Chapter 4: Fear

I wish I had a good stylist, but the one I used to draw this Link was all ripped and I tried 😞 I'm not the best artist but I hope you like the picture and chapter!

We got thrown out because Link sneezed. Causing us to go back to Malon... She caught us in a struck of luck because she said she forgot to give us the one thing that can get her dad to wake up. Huh... I forgot about that. This egg was strangely big... Almost the size of my head

"That thing is big..." Navi said

"I know... But right now is that we have to sneak pass these guards again to find Princess Zelda!"

"do you know where she is?"

"Of course I do"

"You're so cool..." She looked at me with admiration. Heh... She's so adorable. Passing the guards was easier than before when Link was quiet. These guards are terrible at their jobs! Or maybe those helmets on their heads just blinds them from seeing two children in bright colored clothing running pass them. Idiots

Hyrule Castle was unbelievably huge! I'm sure it's as big as it was in twilight princess! But luckily finding her was a task to do around the building. There were more guards than what the game showed off. It was hard, so I decided to distract them by using my slingshot to make noise somewhere else. It became night time in a blink of an eye. Goodness... How time effects this world so quickly.

Resting that night under a hole, the next morning passed by, causing the weird egg that Malon gave me to hatch... A cucco! Waking up Malon's dad, he left to go to his waiting daughter. It's about time... Before we knew it, we were in front of Princess Zelda in the court yard, staring into a window.

Link and I looked at each other "that's the princess Link... The princess of destiny..." I looked back at the princess just now noticing us. She turned completely, surprised

"W-who are you? How did you get pass the guards?" She was really pretty up close. I took a deep breath to calm my nerves

"They're not very good at their job..." She giggled at my honestly "H-hi... I'm Lina, and this is my friend Link"

"You two have similar names" she put her hands together "I am Zelda, Princess of Hyrule" she stared at both of us for a moment, then saw Navi before putting her hands together against her chin in amazement

"A fairy..." She gasped "are you from the forest?!" She asked Link

"Yes..." She looked me

"And your hair... The blue maiden! I assume?" I guess that's my nickname to those who don't know my name, like Navi called me when we first met

"Y-yes!" I stuttered nervously. A real life princess... This is amazing "and to prove it, we have the spiritual stone of the forest!" I saved her from asking the question if we had it. I showed her the stone on Link's behalf, making her jump for joy. She's too adorable

"Wow! It's like you've read my mind!" She sat on the steps. I sat next to her while Link remained on his spot "I had a dream... In the dream, dark storm clouds were billowing over the land of Hyrule. But suddenly, a ray of light shot out of the forest, parted the clouds, and lit up the ground... The light turned into a figure holding a green and shining stone, followed by a fairy and a maiden with blue hair..." Wha..? She smiled at Link "I knew this was a prophecy that someone would come from the forest. Yes, I thought you might be the one..." She looked at me before closing her eyes "and the blue hair maiden... I feel has you already know what I'm going to say about the secret of the secret realm that has been passed down by the royal family of Hyrule"

"H-how would you know..?" I don't look like someone who may know things, do I?

"Something about you... In the dream, you seemed like a bright light next to the one who holds the shining stone... Your body contains bright light, I feel it" she held my hands "let me tell you the story I want to share with you" she shared the story about the sacred realm and the temple of time, where the realm is sealed by the door of time.

Through out her talking, I feel anxiety filling up. I know how much she wants to protect Hyrule from Ganondorf, a man who we could see through the window, but her plan is too risky... It'll be best to keep the spiritual stones away from the temple of time and keep the door of time closed. She's just a child, I can't tell her the risk she's creating, but in order to keep time in balance, I have to stay quiet... It's the only way I can gather Link's pieces of the Triforce

Wanting us to gather the other spiritual stones to obtain the Triforce and defeat Ganondorf is out of the question. Keep him away from the sacred realm and nothing else will happen. He might have dark power, but that Triforce of power will give him more than what he has now. There's nothing we can do now...

