Illusions are the masks of reality, degrading the truth into the utopian unreachable world that offers the lie. The pleasant lie which will warm your heart to hide the true identity of life. Is it a benedit or a crual joke, none shall say, except the God of Lies perhaps.
Truth is not flexible, lies are. Lies adapt to your mind, while you should adapt to the truth.
Today was a day where the Avengers should adapt to the harsh truth that is defeat. The team wasn't broken, not yet but it was on the verge of drowning into despair and you couldn't let that happen. When everything falls to ashes, only the memories remain. These emotions running through your veins like a burning poison made you realise that nothing is immortal. Everything fades from one way or another. It could happen to the Avengers but also to Thanos.
« Nothing is lost as long as you don't say you give up » you muttered to the group.
Broody moods, lost in thoughts, and fear crawling its way in the darkest parts of their minds, the Avengers were the ghosts of themselves.
What is a soldier without a war, without hope?
What is an assassin without a target?
What is a god without power?
What is a genius without his inventions?
What is a spider without its web?
All things are intertwined in the core of life, meaningless without a purpose until it unlocked the key to your future.
Thanos was the key to extinction, the Avengers were the pillars of Earth. He was the greatest threat they had ever faced, reminding them of their flaws in one encounter, retelling the fragrance of fear and crushing defeat.
Overcome, beat out by the amethyst alien, the weight of defeat burdened their shoulders, heavy sighs leaving their lips as the gears of their minds were rolling.
Tony sipped his glass of whiskey thoughtfully, his honey eyes lost in the amber colour of the liquid. His face was the quintessence of hidden worry, his fingers twitching around the frame of the glass while his spirit recalled the fight.
Steve was sat next to Bucky and Sam, lost in a daze, trying to comprehend the ultimate threat they had to confront. His blond hair was dishevelled, his face the epitome of confusion while his azure eyes locked with the table. Your gaze swift to Peter Parker. The teenage boy was frowning, his usually smiling face curled up in a frown and you couldn't help but reach your hand to bring back some lights in his hazel eyes. However, he left the room before you had the chance to stop him. Immediately, you got up, following the boy, unaware of the heavy gazes on your back, both belonging to cerulean eyes from a sorcerer and a god.
You followed the young kid disappearing in the corridors, the urge to comfort him overwhelming your body, which was probably coming from your dragon abilities, so you left the living room without a word.
His silhouette stopped when his spider senses tingled at your approach and he turned around, tears on the verge to fall but his sudden demeanour left you dumbfounded. You thought he would come to you and let you take you in his arms but he ran away, overwhelmed by this 'save the planet ' burden.
After all, he was just a teenage boy with extraordinary abilities trying to do what he can to protect his world.
You gave him a head start, guessing he needed some space and after five minutes you asked.
« F.R.I.D.A.Y, can you tell me where Peter is, please? »
The I.A responded quickly.
« He is on the roof, Miss Y/N, but it is impossible to reach it by foot. »
A smirk reached your lips.
« Very well, lead me to the balcony »

Peter was lost in thoughts, his knees against his chest with his suit still on while he tried to assimilate what Thanos was to the world. How a kid like him could do among the Avengers? How the Avengers, not complete, were defeated by one purple guy? This left him with a bitter taste in his mouth.
« Am I enough ? » he whispered to the wind, his sole companion when he webbed his way through the streets of Queens.
« Any wounded warrior shouldn't stay alone, » you declared slowly in your dragon form, your paws clawing at the top of the building for support while you eyed the young spiderman.
Peter's eyes widened at your presence, two pools of honey colour locking with yours while you gave him a toothy smile.
« What matter burdens your heart, Spidey ? » you asked, lowering your head to look at him closely. He got up and came to you, embracing your muzzle and caressing your cheekbones while he stared at your reptilian irises.
« I... I don't know why I feel like this. We faced an alien and we survived but I feel like ...I'm not enough. »
You furrowed your eyebrows at him, snuggling in his waist while a smile tugged at his lips.
