Chapter 5: Curiousity
As you can see from the title of this chapter and picture, you know who's next! I really enjoyed writing for Curiosity but sadly I cannot continue for other chapters. Probably 😉 but really, I think you'll like curiosity. Link's other pieces will have more backgrounds more than others. Hope you enjoy!
I held Link's hand to keep him from getting lost. If we get lost, we're going to be in real trouble "how do you know where we're going?" Navi asked nervously. To be honest... I don't know anymore
This forest was filled with thick trees, I can barely see the pathways! This is nothing like the one in the game! I think we're lost now! But I don't want to tell that to my friends. There's still hope. I'm still trying to follow Saria's song she's playing from a far. Keep playing Saria... I need you right now
The song was getting louder, which was a good sign! The farther we went, the stronger the aura was getting. There were two paths to choose from. One path was playing both of her songs! Which one to pick!?
"Link... I'm counting on you, which one do we pick?" I asked him. He stared at me before looking ahead at the path that sounded like a flute more than a ocarina. I was so nervous that I almost couldn't tell the difference. Nodding when he pointed to the path that sounded like the flute playing, I pulled on him to run forward, but it was a wide dead end. a dead end where a skullkid with blond hair was dancing on a tall tree stump, playing his flute. I gasped, cupping my mouth. This... Is a missing piece!
The kid stopped playing when seeing me and smiled. It was more of a smirk really. His eyes glowed a bright green color... He gave a snort before jumping in front of us like he was standing on air
"What do we have here? What do we have here?" He asked curiously. Is this Link's curiosity? "A Kokiri and a blue haired Kokiri? Haha! I never seen anything like it!"
"You're a missing piece of Link's body..." He stared at me blankly before chuckling and jump back to the stump. I jumped over to another shorter stump to face him. He jumped around like a Skullkid, playing his flute
"Yeah? So what?" He crossed his arms
"So what? You have to return to his body! That's what!" He smacked his tongue and completely ignored me, replaying his flute again. I glared annoyed. I can tell this is going to be a stubborn one
"Say" he looked back at me "I always wondered... Where did you exactly come from? And why should I be following you anyways?" My eyes widened "I mean, what's so special about you? You know things, I admit that, but why you?" I bit my lip
"I can ask myself the same question..." I mumbled "but I'm not gonna get a answer myself!" he held his chin, interested before jumping right up at my face, surprising me
"Go away, I have no interest in leaving these woods. It's so much fun here!" He backed away, crossing his arms "I can play anywhere I want and don't have to take responsibilities that some tree wants me to take. I especially don't want to be following some girl who suddenly showed up in my life" I was hurt by his words... But I ignored it and took a deep breath
"You're honest" he shrugged and looked at Link
"What's so special about staying in one place?"
"What's so special? There's a lot to explore here! It's fun!" So he doesn't want to leave because he thinks there's more to see in these woods
"You know we're traveling outside these woods, don't you?" He stopped dancing and looked at me, focusing his glowing green eyes at me
"Outside... These woods? You mean the village?" I shook my head
"No! A whole wide world! Bigger than these woods! We're going to see it all! Don't you want to see more?" He started thinking "there's a lot more to see! I know you'll be curious to see it all!"
"Hm... Maybe you're right, but I'm not going to follow you so easily" I frowned "if you can memorize this song I'm randomly going to make, I'll go with you" I gulped nervously. This piece is really something... He's awfully honest. Huh, I thought I was the awfully honest one.
I knew what game he was trying to make. It was a mini game that would upgrade the slingshot storage "and I'll even give you this!" He waved around a little bag, which I'm sure was too hold the seeds I use with the sling shot, like I mention before. It would be nice to have a small bag instead of having to look around my own bag for the scattering nuts all over the place
"Fine" I was always bad at this game... It's hard memorizing notes I can't pick up that easily. It was hard enough memorizing the original ocarina songs! I'm not good at music all that much. If I fail, will he run away and not come back to Link?
Link held my shoulder, as if he felt how I was feeling about playing this game "Link..?" He nodded and took out his own Ocarina to play the game with himself...
He didn't have a hard time memorizing Curiosity's song like I did when I played this mini game in the game. He won the game, making Curiosity smirk in amusement
"Interesting... But I didn't expect anything else from my own self. You won this time, but I still want to win against you, blue eyes" he giggled, holding his stomach. I flinched as he floated over to turn into a light to become a golden piece. Blue eyes..? Doesn't he mean blue hair? I don't have blue eyes, I have brown eyes, right?
"Here Link" I gave Link his heart piece "let's go see Saria now" he nodded quickly, going back to the path Saria should be in. We made it to the Sacred Meadow and finally in front of the the forest temple, where Saria was sitting on a short tree stump playing her song on her ocarina. How many of them does she have if she gave Link one?