"Thank you... You two..." Zelda handed me a letter with her autograph on it "this should be useful to you" I sadly took the letter "Miss Lina?" I put a smile

"Don't worry... We're going to protect Hyrule together!" She clapped happily before looking at my shirt

"Strange..." Huh? "You're shirt... There's the piece of the Triforce, there is no missing piece... Why do you have that on your shirt?" Strange question to ask, since Link's main shield has one on the bottom "it makes me wonder who you really are... I feel a strong light within you. please... Return safely. I will be waiting here when you return" no... I know you won't. By the time we're finished collecting the other stones, she'll be forced to leave to get away from Ganondorf

Leaving Zelda, we ran into Impa, a Sheikah. She taught me and Link the melody passed down by the Royal family. Link took awhile to pick up on it, but I already had it down to teach him later. This is Zelda's Lullaby

The song was truly beautiful. It was time for all of us to leave and start our journey. Impa escorted us out the castle, but I wasn't done with the market yet. It's that aura that's getting to me...

Impa showed us death mountain, telling us about the spiritual stone and so on. She disappeared from a flash, leaving us behind "wow... This is so much things to take in" Navi sighed. I sad smiled before looking around the Market "we should start going towards death mountain, or Kakariko first" I ignored her commands

"Sorry... But I have something I have to look for..."

"What is it?" I looked at Link staring at the moon rising up. There's another piece around here, I can feel it. I'm not sure how I can feel it, perhaps it's that light Zelda was talking about, but I can't think about that right now... I have to find that piece. I wonder which it'll be this time

There were a few things I could do in the market at night time, so Link and I took a few task for some extra money to make searching easier, since we're running errands at the dangerous dark alleys as children...

From afar, I could see a small figure sitting in the darkness near a street light, petting the dog we were suppose to find for some lady who doesn't know how to take care of her things.

"Another piece" I sighed, feeling accomplished, before stupidly taking a step forward. The small figure jumped at my presents and ran off through the alley "no! Wait! I'm not going to hurt you!" I looked at Link "Link! We have to go after him!"

"Why? How do you know it's a him?" Navi asked. Again, I ignored her again and ran after the figure. I was lucky to catch up to him still running. He was running with a large cloak on with a large hood. His body was small like Link's so he can't run as fast. Luckily for me, I was always a fast runner when I was younger in the life I thought was real

"Please! Wait!" He suddenly tripped to the ground. I gasped and rushed to his side. Touching his arm, he snatched it away when shaking like he was in a snow storm. My jaw dropped when seeing his glowing yellow eyes staring at me terrified "L-Link..?" This can't be... His fear?

"Please, don't hurt me" he cried behind his cover covering his mouth. I don't understand... Why is fear here in the first place if he held the Triforce of courage..?

"Link..." I tried taking his arm again, but he slapped my hand away and ran off. I sat there, stunned. Why..? I don't understand... Why does he need fear? He doesn't need it! So why is it a part of his broken heart?!

I'm starting to think I should abandon this piece of the Triforce for now... Will that really be the best idea..? I heard footsteps behind me. Looking up, I saw Link walking up to me blankly. He needs all his emotions... Even the ones that no human's ever want to experience. You can't be human if you don't feel a certain emotion deep within your heart. I have to go look for him...

The night was passing by and I haven't found Fear yet... Link and Navi were following me the whole time, even if I told them to wait for me by a bench of something

"It's okay, we'll stay with you to look" Navi smiled. I stopped walking and looked at her

"Navi... Is fear necessary for everyone?" She looked confused "if you can get the chance to get rid of your fear, would you do it? Is it even important?"

"That's an odd question..." She started thinking "well... It does drive us to do things"

"What do you mean?"

"There's a thing called facing your fear... When facing your fear, you become stronger. Without the experience of knowing weakness before power, you won't grow to overcome that optical you've worked so hard to achieve. Without fear, you can't experience much purpose" I was shocked at her words before nodding

"You are smarter than I thought... For someone so small, you have a lot of knowledge you have there" she giggled "but I agree... The sense of purpose... Without fear, you can't drive yourself to do this task you're setting your mind to... Fear might slow you down, but if you want to protect someone, you can overcome it and become stronger" I smiled. A footstep came towards me.