« You are so much more than enough, Peter. Don't doubt yourself. If there is one person you should blame, it's me. I wasn't enough. »
Your hoarse voice broke at the end, the feeling of defeat overwhelming you and Peter stroke your dragon face in a more pressing manner, trying to convey his help.
« No, no, don't say that Y/N. You saved Mister Stark, you helped us fight Thanos and you were the one who ended up injured. We are the ones who failed you, Y/N. »
He wrapped his arms around you scaly neck, burying his face into your dragon skin, and he tried to contain his tears of sadness.
You hadn't felt the embrace of a human for ages, the feeling warming up your bleeding heart while you breathed his relaxing spidey scent. The last time someone hugged you was with Loki at a time where his innocence and curiosity were blooming in a harmless way.
Flashes of beloved memories brought you back centuries ago where love flourished between a god and a dragon, the encounter of such legendary creatures awakening a golden future while the dark-haired god carried you in his arms to your shared safe haven. Until one day, this bright peace was shattered by daggers of power and lies. You remembered the day he left you, his silhouette disappearing in the shadows of Asgard while you stayed behind, calling his name again and again like a prayer. He had given you one last glance, his cerulean orbs locking with you for hopeful seconds before detaching his gaze from your crouched form, tears falling down your cheeks like waterfalls.
Your happiness was gone, choosing power over love.
« Loki... » you pondered, your heart aching at your break up. This moment with Peter reminded you of the wonderful moments you spent with the god, reminding you deep down that he has still your heart in his hands, crushed and yet still beating for him.
Were you going to be able to move on or fall for him again?
« You are one of the strongest persons I've ever meet » Parker stated, breaking the veil of memories darkening your eyes and snapping you out of your trance. His words healed your doubts and a small smile enlightened your face.
You both stayed like this for a while, enjoying each other 's presence. His small body pressed against you as you closed your eyes, memorising this simple loving gesture of a human hugging you in your dragon form without fear emanating from his body. He tightened his grip around you as he mumbled apologies, again and again, snuggling closer and you clung to him, not letting go of his embrace.
However, soon a weird sound broke the silence lingering in the air.
At first, you thought it was thunder roaring in the depth of the sky, announcing its arrival but the beating sound grew louder and louder. Peter relutanctly let go of you while you raised your head up to see helicopters and flashlights targetting you.
Peter gulped, hiding under your wings as he didn't have his mask on but he spotted it a bit further on the rooftop. Quickly, he shot a web at it and brought the mask back to him before putting it on and Karen's voice welcomed him back.
« Y/N, what do we do ? » he asked, worry piercing his tone.
You sighed, lowering your head while you climbed completely on the top, exposing your whole body to the world.
You had dreaded this moment for years, the day where the human world would discover about your existence. The day where legends would become reality and you hoped, the human race wouldn't do the same mistake that its ancestors.
You didn't want a witch hunt, the fear of death following you like a shadow, all you wanted was peace.
« Call the Avengers, will you, Spidey? I think it's time for the world who I am. »
Peter's eyes widened while he processed what you said.
« A..are you sure? »
You chuckled, looking at him lovingly.
« I don't really have a choice, do I? My secret would have come out eventually. I want to be the one to decide how. I stayed long enough in the shadows. »
He nodded and spoke to Karen, informing the Avengers of the turn of events.
You looked at the helicopters, cameras and flashlights spotting you and you were scared for a second. You didn't want the world to end in flames again.
However, as you looked at the helicopters, an unexpected voice snapped you out of your thoughts.
« Do not concern yourself with this matter, Midgard changed since then. Put your doubts to rest, love » revealed Loki, who had teleported next to you, his arms crossed against his chest as if it was no big deal.
More fear crawled down your body as anguish anchored your body to the ground. Your claws scratched the floor.
The world may be ready for you, but was it for Loki, the one who attacked the Earth in the first place?
A/N: So what did you think? How do you think the human world would react to the presence of a dragon in their lives?