"Saria!" I smiled. Saria looked up at us and smiled
"You all... I have been waiting for you!" She stood up "this is the Sacred Forest Meadow. It's my secret place, but you already knew that..." She held her heart, running up to us. She looked at Link before cupping her mouth surprised "oh Link! Look at you!" She held his cheeks "you have shine in your eyes! I never thought I'd see the day!" She chuckled happily "oh Lina! You did this, didn't you!?" I blushed
"Well... There's still more things for me to do for Link..."
"Oh Lina... I'm so happy you showed up here... You know the song that I use to talk to the spirits of the forest. You are quite unique. Bless you" I blushed more at her compliments "I hope you have taught Link this special song! When you play it, you can talk to me anytime!" She put her ocarina away to hold my hands
"I have... I made sure he learn it on our way to Hyrule castle" she nodded, then started thinking "what's wrong?"
"Lately... A few things have been bothering me"
"Oh?"
"Fado is acting different, and for as long as I can remember, a Skullkid with blond hair who roams these woods started becoming more active since you've came" my eyes widened
"Tell me more about these things. Start with Fado" she nodded
"Okay... Fado is my friend... But the thing about her is that I have the feeling she knows things I can't understand. For a long time, before your arrival, she's been in a kind of mood. She seems worried, and when seeing you when I brought you into the village, her eyes widened in shock. She looked like she wanted to do everything in her power to serve you"
"What? Are you sure? That seems too extreme"
"Maybe.." She looked down "I don't know, I just don't understand her. She seems different now. Did you speak with her?"
"I did, earlier before we came to find you"
"Did she seem different?" I nodded. Even Saria notice Fado was acting different... "It's probably nothing. She'll return to her usual self soon, I know it" she put on a smile "let me tell you about the blond Skullkid. You do know what a Skullkid is, do you?" I nodded "well, there said to be a Skullkid with a face! It's weird, since Skullkids loose their faces and everything. This Skullkid has glowing green eyes and is pretty mischievous. Rumors had it that he likes luring children into the woods to turn them into Skullkids by building up their curiosity" I flinched. The pieces can control people..?
"When I saw you, I thought you were one of them. But you weren't. Only a few Kokiris seen him and say he actually looks like a Kokiri. Since no one has seen his face, there's no telling what that thing really is... Until earlier when I saw him" she looked at Link "he looked just like Link... I don't know what it meant... But I was sure you would"
"Me?" She nodded "Saria..." I sighed "as you know... Link is a pretty emotionless guy, and that's exactly why I'm here" I put my hands behind me "I am here to put him back together... And return his heart back to him" her eyes widened
"Who... Are you?" I suddenly saw Fado's face in my vision. Forcing a smile, I took her hand
"I'm just a blue haired maiden is all" I giggled "it's getting late... We're going to stay the night if that's alright" she nodded
"Of course! Let's get back to the village. Are you all hungry? I'll get Fado to cook us something! She's a great cook!"
"S-sure..." Seeing Fado this time wasn't as awkward as it was earlier. We left her tree house and went back to Link's house like what she told me earlier never happened. Saria was even confused, but didn't say anything of it.
It was like that even in the morning. It was time for us to leave and she seemed all normal, until I started walking away. Tears started running down her cheeks when I head for the exit. When I stopped, she pretended she wasn't crying and waved to me happily like the other Kokiris did. Fado...
Lon Lon ranch was so big that it could fit the entire market! The field was so large it was refreshing "this place... Is the place where Malon lives?" Link asked. It feels good to have him ask me questions like a normal human being
"Yes, it is! She's going to introduce us to a horse. You do remember that song I taught you before, right? Epona's song?" He took out his ocarina and nodded
"Yeah... But who's Epona?" He didn't care to ask when I taught him the song. Malon was in the middle of the ranch with a brown horse with white mane. It's the one and only
"Malon!" I waved. Link waved with me
"Huh? Oh!" She put her hands together happily "it's you two! Thank you for the other day! My dad came running after you woke him up! I'm glad that egg I gave you became useful!" She laughed "that's the Cucco you hatched by the way" she pointed at the other side of the ranch, where her dad was sleeping on the grass surrounded by Cuccos laying on him "oh! That lazy bum!" She groaned annoyed, then smiled at me
"I'm so glad you two came to visit like you promised! I wanted to introduce you to this horse. It's so small, but it's not a baby anymore! This is Epona" Link looked like he wanted to touch her, but it ran from him
"Awe... It seems like Epona is afraid of you, fairy boy" Malon frowned. Link stared at Epona with longing in his eyes
"Why..?" I held his shoulder, showing him my pink ocarina. He got the hint and started playing the song I wanted him to play. Navi looked at me surprise for knowing how to attract the horse to Link. Epona wouldn't stop bugging him now. He pet her mane softly. I could see the look in his eyes, knowing he wanted to feel something, but couldn't. Don't worry Link... I'll help you.
