but we require more... assistance." The grunt lingered. "Even I don't know why my boss wants you so much, nor those boys! He never tells me anything! All I know is that you all are vital to our conquest, and it's necessary for you guys to be brought to the main base, located in a different region."
Hearing the last part, I transformed into a human and jumped into the tent before my dad could stop me. "I will go."
My dad looked at me like I was insane. "Are you kidding me, Jacob? You have no clue what it's like."
"I'm pretty sure I do, dad. I spent two years there as a Pikachu. Besides, I'll be fine; I have friends coming with me." I said as a couple tears trickled down my cheeks.
Mark and Bailey then came into the tent, followed by another Team Thunder grunt. "Found these two in a different tent." The second Team Thunder grunt sneered.
"Please, don't do this!" My dad screamed as he broke down sobbing.
I turned to one of the grunts. "We'll be ready to leave in ten minutes."
"Okay. If you try running away, we'll take Scott King along with us." He grinned mischievously, leaving the tent.
"Dad, you worked for them?" I asked, wishing he told me this before. I hated it when people kept secrets from me.
"...Yes. But that was when they were called Proton Inc. It was before this... mysterious boss appeared when the old one retired. About a month afterword, a scientist discovered a way to change the DNA of living organisms, which was something that scientists all around the world have been trying to figure out how to do.
"Then, someone suggested that they try and transform a human into a Pokemon. The boss agreed, and several experiments were performed. However, the people in the experiment suddenly died two days after the tests, making the public and the test subjects' families extremely angry with Proton Inc. When this happened, the boss was quite annoyed, so he created a band of people who agreed with him and created 'Team Thunder'. This was when I resigned." He then broke down into another fit of sobbing. When he calmed down a bit later, he looked at me straight in the eye. "Don't go, Jacob. They'll kill you! You'll be nothing other than a guinea pig!"
"But dad, don't you see? They've already succeeded. They proved that you can turn people into Pokemon. I need to go to save the people that they used." This was all true. They have obviously succeeded, but now they were just making people's lives miserable, lives that would never be normal again.
"...I understand," he said, looking down. The mood in the tent was a sad one, consuming any happiness that existed.
Just then, mew appeared. "Jirachi, the others are-" He stopped when my dad looked up and saw the mythical Pokemon. "...Uh, I mean, Jacob... Er... I can explain." Well, so much for telling us that we had no right to tell our parents earlier.
"Explain what?" My mom, who had also seen Mew appear, replied a little too harshly.
"First off, that is no respect to talk to a god like that." Mew hesitated to continue. "Secondly, what I can explain... Is something you will unlikely be able to understand. Jacob and Mark are gods." There was a collection of gasps that consisted of the other three's voices. Mark and I just casually smiled like this was a normal thing to say.
"Don't tell me this is true... Is it?" My mom did not handle things like this well. It didn't help that I was already risking my life or the fact that she was extremely emotional.
"It's true," I said, then turned to Mew. "Where are they? The others?"
"They're outside. We each have a PokeCore, but this plan of yours may not work."
"Outside!? Team Thunder will definitely capture them if they're in their normal forms. Please tell me that they're humans right now..."
"They are," he said as a PokeCore appeared in his short paws (are they even paws?) and transformed himself into a human with it. Thankfully, he had clothes on afterward.
"I'm sorry dad, we need to save Red. Goodbye, mom. Dad." I closed my eyes for a while and exited the tent. Team Thunder grunts cuffed me and walked me to a van. They shoved me in, along with everybody else: Genesect, Victini, Mew, Bailey, and Mark. Then, the van doors shut, leaving everything in darkness. About thirty minutes into the ride, I dozed off.
