Chapter 14: Ancestor
Zelda sat in front of Ordon Spring while softly playing the lullaby her mother played for her when she was younger. She now doesn't have a mother or a father... The thought of her being alone brought a tear from her eye. But she wasn't alone... Even if she has a entire kingdom to save, she knows she has Link to help her.
"Princess?" Zelda looked up and saw Ilia slowly walking over
"Hello Ilia, why don't you have a seat?" Ilia nodded happily before taking a seat next to the gentle smiling princess "how are you, darling?" Ilia blushed at her kindness
"I'm doing great, it's an honor to meet you princess"
"Thank you" Zelda went back to playing her harp
"That's a beautiful harp... It looks the exact same as when I dreamed about it"
"Dreamed?" Ilia nodded shyly before looking down
"You see... I dreamed about a time when we met" Zelda's smile grew "it was here in Ordon... You two came to the village and needed equipment for your journey. You two stayed for Collin's party, since the children were so fond of Link. You were talking to Uli and started singing a really pretty song... It was truly beautiful. Then later, a monster came out of nowhere!" Ilia looked embarrassed to talk about the dream, but continued anyways "Link heroically- more like foolishly went straight up to that monster without having a proper plan. Even if he was successful, he got lucky because of Zelda. He was near to struggle if she didn't hold it down. When he was struggling, you used some kind of light from your hands to keep the thing still. It looked like it drew your energy and fell over. Good thing I caught you" Ilia held her heart "and before you went to sleep... She told me to protect Link..." Zelda looked at the spring "and later when we and Link went to the spring, he asked me to become friends with... A descendant? Then he corrected himself by saying his friend, but I knew the first part was what he really meant. Anyways... The dream felt so real to me that... I couldn't help but keep those promises. I know I sound crazy but-"
"You don't..." Zelda turned to her "I thank you for keeping my promise. It means the world to me" Ilia's eyes widened "what you promised, I meant it when I asked you to protect Link... I might not even know this Link like I knew the other... But he's still Link, I need him to help me to save my kingdom..." She sighed and hugged her knees
"I'm sorry... Did you say we really made that promise? And there was two Links? Wow... That would be a nightmare" Zelda looked at her confused "Link has major anger issues and is really lazy. He has a lot of negative traits in him"
"Really?" Zelda looked interested
"Yeah, but don't let that stop you from knowing he's a good guy. He's my best friend, I treat him like he's my own brother" Zelda smiled and tilted her head "speaking of which, would you like to meet the other villagers? You've been asleep for so long, so..." She nodded and dusted off her skirt
"I would love too"
"And Colin's birthday is today as well, we're going to have a little camp fire and have a big feast!" Zelda held her chin, interested. Going to Colin's birthday party again, seems fun. Poor Colin didn't even have a whole good day because of that monster past Link went to kill and later she fell asleep
"Wonderful! I look forward to it!" Ilia put her hands together excitedly before taking Zelda's hand and rush to the village. So she's going to meet a bunch of villagers who won't even remember her... This should be interesting, and a little sad
Everyone was already getting ready for the feast and the children were running around the place while Colin was with his mother. The kid's still shy with the other kids? Or maybe it's just something else
"Dad!" Ilia shouted towards Bo. Bo looked over before coming over and hug his daughter "dad, I want to introduce you to the girl Link took care of for the pass few days. I also took care of her when he was at work" she stuck her tongue out "don't tell him, he doesn't like anyone sneaking into his house" Zelda giggled and curtsied to Bo
"Hello Mayor, it's nice to meet you. My name is Zelda, but you may call me Sheik. It's another name I went by for a long time" Bo nodded and bowed his head
"Hello Zelda... You know, the name Sheik actually sounds familiar" Zelda's eyes widened a little
"Like deja vu?" Ilia asked
"Yes! Exactly!" He laughed. Zelda held her chin in interest again. So people are getting deja vu about meeting her, interesting. Maybe... Just maybe...
"I guess I have one of those faces, then" she giggled before looking around the village. It still looked the same as when she last saw it "where's Link?"
"He's wrangling up a herd of goats up the ranch" Bo said
"If you don't mind..."
"Not at all, go right ahead! I'm sure Link would be happy to see you once he's done with work!" Ilia smiled. Zelda blushed a little before walking to the area Ilia pointed to. Zelda was becoming anxious. How long must she wait to start helping her kingdom... They are trapped inside the twilight by that... King
Zelda slowed down her walking as soon as she could see a gate closed in her path. She walked towards the rock wall and leaned on it. How long... How long does she have to wait? It wasn't long before she started crying, holding her mouth to hide her sobs
"You don't have to be sad..." Midna's voice said. Zelda shook off her tears and looked over the fence to see Link riding Epona through the wind with a bright smile on his face. She held her heart, smiling at his smile before turning away. He was able to have Epona in this life. Link... She's happy to see him living peacefully in this timeline, she's almost scared to ask him for his aid
She sighed before turning away, back to the village. Many of the villagers were together in a pile talking to each other. That should be a good time to meet everyone again. When she did, they all claimed that she looked familiar in a way, which made her happy somewhat.
