Underlying Woes (Part 1)

Seven teens in a single household was a bit much. Luckily, this was the first thing she had been aware of when she had offered her place to them to begin with. As for Daniel and Carla returning to find strangers living in their home was the next obstacle. A proper explanation for this would go a long way. Surely the circumstances permit her spur of the moment decision. At least, that is what Savannah kept telling herself.

"Hey, it's near eight o clock, we should probably get started on our training and then patrol afterwards." A voice suddenly rings in, snapping Savannah out of her thoughts. She immediately stands and nods in agreement, "Look, Orion didn't want to make you uncomfortable, it's just that-"

"Don't worry about it. I'm not mad." Savannah reassures.

Troy nods before looking upstairs, "Rangers, time to head out!"

He walked over to the couch to grab his morpher that he had accidentally left behind when helping his friend with her belongings. Savannah heard footsteps approaching. Orion had came back, shooting the redhead a glance before joining the others. She did not flinch one bit, however did return the stare with a look of her own.

"Hey so..." Called Jake, who beat the others down the steps, "Who's in charge?"

"What do you mean?" Troy asked.

"I mean, Savannah-"

"Will watch how you guys move and choose to attack. It'll give me a better idea on where you guys are at." Savannah cut him off to answer.

"Oookaayy..." Jake reacts. He gives the Red Ranger a quick glance and questions, "Um, when did you become a mentor?"

"I'm not one, but I know for a fact that the power that you have is unlike anything prior. You can transform into any past and dimensional Ranger you want, that's a big responsibility. You guys have a lot of potential." Savannah responds, "Which means you need a lot of help."

Jake made a face at her, as if somewhat offended, "Well..."

He goes to join the others on that note. This allowed Savannah to be alone with the team leader, who said, "I appreciate you helping us out."

"Well, you can't rely on those past Rangers too heavily." Savannah retorted.

"Fair point." Troy agreed, "How long have you been training for?"

"Since birth really. It's in my blood." Savannah told him, "It's also why I can knock out seventeen guards in a single second."

Troy's eyebrows rose up, "That's pretty cool...and scary."

"Thanks. It lets me get on the coffee guy who's lazy on his customers to give me exactly what I want in my mocha." Savannah riposted to him, "And why he was fired after I exposed him during his shift when he was dealing with a pregnant lady." She sighed as a mischievous smile appeared, "He shouldn't of had that pepper spray in his pocket."

Troy blinked for a moment in wonder. He geared up to question about that, but Emma's yell of, "Are you guys almost done?!" prevented him from doing so. The two looked outside, with the red ranger answering, "Yep!" and then the two meeting each other's gaze once more.

"Well, at least your girlfriend doesn't badger, that would be really annoying." Savannah says.

"Emma's not my girlfriend." Troy told her.

"Really? You two seem like you had something going on." Savannah noticed.

"She's one of the sweetest people I've ever met, but I'm not into her that way." Troy denies.

"I'm kidding Troy, no need to be flustered. I can help if you are going down that road though." Savannah remarked with a slight smirk.

"Oh so you're willing to play matchmaker now too?" Troy inquired in amusement.

"Eh I'm not a romantic but, any excuse to use my powers to read people's minds is a win win for me." Savannah replied.

"That's invading privacy," Troy answered back. He quickly thought over a part of what she had just said and queries, "...Wait you can do that?"

"Yeah and it's silent, which is why it works. It's not wrong if they don't know." Savannah shrugged and left on that note by exiting her home through the front door.

Troy made a face and shouted, "It's still invading!"

"I could do much worse!" Savannah yelled back.

The red ranger rolled his eyes, yet his smile remained plastered to his face, indicating playfulness. He shook his head and quickly hurried to accompany his teammates.

-(Theme Song Break)-

Most of the fighters sat down on top of barrels and crates while watching two of their peers duel. It happened to be the blue and green ranger at the moment, who were keeping each other on their toes. The only non-ranger of the group looked with a watchful eye, intently staring at every defensive attack they both made. Grunts from the two challengers were heard as they fought.
Jake dodged an oncoming hit and answered with a kick, which was missed. Noah struck him in the stomach. Luckily the green ranger recovered quickly and proceeded to attempt a roundhouse. Noah was affected, although continued to fight. The girls watched them battle it out, sitting side by side. The silver ranger glanced over at the blue-eyed redhead, who returned the stare momentarily before keeping her focus on the fighters. The red ranger gave him a glance afterwards in confusion, prompting Orion to hold back. Troy then kept his attention on his friends.
The two were equally matched and it was difficult to declare a clear cut winner. They had both put up a good fight. Nevertheless,it was the blue ranger who lost in the end. The black/green ranger kneed him in the gut and flipped him over, making the girls and Orion wince. Savannah however only raised an eyebrow and gave Troy a look. He returned it and shrugged. She got up to walk over to the guys and helped Noah up.

"You know you could've won that." Savannah said to him.

Noah was back on his feet at this point as he retorted, "He flipped me onto the ground too quickly."

"While he had your arm, you could've utilized your opposite foot to hoist up your dominant one so you can kick him further away from you, like this." Savannah told him as he eyes traveled towards the green ranger. She gestured, "Come here."

"What?" Jake asked.

"I'll demonstrate." Savannah said.

"On me?" Jake questioned, his voice going a bit high in fear.

"Yes, don't be a wus." Savannah replied.

The goofball stepped forward while Vanni put her arm out. He grabbed it as she said, "Watch." and faced Jake again. He lunged while she performed her trick and was able to knock him back far. Everyone's, excluding Troy because his eyebrows went up instead, mouths had dropped at the distance when his body flew back and he screamed. Jake tumbled into a crate and crashed it. The redhead had her hands on her hips and turned to Noah to say, "See?"