Turning to the side, I saw Fear's glowing yellow eyes staring at me shyly "Fear..." He looked down

"I don't like being scared all the time... Is it really possible to become someone who is worth being saved?" I smiled "I want to protect... I want to have a purpose" I offered my hand

"Yes... Become one with yourself and you'll certainly become worth something" he removed his cover and smiled before taking my hand, turning into light and become a golden piece of the Triforce... This is 3 out of 12 now

Navi floated to my hand to see what I was holding "a gold piece? What's this?" I smiled, holding it to my heart

"This... Is the heart of a hero" she flinched "it is my duty... To put back together this boy so he can fulfill his destiny" she softly nodded, floating back to Link still behind me. I handed him his piece. Reaching for it slowly, the piece become a light and became one with him again. He held his heart, closing his eyes before snapping them open and look at his surroundings quickly

"Link?" He grabbed my hand and ran me away from this dark ally, followed by the dog we were looking for. We made it back returned the lady's dog and got a good reward for it. Giving us money, she offered us to stay at her place for the night, so Link and I shared a bed together...

Being in the same bed as Link... I mean we're kids and everything, but this is still mind blowing. I sat next to him while he laid there, staring at the ceiling

"Link?" He didn't look at me "how do you feel now?" He took a moment before turning to look at me

"It's... Dangerous for us to be there..." There? "Don't leave my sight, I'm... Scared something might happen to you" my heart pounded out my chest. I... Can't believe what he just said. This is the first time he actually confess something like this to me. I smiled and nodded, laying next to him. He held me close to his body in a hug

"Link..?"

"You'll be safe like this" I smiled again, resting my head on his chest. He feels more warmer than before... I didn't think he would need something like fear, but that gave him the ability to care about what might happen to me. I couldn't be happier right now

We hitched a ride from a wagon that was leaving the market to Kakariko Village, so our trip there is going to be faster than we hoped it would be. Hopefully we can get a ride from someone to get to our next location later. Right now... Now that we're here in front of Kakariko at night, it would be the best time to go see Saria to let her know how Link's been growing. Good thing Kokiri Forest and Kakariko are pretty close

"Where are you going? Aren't we suppose to go find the other spiritual stones?" Navi nagged. I rolled my eyes annoyed before looking at her. She might be my friend, but she is pretty annoying. Yes Navi, I know this! I'm in no rush to put Hyrule to the hands of evil!

"We're going to see Saria" Link blinked a few times. He seemed confused, but I took his hand anyways "I want to show her how much you've grown! Besides, there are a few things I want to do over at the lost woods"

"Lost woods? But Lina! You can get lost really easily and become a skulls kid!" Navi gasped. I walked on ahead

"Don't worry about me... I got the path memorized. Besides... You can guide us through it, can you?" the night fell quickly. It was time for us to run for our lives to escape the Stalkids trying to attack us, or chasing us. Running in exhaustion, we finally made it back to Kokiri Forest at night. It seems really scary at this time

"Are we really going to the lost woods..? The great Deku tree said Link isn't allowed there" I winked proudly

"Don't worry! The lost woods is one of my favorite spots!"

"Huh?" I can't tell her that I know Hyrule more than anyone here. I might have forgotten a few little things, but they're no big deal! It's the time of the game where we come back to visit Saria pass the Sacred Meadow in front of the forest temple

"Lina? Link?" I turned around before we could get to the entrance of the lost woods to see Fado facing us "you're... Back! And you're not dead! We were all for sure you were going to die as soon as you leave the forest. Especially you Link... You're a Kokiri after all, but it seems that since you survived" she smiled "I knew you were different, but I didn't want to say anything" what she was saying took me by surprise. I had heard rumors that in the games, Fado was suppose to have a deeper background than Saria, but it never appeared in the game

"Fado..." She softly dropped her smile to frown, taking a step back away from me "there's something you want to tell us... I can feel it" she shook her head

"No... I wanted to tell you something" she looked nervous "but I can't get myself to say anything..."

"It's okay, you can tell me!" I tired getting closer, but she just backed away from me

"Blue maiden..." I froze as her voice became an echo "I know who you are... I know where you came for"

"Fado?" Her fairy wasn't even around. Something is going on "what do you mean you know where I came from?"

"You... You were asleep for a long time to come back to become someone special. I know who you are... There are a few people who know of you. I am one of you" she turned her back "Listen well to my words" she looked over her shoulders to look at me "it's not a coincidence that you have that gold tread on your shirt in the shape of what it is ..." I looked at my shirt confused before seeing her walk away

"Wait! Fado!" She ignored me, walking into her home. I held my chest, frowning at her leave. Fado... What was all that all the sudden?

"Come on... Let's go find Saria" trying to pretend that never happened, we entered the Lost woods, where I felt the aura of another piece of the Triforce
