The end was near.
At last.
The clock was ticking, the effects of the Time Stone fading in strength gradually, like the last breath of a dying man coming to the doors of death.
One last moment to shine for the last time.
The battle was the epitome of a raging storm, each attacks being dodged or blocked by the force of hope.
Time seemed to slow down as the flame faded down little by little, revealing the shape of the Mad Titan.
The heroes stood, unfallen, watching their enemy being devoured by the power of the dragon. Battling your wings, you landed not far from the scene, changing back into your human form. You walked towards the alien, your feet burying themselves in the remains of the Compound, and you grabbed the Infinity Gauntlet from the desolate ground.
''No more stones'' you muttered, licking your teeth as you could feel the burning energy of the infinite relics you had eaten.
However, a low chuckle snapped you out of your thoughts. The taste of victory started to get bitter at the sound of Thanos' chuckle.
'' A twist in the balance of the worlds, you might be the last of your kind, Dragon, but you are dying.'' the titan stated, his purplish orbs locking with yours as a smirk tugged at his burnt lips.
His armour was torn in pieces, his skin covered in marks of burnt but he still lived.
You frowned, not liking the way he was looking at you.
' Something is wrong' you said.
Looking frantically around you, you watched helplessly the world of victory vanish into a place of desolation covered with the bruised and barely alive bodies of your friends. They were stuck by the stones, forced to watch the incoming fight scene. All they could do was wait for the battle to end, hopefully with your victory. Their eyes glowed slowly, beaten, yet still alive.
A wave of burning anger made you screamed at the Mad Titan, the feeling of being tricked being immensely painful as you had lived this moment before during your love story with the god of lies. However, this time, you would fight back.
He had tricked you.
''The Reality Stone! You tricked me!'' you shouted, transforming back into your reptilian form while the titan grabbed his sword.
The last remnant of reddish smoke faded away, showing you that he had indeed used the Reality Stone on you, depicting the false reality of your victory. Yet the battle had not ended.
''You really thought it was going to be that easy? Than That pointless fire would destroy, me, the Mad Titan?'' he exclaimed darkly, ''Your heroes are nothing against me. You will die, Dragon, just like your parents. And they will watch your miserable fall."
Your eyes widened as a sting of pure fury ignited your body. You snorted at his words, shaking your head and a gold aura started to encompass you.
You closed your eyes for a second, smothering your doubtful thoughts while you took a deep breath.
''You may have the Stones, but I have something you will never hold. Something greater than power."
Peter's tingled senses peaked and he groggily sat up next to Tony Stark who was trying to stop the bleeding from his wounds. He witnessed the fight, helpless along with the rest of the Avengers, Doctor Strange and Loki. They were all lying on the ground, beaten and bruised, trying to catch their breath as the scene under their eyes unfolds.
''Oh no, she's going to do it, no, no, no!" Peter panicked, trying to get on his feet, but his body was numb.
''I'm sorry, kid, there is nothing we can do but watch. Thanos is using the stones on us. He wants an audience as he destroys the last hope of Earth.'' said Tony sadly.
The heat in your body increased, your scales shining gradually as the fury and the love you bore for your world grew again and again. It spread like a twig on fire, the blazing feeling overwhelming your whole body.
You were burning up, never had you been so hot and warm in your life and you knew that this power could defeat Thanos.
You roared loudly, to which the titan grinned. You took one look back at the team, their eyes pleading to slay the alien, others pleading you to stay alive, to survive this madness and even some orbs shone love and hope towards you. They put their hope, their trust, their future in you and you fully intended to not let them down.
"Whatever it takes" you murmured to yourself, staring for a moment at the team. Your eyes locked with Stephen, the sorcerer frowning a bit, then to Loki who was trying to come to your thanks to his powers but to no avail. You appreciated the action as the emotionless god let rarely himself get emotional. He wasn't so bad after all.
It warmed your heart and a small smile graced your lips before you turned your attention back to the fight.
You charged towards Thanos, raising your wings in the air to surge faster. With one thought in your mind, you delivered the final attack, determined to slay the alien, the person who was ready to kill half of the universe to save it from its incoming death, with no regards to the people living in it.
You faced the threat, not running away from it as you had done in the past. You put all your strength in the blow, even if it hurt you.
Opening your jaw, you snatched Thanos' sword, and ducked his punch swiftly. He groaned in pain but kept his balance, his muscles tightening under your blows. Spinning around, you used your tail to send him away. He flew into the air, a few gasps from the team accompanied his fall. He crashed down on the pile of ruins with a grunt. A yell of applause was heard in the background but you remained focus on the fight.
"Kick his *ss" Steve yelled, which earned him tons of hushed 'language' while others cheered.
Your eyes scanned the area, landing on the thing you were looking for: the sword of Thanos.
"The Stone of Time will be mine, Dragon." snarled Thanos, raising his golden fist towards you, the Power Stone energy vibrating strongly.
Growling, you closed your jaws, attempting to break the sword. Its sharp edges delved into the skin of your mouth but you kept going, feeling the metal bend under the pressure. As the titan activated the stone, a ray of purplish blast hitting you, he added:
"You fight with despair. You can not save this world. You are nothing but a speck of dust."
You rose your wing up, a frail attempt to protect yourself against the attack, soon, the smell of burning flesh hit your nose, but you felt no pain. You were so lost in your action to break Thanos' sword in order to strike him down than nothing else mattered.