Jake groaned as his best friend retorted in both amazement and astonishment, "Yep I uh...I see your point."

"Uh yeah, can we not do that again? I think something cracked." The green ranger inquired with a little groan.

Noah walked over to help him up while Savannah called, "Alright, Orion, Gia, Emma, step up."

The trio stood up and headed for the middle. Savannah gave them their required space and sat beside the new kid, who whispered to her, "You seem like you've done this before."

"I had to at one point when things were serious. It taught me a lot, so I don't mind giving advice and corrections when I can." Savannah told him while the trio began to combat.

"Military?" Troy questioned.

"No." Savannah answered.

"Wasn't easy was it?" Troy asked.

"Nothing ever is when dealing with war." Savannah replied.

"Can't argue that." Troy agreed. He glanced at his teammates fighting, "I've been doing karate since I was two but, I don't have much experience with this legacy stuff. I had only just moved here when I was picked to be a Ranger. I still l don't know why he chose me."

"He sees something in you. There is a reason, you just haven't figured it out yet." Savannah responded.

"How do you know that?" Troy wondered.

"It's why anyone gets chosen. Whether or not you find out for yourself is when it matters." Savannah says. Troy scoffs at the statement. His disbelief rubbed the redhead in a curious way. Her attention on the trio did not waver, but, it did not stop her from speaking, "That's typical."

"What is?" Troy asked in response.

"You doubt yourself." Savannah told him.

Troy tries to counter this claim, "No I'm not. I just-"

"You said you don't know why he chose you as if you can't believe why he didn't choose someone better, correct?" Savannah quizzed.

"Yes but-"

"Is that not doubting yourself?" Savannah catechized. Troy could not respond to that, therefore allowing her to progress, "It doesn't matter if you're good enough. Every leader born and created didn't have to be 'good enough' to achieve the things that they did. They used what they had and did what they could to win the fight, even if the possibility of failing was high." Savannah then stared into his eyes and finished with, "Underestimating and limiting yourself by believing you're unworthy only sets you back further. They learned that, and so will you."

Her words were swallowed and sinking like anchors into his mind. The gaze between the two heroes had been broken once Savannah resumed to watching the combat. Her comrade did the same. His brain was harping over what had been said to him. He was not sure if he could believe her. The things he had experienced, the battles he and his friends had faced, the next chapter of their lives awaiting them in three weeks had all been mixed into one.
A shadowy figure crept its way around Harwood County. His footsteps were so silent a pin could drop and be heard effortlessly. He blended into the cloudy night with a sly rhythm to him like a fox. His senses peeked at every corner for any sign of a Power Ranger in the vicinity. Kent had been very precise on the details, and his second in command knew what to search for.

"You'd think he would give me coordinates at least." he commented to himself. He pulled out the photo he was given only moments ago and looked at it, a scoff for a response, "Oh how you've grown Savannah." The more he walked, the more voices he heard. He then began to see people outside and instantly made himself disappear.

"Alright! That was uh...that wasn't bad but um, let me show you something. Troy, come here." Savannah directed, putting the red ranger on the spot.

The karate kid raised his eyebrows, looked back, and then pointed to himself. Savannah nods to which Troy responds, "...Will I die?"

"Maybe, get over here and we'll find out." She urged.

Troy sighs and walks over to face her. The two get into a stance, "Ready?"

Savannah nods and the fight begins, with her still giving directions, "You have to study your opponent and search for weakness areas." She dodges the leader's punch and he blocks her kick, but could not escape her hit, "Watch for open areas." Her knee collided with his abdomen, to which the others winced, "Corner them." Her leg strikes his shoulder, stumbling him back. Lengthening for arm out, her sword appears in her hand, "Then you take your weapon and strike." Troy dodged the first two slices, however was affected by the last two and hit the ground, only up by his arms. Savannah performs a spin kick and that finished him off. Her feet returned to the floor, the wind lightly blowing through her hair as she held her sword. Troy was left panting heavily.

Jake whistled, Noah was taken aback, Gia and Orion were in awe, and Emma's mouth was open like a fish. The warrior made her weapon flash away and turned towards the rangers, "Any questions?"

"Have you ever considered fighting professionally?" Troy quizzes from the ground, groaning.

The redhead walks over to him. She crouches down, "You'll be okay. Besides, you lasted far longer then most of my enemies."

"Really?" Troy asks.

"Yeah, it usually takes them less than five minutes to fizzle out. Don't ask how I did it." Savannah replies and turns back to the others, "Okay well we should head home."

"What about patrol?" Orion queries.

"I can do it. You guys need to be up bright and early tomorrow if you're going to look like 'regular teens'." Savannah answers, putting air quotes are the last two words of that sentence.

"Well regular teens sleep in." Jake makes a point.

"Well we can't do that this week, now can we?" Emma rhetorically questions as she stands up to leave.

Her best friend and Noah follow her out while the others hang back a bit. Orion mentions, "Well I don't have school, so I can cover half."

"That's true, but it's fine. Besides it's peaceful this time of night and I prefer to be alone." Savannah retorts before heading in the other direction, weapon and all.

"She's strong." Jake comments, rubbing his side, "I think she broke my kidneys."

"Big whoop, she handled me like a boxing dummy. I might actually be walking on broken feet." Troy sucks his teeth at the present pain.

"Will you be able to come tomorrow?" Jake catechizes in concern.

"I'll be fine by then, but still, she hits hard." Troy replies and they speed up their movement to catch up with their friends. Little did they know that they were being watched the entire time.

"Tomorrow eh? Well, we'll certainly come to crash the party." The shadowy figure remarks evilly and scatters to return to his home for the night.