"Miss Zelda?" Colin pulled on her skirt shyly. Zelda squat to his height with a smile "have we met before?"
"Well... In a way, I guess we have" she stood back up before petting his head "nice to meet you Colin" he looked at her surprised
"How do you know his name? He didn't tell you" Talo said with sass. She smiled down at him, making him blush a little
"Hm..." She looked over and saw Uli staring at her "Zelda dear, do you... Perhaps own a harp?" Zelda smiled happily before taking it out of her satchel "oh my! How did I know that?!"
"I'm a little hungry, is there anyway I can help out with preparing for the party before it starts?" Uli smiled with everyone else
"Don't you worry dear, you just sit back and relax. Everything is nearly finished. You've been asleep for awhile, don't strain yourself" Zelda sighed before sitting on the same spot she sat on when she was in front of the camp fire before
Ilia and the kids sat around her while talking a whole bunch. Zelda didn't speak a word, but actually enjoyed people's company. She never thought that would happen but... It's all thanks to Past Link. She sighed and covered her eyes
"Zelda?" Ilia called
"I'm fine, I'm sorry"
"Do you need to lay down?"
"No, thank you" she sighed and started strumming the harp softly, getting the kids sleepy and take a nap around her. Rusl walked over to the princess staring at the floor in deep thought
"Princess?" She looked up to see Rusl facing her "what are you doing outside the kingdom?" She stood and bowed her head
"Pardon my intrusion"
"Not at all, I was just curious" she rubbed her arms nervously
"I... I was able to get a time off. I wanted to come here and see Link and Ilia, but I was reckless and came here on my own. I got attacked"
"How are you feeling?"
"Much better, thank you!"
"May I ask? What were those pack of wolves that protected you?" She looked down at her harp
"They are my body guards and protected me since the day I ran from my kingdom. Do not be alarmed by them, if you see them, just know they're only here for my aid" he nodded and bowed his head to her
"Welcome to our village, I'm Rusl. Nice to meet you. I have heard much about you as the runaway princess and comeback princess" she blushed a little
"I hope it's nothing too bad. Nice to meet you as well, I'm Zelda, but I was known as Sheik before I came here!" He held his chin
"Where have I heard that before?"
"It's deja vu, huh?" Colin asked
"Yeah, I think it is" Zelda giggled and looked away to look at the sky. She's too nervous to really enjoy herself. She has to get to work on helping her kingdom very soon... She just doesn't know where to start
"What does the castle think about you being gone?" He asked
"Um..." She turned away "it's okay, I told them I would be back in a few days. I'll go back p-probably tomorrow" she tried not making her voice sound weird
"Okay, well the party planning is almost done. This party can also be our goodbye party. What do you think Colin?"
"I'm fine with that! You're awesome!" Zelda pet his head
"I'm sure Link will come back from work soon" she nodded, hiding her worried frown
"I hope he doesn't stink up the place" Ilia made a face, making the kids laugh. Zelda wasn't even paying attention "Zelda?" Zelda looked at her, coming back from space "is something wrong?" She shook her head before hearing a horse snort. Ilia looked over at the direction of Ordon field, where the goats usually hang around, and saw Link walking over while on Epona. Zelda shook off her frown and went to go follow Ilia running towards Epona. Link jumped off after greeting Ilia and jogged over to Zelda forcing a smile
"Hey, princess. How you feeling?" She closed her eyes
"I've been better..." He frowned
"Is something wrong?" She held her hands close to her chest, shaking a little nervously
"Link... I... I need your help..."
"What is it?"
"What is this?" Link and Zelda looked at Ilia looking at Epona's leg "she's wounded! You were jumping fences again, weren't you!?" She yelled at his face. Zelda stared while Link gulped "how could you be so reckless! Agh! I'm taking her to the spring" she walked away with Epona "let's go, Zelda!" Zelda frowned at Link before following Ilia to Ordon Spring. She didn't know what to say to him. She's too shaky to even say a word yet.
"Honestly" ilia started blabbing while washing Epona in the spring. Zelda sat down and hugged her legs "he gets on my nerves sometimes! That guy cares for no one but himself" Zelda was off in space as Ilia talked smack about Link before noticing Zelda looked distressed "Zelda..?" Zelda flinched and looked at Ilia coming over to sit next to her "are you okay?"
"Y-yeah... I just have a lot on my mind"
"Want to talk about it?" Zelda pulled on her bangs a little before looking at Ilia's worried face before putting on a smile
"Hm... Would you like to hear a story? It's based on a true legend, though forgotten" ilia looked surprised before nodding happily
"Sure!" Zelda started telling the story of past Link's forgotten journey. It brought her to tears to think about him, but what could she do..? Future Link is here and is the one she's meant to know if it were possible to actually care about him if Past Link never helped her find her light.