Groaning louder, you tightened your jaws, successfully breaking the weapon in two which made the titan's eyes widened at the deed.
"Impossible" he muttered, conveying more strength in the blast of energy.
You had broken a metal stronger than vibranium with your bare fangs. He realised his armour would do nothing against your jaws and he stepped towards your form carefully, gaining speed faster and faster, still aiming at you with the infinity stone.
You smirked and in one swift move: turned back in your human form, spun around to avoid the blast and picked the half-sword in your hand.
With a scream, you slashed it on the titan's chest, going through his armour like silk while a scream of surprise left his lips.
Purple blood streaked down his wound as you took your breath back. You started to step back to attack him again when he suddenly grabbed you by your throat with the gauntlet.
A scream shattered the battle's air, pleas and fear breaking your focus on the battle. You glared as much as you could at your friends, laying down on the floor, not far from you with devastated faces.
"You can't save them," growled Thanos, his voice deepening.
Tony was holding Peter against him, the boy's face plastered in tears as he watched the titan choke you to death.
"Please, fight this, Y/N! You can do fight him!"
As your eyes locked with the other heroes, you realised you couldn't die, you couldn't let Thanos win. After all, you were the Wild Sentinel, no one could stop you, not even a Mad Titan!
You felt the thunder hit the area around you as Thor tried to free himself from the power of the Space Stone. Turning your gaze back on the titan, you locked eyes with him, his amethyst eyes shining at the face of victory. However, these eyes soon turned into a flabbergasted air when you put your hands on the gauntlet and let the power within you flow freely. A blazing aura illuminating your body, the heat spreading into your limbs and growing hotter and hotter. You needed to be hot enough than a star, and therefore you let the furnace inside you bloom into something more. You conveyed all your heat into your hands, in order to melt the gauntlet.
"Maybe it would be enough to melt the stones" you thought, the lack of oxygen started to be problematic.
"You can not stop the inevitable" stated Thanos, squeezing your throat harder.
With the last of energy you had, you pushed Thanos' hands away, a blast of blazing fire melting gold wavered in the air while the alien stumbled on his feet, dumbfounded.
The stones were scattered on the floor, the spell of the Space Stone vanishing and allowing the mighty heroes to raise on their feet again. As they came to stand behind you, ready once again to defend their world, you smiled.
However, as you regained your breath and tried to control the heat in your body, Thanos grabbed the other half of the sword and swiftly plunged it into your stomach. A gasp of horror left your lips as you gripped the sword, trying to stop it from diving deeper into you. A devilish smile grinned his lips as you fell down onto your knees, clutching the sword left in your abdomen.
''You may be a good warrior, but you are nothing to me'' he said proudly in your ear as you struggled to breathe. The blood coloured your hands of a crimson shade and with shaky hands, you took the hand of the sword, pulling it off.
A bolt of lightning stoke right into Thanos' chest, capturing his attention for a moment.
''Thank you, this was all I needed to end this'', you whispered as you removed the sword from your belly in one quick movement. Your blood scattered at your feet as you stood up, proudly.
Closing the distance between the alien and yourself, you dove the blade into the Titan, earning a gasp from him. It was his turn to fall on his knees, his blood dripping from his injury while you raised the blade in the air and stated:
''I may not be able to stop the inevitable but I can stop you'' you stated before slicing the alien's throat swiftly.
You held your breath as the flame of life left the eyes of the alien, a low sigh escaping his bleeding lips while his body hit the floor, lifeless.
Clutching your side, your numb hand dropped the sword, the metal sound echoing loudly in the dreary silence. You managed to turn around to see the heroes smiled gratefully at you, relief washing over their faces as the threat was now gone.
However, you also felt yourself drift away, your legs giving up as Peter, thanks to his spider reflexes caught you up. his hands moved the strands of hair out of your face.
"We won, Y/N. Stay with us. Stay with me" he pleaded while you tried to keep your eyes open. The Avengers gathered around Peter, Loki kneeling as well to put pressure on your wound and muttering healing spells at the same time.
But deep down, they all knew.
The end of the Wild Sentinel had come.
Suppressing a moan of pain, you reassured the team:
"It's okay, it was an honour to fight with you, to know you all. Thank you for everything."
Peter's tears fell upon your cheeks while he clutched your body. Your gaze wandered on the others, memorising their faces filled with tears and sadness one last time.
"Don't die, please. you promised," he stated, trying to stop the inevitable.
"I can't stop the bleeding, Stephen help me!" exclaimed Loki as Stephen simply put a gloved hand on the god.
"I'm sorry." the Sorcerer simply said, holding his tears as much as he could.
As you glanced back to Peter, your vision slowly started to get dark, you pronounced your final words:
"Forgive me, Peter. I protected my world and my family. And for this, I have no regret. I will always be with you. When you don't feel good, look at the stars."
Your body started to get numb, your breathing slowing down until you fell limp into the spider man's arms. A golden aura encompassed your body, shining brightly while confusion appeared on the heroes faces. Your body broke into thousands of gold nuggets, disappearing into thin air before flying to the sky, becoming the Dragon Star. That night, and all the nights they followed, the heroes would look at you from below, a sad smile gracing their lips.
That day, the world may have been saved but hearts were forever broken.
No one forgot the legendary actions of the Wild Sentinel.
THE END.
