"Unless we want the full force of the Roman Empire on our doorstep, I'd be wise to not refuse."

DESPITE MY FAMILY'S SOUR HISTORY WITH POSEIDON, the sea breeze has always calmed my nerves. I took a deep breath as I stared out at the water, wondering what the day would bring.

My thoughts were disrupted, as a sharp knock echoed from the door. Without turning away from the oceanic scenery, I called out. "Eiságo." (Enter)

"Prinkípissa, there is a letter from Rome!" A serving girl, Eleni, said as she entered. (Princess)

This news made me quickly exit the balcony and approach Eleni. I held out my hand for the letter. "Sas efcharistó, boreís na pas." (Thank you, you can go)

"Antío." The young girl simply responded, dipping down into a curtsy and leaving. (Goodbye)

I broke the seal on the scroll and quickly read over the words, as a familiar sensation rung in my mind.

"It's an invitation." I spoke aloud, as my celestial companion made her way to my side. "The emperors have invited me to join in on the festivities of the games that they are holding in honor of General Acacius."

"More than likely a trap." Athena murmured, eyes scanning over the parchment from over my shoulder.

"Unless we want the full force of the Roman Empire at our doorstep, I'd be wise to not refuse." I sighed, knowing how childishly temperamental the twins were. "If I get into a tight spot, can I count on some divine intervention?"

"If you get thrown into the Coliseum, you have my support." The goddess chuckled, making me roll my eyes.

"With my luck I'll need it." I joked, motioning to the parchment. "Especially for the sailing half of the trip."

"Poseidon is still angry about the whole getting stabbed with his own trident incident." Athena admitted with a cheerful grin, most likely imagining the sea god being stabbed by Odysseus with his own trident.

(A/N: I know that didn't happen in the og myth, but I adore EPIC: The musical and I thought that that detail was really cool and I'll be putting more references to the musical in this book so don't tear me to shreds pls)

"You enjoy that story too much." I laugh, preparing to bring the invitation to my father. "Let's tell the king."

Gods help me.
