18: Attacked!

Almost instantly, the alarms blared throughout the entire vicinity, meaning that grunts would appear any second now. I scrambled to get up and, seeing that everybody else was gone, sprinted down the hallway towards the exit. Suddenly, a freezing chill pulsed down my spine, slowing me down considerably. This only meant one thing: Gengar. I stopped and looked around, and froze right where I was when I saw two shadowy figures behind me.

"Well, well, well. It's been awhile since I've seen you, Jacob." the tall silhouette spoke first.

"I don't recall meeting you," I said bravely, although my mind was screaming in fear. This was followed by a chuckle from the menacing figure. The truth was, I did vaguely remember the voice.

"Ah, but I do. It was when you spent your last moment as a human trying to run from us, only to be knocked out by Zekrom," he said smugly.

"Those weren't my last hours as a human. Professor Birch helped me transform back into a human," I remarked. This surprisingly made him disappointed.

"I was hoping that wouldn't happen. That means that what Arceus said before I killed him was true..." he replied. Then, as if he read my mind, he said something to the other figure, then they revealed themselves to me. My jaw dropped, then I turned to run. When this happened, the figure lifted me up with an incredible psychic power and slammed me into the wall, gashing the side of my head. "Jacob King, I must have you killed."

When I heard this, I leaped back as my cheeks rapidly sparked with electricity, almost uncontrollably. "I will not die. At least, not from you." I let loose the charge, which caused devastation in the building, turning off the power to the entire facility and stunning the pursuers.

Using this advantage, I sprinted as fast as I could down the hallway, entered the broom closet we entered in and made an attempt to scramble up the air vent. I got about halfway up when I lost grip and slipped down, landing on the hard floor below me and groaned in pain. A small pool of blood oozed from the gash on my head, making me dizzy.

The massive figure entered the small room and loomed over me, his Pokémon-like eyes glowed an eerie glow, slightly illuminating his crooked smirk. "Jacob, there is no escape. Even your being a Beta Pokémon won't help you. Just give up, just let me kill you. Life will be easier for your friends and family." his voice bellowed with anger, making me shiver.

"No, things would be different without me." I retorted, only to groan in pain afterword. Then, a plan came into my mind. I used my PokéCore to transform myself into a Tailow, then struggled to fly through the air vent, escaping the building.

From the air duct, I could hear him scream, "Jacob, I will hunt you down, and I will kill you! Not even Arceus can do anything about it. Oh wait, Arceus is dead." he then gave out a spine-chilling laugh that filled the air with a feeling of dread.

As I transformed back into a Pikachu, Mark and Bailey turned and saw me. They gasped when they saw blood trickling down my cheek, staining my yellow fur red.

Bailey screamed. "Jacob! Are you okay? What happened in there?"

Still stunned by what occurred, I said in a shaky voice, "He tried to kill me, Mark. The Team Thunder leader just tried to kill me."

"Who are you talking about? We need to know." Mark urged me as I struggled to regain my strength.

I only had to say one word, but one word was all that was required. It was one that made everybody's eyes widen in fear. The word- or rather, name- was this: "Mewtwo."
