It had worked.

The sweet honey taste of victory and the bitter taste of defeat, two sides of a war but with opposite endings.

Today, however could be misleaded to both.

Fearless beasts of legends, roaring the fire of destruction on their path, fierce defenders of treasures had always been victorious, yet today the bitter taste of defeat left you powerless. The legendary shadow of the sky, the terror of kingdoms, had been defeated by the Mad Titan, breaking the glass of hope in one snap.

As Tony, Bruce and Stephen tried to stop the bleeding of your injuries without hurting themselves with the sharpness of your scales, but your mind was boiling. The weight of realisation burdened your body, as you looked at your teammates trying to help you.

«Why? Why did I fail ?» you wondered, your eyes stuck on Stephen who was flipping the pages of a book.

Wh

« Something is wrong with Y/N, she's losing too much blood, » muttered Doctor Banner, as he noticed the flame of your furnace slowly dying out. You didn't fight to live, you endured without a word escaping your lips. A plan was slowly forming in your mind, where weakness could be used as bait. You closed your eyes, your eylids covering your reptilian orbs while you released a sigh of pain.

Stephen was pacing back and forth, whispers of old spells escaping the sorcerer's lips while he passed his hand through his sliced black hair.

« Dragon fear, dragon weakness, .... Found it, dragon healing ! » he exclaimed while rushing to your side when you groaned loudly at Banner's treatments. You turned your head at him who didn't flinch at your stare, but he was so focused in his work to stop the bleeding, however you could glimpse flickers of green shading his skin.

You snapped your eyes open at Stephen' statement, locking eyes with him as his eyebrow frowned in concentration.

« Everybody step back. » announced the mighty Sorcerer.

« Stephen, you can't just stop in the middle of a surgery, you all of us should know that. » Tony said in an ironic tone.

However, he complied with Strange's request when a giant blazing pentagram appeared in front of you, encompassing your dragon body while Stephen muttered a series of spells and gestured the spell to heal you. Loki stood in the back eyeing carefully the scene., the young Peter looking francitally from Tony, to Bruce, to you and then to Stephen, anxious plastered on his adorable face.

« Always know your opponent. » had once said Loki to her, when love was blooming between the two of us, sat in a wild meadow.

With a smirk, the god of Mischief, noticed your body twitched while the Sorcerer's magic overwhelmed you, a burning feeling washing over your wounds.

The price of healing was pain while the price of knowing your opponent was defeat. You could have told the Avengers about this, about how you wanted to know what Thanos was capable of even if the cost was to let yourself beat down but it was a risk you weren't willing to take. If th purple alien knew about this, all this would have been for nothing. So yes, you had let yourself get hurt to get close to Thanos, but now you knew.

You knew his flaw.

As soon as the bright light faded away, you changed back into your human form, hiding your nakedness as most as you could while the Cloak immediately rushed to your sides, wrapping itself around you. Peter blushed madly and looked elsewhere, stuttering something about :

« She...she's naked »

Loki rolled his eyes at Peter's remark and snapped his fingers, nugget of emerald escaping his fingertips. New clothes appeared on your body, fitting you perfectly and you raised an eyebrow at the god, when you noticed the main colour. He spun around, leaving the room and said simply :

« Green always suited you, dear. »

Then he disappeared in the Avengers compound, Thor on his trail while you sighed, before you had the time to give him a piece of your mind. You were still angry.

Angry at yourself, angry at Loki who had given up the Space Stone, angry at Thanos who had broken the small flame of hope and you groaned slowly, making Bruce stepped back as he feared you were going to change again. Peter closed the separate meters and jumped into your arms, nuzzling his face into your neck. Intinctively, you wrapped your arms around his frail body, his suit being smoother than you though it would be.

« Are you alright ? »

You stroke his brown locks, mumbling a yes at his never ending questions and hugged him tighter. Fortunately, he wasn't hurt, nobody was hurt badly , except you.

You looked at Stephen who was watching you thoughfully, and you mouthed him a thank you. The spider boy always managed to make you feel better and you pressed a small kiss to his cheek when he straightenent his posture to look at you in the eyes.

« Let's go, we have a meeting to attend. »

You jumped off the infirmary bed, your legs supporting you effortlessly and you took a deep breath, turning your head to the Avengers.

« And thank you for saving me. »

Tony snickered, clapping his hands, and putting his arm over your shoulder, leading you to the kitchen. He was oddly friendly, but you didn't mind his closeness. You knew how broken he was. He may be called « Iron Man » but it didn't mean he was unbreakable.

« I can add ' healing dragons ' skill to my resume »

You shook your head, laughing softly.

« As if you needed to work, billionaire. »

The genius rolled his eyes.

« You missed a few. I should be the one thanking you. You did save me from a punch which would have cost my life. »

Stephen stepped at your side, turning Tony down.

« I would have used the Time Stone to bring you back. »

« How reassuring, thank you, Pointy Hat. »

You crossed the corridors, the Avengers not so far behind you and arrived in the kitchen where the rest of the team was settled. You spotted Loki in the corner of the room, his eyes scanning you, clearly enjoying the view and you made your way to him. Once face to face, you slapped him hard, conveying the feeling of defeat in your hand. The god barely flinched and looked at you grinning.

« What you did was foolish, Loki. Trade power for a person when the world is at stake is absolutely foolish, » you stated darkly.

« And so I thought, you would be grateful I saved your petty life. You know in the depth of your heart, you are lying to yourself, weakling dragon.»

You raised your head up, leaning closer.

« I may have appreciated this a long time ago, but your deed only confirmed what I feared about you. »

He scoffed, raising an eyebrwo at you, challenging you silently.

« And what would it be ? Am I still the monster you loved ? » inquired the God, crossing his arms against his chest.

You poked his armour as your words sliced his heart open.

« You were afraid. From all these years, you've never been afraid of anything. You were hurt, treated badly, feared, lost and in pain, but never have I seen the glimpse of fear on your face. It doesn't suit you, Loki. »

A heavy silence lingered in the room, the Avengers looking at the debate in confusion, slowly realising the two of you knew each other very well.

« Wait, are you saying Reindeer Game here and Toothless were together? » Tony stated dramatically, pouring a glass of scotch as well.

Thor boomed proudly.

«Yes, Man of Iron. It was a happy era where my brother wasn't evil. Unfortunately, it ended when he chose power, or in other words, the throne to Y/N. »

Loki gritted his teeth, the urge of stabbing his brother varying from moment to moment. His eyes locked with yours, shining with dangerosity and love.

« I do what I want. »

You poked him again, harder.

« Yeah, well look at where it led you, Loki. If we want to defeat Thanos, we are going to work together. »

Clint snorted.

« Not a chance, sweetheart. I don't trust him. »

You sighed turning towards Hawkeye.

« Whether you like it or not, we are a team. You might not like your partners, but you 're all going to go beyond our feelings and fight for what is right. »

Steve spoke, his posture conveying the righteousness of the soldier.

« Y/N is right. This is war. »

With the two gods, a genius, a wild green beast, a spider boy, two assassins, a scarlet witch, a black panther, two soldiers who had fought the worst wars, a sorcerer supreme and a dragon, perhaps had you a chance to defeat Thanos and relieve yourself from the burden of fear ?