"Wow! You know my mother's song! And it got Epona to come to fairy boy! You're amazing Lina!" I blushed at Malon "why don't you stay for the night? It's still day time, but we can have fun riding the horses! We're small enough to ride the horses so how about it?" I gasped. If we get the opportunity to ride horses as children instead of having to go into the 7 year future just to ride it, that'll be awesome! Link got to do it in Majora's mask, so why not?
"But Lina..." Navi frowned. She looked worried about taking too long to go get the Goron's Ruby... I'm in no rush like I said
"Navi..." I sighed "trust me... It's going to be better if we take our time"
"It is..?" I nodded
"Yes" Malon looked confused as Link did. I shook my head and we went off to ride some horses together. Link and Malon were a natural. I actually stood back under the shade.
"What a trip" I pouted. I stared at my friends before sighing and looked at the grass "... Being here is a dream come true, but I'm scared I might screw something up..." I leaned against the fence "I was bad at sports... I sucked at school but manage to freaking graduate" I nervously laughed "all these things happen but it was never real... I learned in 19 years and here I'm 10 years old. The sacred realm had me asleep for this long and I just don't understand why it's me that have to be his guide... There's someone that can be more capable then me..." I sat on the grass, hugging my knees and began to cry
"I want to be by his side, I really do. I always wanted to be with him... He's so cool and awesome. I was honored to be chosen to be his guide, but why me..? I'm pathetic... I'm surprise I could make it this long without getting lazy. It's because I had Link to think about. He's my motivation... But I'm still pathetic. I'm so stupid... I'm so sorry" I don't know why I'm feeling this way all of a sudden. I flinched when I felt the presents of a missing piece.
Turning around, I saw a ball of light leaving my side before showing itself as a glowing figure. He was tall like a adult... He was like a shadow made of orange light. His back was turned towards me before turning over his shoulder to look at me. My eyes widened when seeing dull eyes filled with tears, running down his cheeks. Is that..? It has to be! He slowly started fating into nothing. His piece was here... But as a adult. That means I can't get to it until we become adults later...
"Lina?" I flinched and saw Link kneeling in front of me
"L-Link!" He wiped one of my tears away
"You're crying..?" I wiped them myself
"It's nothing! I'm okay!"
"You're not... I heard what you said when you sat down" my eyes widened "what are you feeling..? I want to understand... I want... To help" I sad smiled before leaning forward to hug him. He only stood there like he didn't know what to do
"Soon... Okay?" He nodded "hug me back" he took his time to wrap his arms around me a bit awkwardly "how does it feel?"
"I don't know... Does this make you feel better?" I nodded
"Yes... Thank you for caring..."
"Care..." I nodded, petting his head
"You'll understand soon... It'll just take time" Time... In the future, that's when I get to find more of his pieces that won't show themselves to me like the one I just saw would. I wonder which emotion it was... Sorrow? Regret? Loneliness? when I suddenly started feeling sad it must have been because it was right next to me. I can't believe his pieces can control other people besides him. This would be easier if I knew which pieces he had missing and how to deal with them if anything ever goes wrong. Maybe that stupid owl knows, or a Great fairy perhaps? Better find one in death mountain soon
"Lina?" Malon crawled over to me as we were in her room ready to go to sleep for the night "is there something wrong? I saw what happened earlier... Are you okay? Is there something I can help with?" I smiled, lifting my blanket over my shoulders
"No, I'm fine... I just been thinking about my life" she shared her blanket with me. Link was on his stomach, watching us. Our heads were facing in a circle, so we can all see each other
"Oh? I've been wondering about that. Tell me. Fairy boy came from the forest, but I know nothing about you! Do tell" I chuckled at her curiosity. She's so cool...
"Well... I don't know. I've been in... A coma since I was like... 5? I don't remember my family... I don't know where I came from" I looked up at the ceiling "I didn't grow up the way I wanted... I'm not smart and I suck at many things-"
"Lina! Don't say that!" Navi yelled, surprising me "you are very smart! You know a lot about what's going to happen and you know how to take care of Link! You have a destiny and you know how to do it! You might been in a coma for half your life, but it doesn't mean you're any different from us! You're special... We might not be as special as you, but you are a great girl..." I stared at her from under Link's hat before Malon spoke
"She's right... You are very smart if you only lived for 5 years and been asleep for the rest. It's surprising to know how smart you are like that. You're beautiful and wonderful. I'm so happy to have a friend like you!" Link nodded
"You're my guide... I'm going to protect you, Lina..." My jaw dropped before tears fell from my cheeks. I smiled happily towards them
"I never had friends before... Thank you all..." I closed my eyes "I promise to try my best and protect Hyrule..."
"What?" Malon asked. I smiled, letting the darkness drift into my sleep
"I'll be your guide Link... You can count on me. Thank you for staying with me" and with that, sleep came over my mind for the night