After telling the story, she looked at Ilia staring at the spring. Maybe she doesn't believe her... No matter what, even if no one believes in Link's great journey, at least they'll know of what he did
"So... The Links we know are completely different!" Zelda looked at her surprised. She believes her? "Through time I mean, like a descendant and ancestor"
"Y-yes... That's exactly it" wow, she really got it
"And... So time changed when he left? That's why you knew me and Link, because you already went through a time when the past Link came and went back, resetting everything so my Link can be born here" Zelda was absolutely dumbfounded
"Wow... You're amazing, Ilia" Ilia giggled with a blush and let out a stretch
"I feel better about the promise. At first, I thought I was crazy about keeping a promise I made in a dream, but now that I knew it was made, it makes me happy" she held Zelda's hands "it makes me happy that you came back, you were a wonderful girl when we met... Your eyes weren't as bright as they are now though, but thanks for coming back!" Zelda smiled and squeezed on her hands
"I didn't think I could make a friend after Link left..."
"Well now we're friends! Is that alright?" Zelda smiled happily before noticing a presents coming towards them. She turned to the exit and saw Link staring at them. D-did he hear..?
"Link..." She stood up and faced him. He had a solid look on his face "I'm guessing you heard everything?" He turned away "I'm sorry you had to hear it this way"
"So... You knew me because my ancestor came here..?" She sighed and nodded. She didn't tell Ilia about the journey her and Past Link had, so maybe it's best not to talk about it now
"Yes"
"I-I see..." His hair was shading his eyes
"I don't mean to scare you... And.." She looked down. Maybe after hearing that story, he doesn't want anything to do with her, probably because he might think she's comparing him and Past Link. She's not really... But what does he think..? "I'm sorry, I understand that you're shocked"
"Hell yeah I'm shocked!" He snapped with a glare, shocking her "I-I don't get it! What am I suppose to think about my ancestor coming here!? Why was he even here?! Was I even around?!"
"No" she put on a solid expression
"Is he better than I am?!" Her eyes widened in shock as his cheeks grew red. He's angry..? Ilia was right when she said he has anger issues but...
"I don't see what you mean"
"Did he make you happier..?" He frowned. Something stung in her heart. She gasped in pain before holding her chest. W-what was that..?
"How dare he talk to you that way?" Midna's voice asked "this Link is obviously different, don't let him walk all over you! Let me take your shine of kindness so he knows who's boss!" M-Midna! She could feel the insults and impolite behavior coming back to her. Though it felt different due to having her Triforce of wisdom
"Sorry..." Her eyes went a little dull before looking back at him with a look of disapproval on her face "what did you say to me?" He flinched before glaring again
"If you like that guy better than me than why are you wasting your time here? I'm not like him! I'm not a hero! You call me hero because of him! I'm not him! I hate it when people compare me to other people!" Zelda held her chin high before walking up to him, noticing he was shaking. She grabbed his chin, shocking him
"I am not comparing you to him, boy" she snarled, but in a little grace, shocking him again" I came here hoping you can help me"
"W-what do you expect me to do?" She released his chin roughly and crossed her arms
"I was going to ask you to help me... My kingdom is under attacked and I'm going to be killed if I go back" his eyes widened "straight to the point, how was that?" She snorted. Before she could say anything else, they all heard stomping. Huh? It wasn't till a few seconds later, a large boar ridden by two creatures with bow and arrows came marching. The three friends took a step back in shock. Oh no... They were aiming at Ilia and Zelda
"Run!" Link shouted. Ilia was pulling on Zelda's arm to follow, but she wouldn't go with her. She's not running!
"You go!" Zelda shouted at her and strummed on her harp towards the creatures. They cried in pain and quickly aim at Ilia. She gasped and fell forward "No! Ilia!" Tears ran out Zelda's eyes
"Ilia!" Link shouted. He looked her way right when the archers took aim at Zelda. He ran towards her with his arm out to reach for her. Everything was going in slow motion. Tears were running both their eyes like rain
"Link!" Zelda cried, staring at the archers hammer hit him on the back of his head, passing him out "NOO!" She cried loudly. She turned to look at... Colin on one of the board. Why is he there!? The archers took Ilia's wrist and Link's body and put them on the boar they were riding "no! Put them down!" She glared and prepared to fight, but the spring sprung a bright light, causing her to go blind and teleport her to the middle of Ordon field. No...
"Link! Ilia! Colin!" She shouted. She has to go after those monsters!
"Don't worry Zelda..." Midna's voice spoke "I'll go with Link and take him to where you are" no... Link hates her... He'll never agree to help her now. This Link glared at her and did show hatred, but she couldn't tell if he felt anything while doing it besides anger.
Midna's voice never returned. She said she was going to look for him and take him back to her. Will he even help her at all..? She dropped to her knees and cried "Everyone... I'm so sorry..."
