Chapter One

“Sara Almyra! Get up!” Sara heard her mother yell from down the hall and begrudgingly rolled out of bed. “I'm coming, jeez….” she grumbled and got ready for school. Sara knew her mom had left for work already, that tends to be the routine. She sighed and grabbed an apple before heading to school, her mom and doctor would lecture her if she didn’t eat. Sara got on her bike and started on her way to school. While on her way she spotted her best friend Jayla and slowed down. “Jayla!”She called out and stopped next to her friend getting off her bike. “Hey Sara, good to see you are actually gonna be on time” Jayla laughed. “Hey!” Sara grumbled and crossed her arms pretending to be offended. The two continued on their way to their school.

As the bell rang for the start of fourth period, Mx.Monet walked into the class. “Alright children, let's start where we left off yesterday. Can anyone tell me about the chimera’s?” Mx.Monet was the teacher for the class about the unknowns. They’re Sara’s favorite teacher and this is her favorite class. In fact even if Mx.Monet wasn’t the teacher for this class it would still be her favorite. Sara loves to talk about the unknowns, so she raised her hand. “Yes, Ms.Sterling?” Mx.Monet asked. “The Χιμαιρα is considered a monstrous fire-breathing hybrid creature, composed of different animal parts. It is usually depicted as a lion, with the head of a goat protruding from its back, and a tail that ends with a snake's head.” She answered happily, then continued ignoring the snickering and the whispers of snide remarks. “Most who encounter the chimera are killed and those that survived are badly burned and die within a couple months for unknown reasons.”

“That is correct, well done Ms.Sterling.” Mx.Monet praised. “Thank you.” Sara was proud of herself, Mx.Monet continued talking. Sara was paying attention perfectly until her vision blurred and she saw something, a dragon one she didn’t recognize. It was almost pitch black, it looked as if part of its body was made of a thick black smoke. It was calling for her, for help. It was in pain. It was dying. She could feel the dragon’s pain, fear,  anger and it’s loneliness.

While Sara was trapped in her vision, hallucination whatever you want to call it. Her body toppled to the ground, she collapsed again. “Sara!” Jayla managed to catch Sara’s head before it hit the ground. “Mx.Monet , Help! She collapsed!” Mx.Monet rushed over telling one of the other kids to go get the nurse immediately.

The next thing Sara knew was she was waking up in a hospital bed, it had happened far too many times for her not to immediately recognize the place she spent half her childhood at. She heard the almost silent sobs of her mother’s crying next to her and looked over. “Mom? Why are you crying?” Sara asked confused, grabbing her mom’s hand. “Sara! Thank God, You're Okay! I was so worried!” Sara was pulled into a tight hug. “Mom… I-I can’t breathe….”  Her mother quickly let go. “Oh, oh I'm so sorry dear.. It’s just that you've been out for two days and I was worried you weren’t gonna wake up….” Her mother sobbed. “Two Days!” Sara yelled alarmed. “I'll go get the doctor, he needs to know you’re awake.”

Sara watched as her mother left, before getting sucked into her own thoughts. Two days? It couldn’t have been that long, it wasn’t that long of a vision. The vision. That poor dragon. It was calling for her. What kind of dragon was it again? Maybe a fire dragon? She had to know. There’s only five main types right. Fire, Water, Earth, Air and Light, but that dragon matched none. Suddenly a legend came to Sara. The legend of the final dragon, one that was pitch black. It had to be. Sara’s mind raced. She didn’t even realize that the doctor and her mother were trying to talk to her.

“Sara Almyra Sterling! Answer Me!!” Sara finally snapped out of her thoughts at the sound of her mothers loud panicked voice. The brown haired girl looked up towards her mom and the doctor. “Sor-sorry I was lost in my thoughts…” She apologized. “Mrs.Sterling, please sit down, so I can make sure Sara is okay.” The doctor said before starting the check up.

It took about two hours before the medical ward would let Sara leave. Once she finally arrived home it was already nine o'clock at night, her mother had to go back to the hospital to discuss some things with the doctor. Sara couldn’t get it out of her head, what she saw. Her father was the only one she could talk to about this, he’s gone now. He was the only one who knew what she could do, that she could see, hear and feel things no one else could and that she knew what would happen later in time. Sara knew she had to find that dragon, she had to save it. She had to know why it called to her, if she was right about what it was. The sixth dragon, the sixth elemental.
Sara dug through her closet until she found an empty bag. It was one of those satchel type ones, it had been her father’s. She emptied the few contents in it and started packing. She was going to find it, she needed to.  She packed a book about the unknown, a book about herbs, a journal, pencils, flint and steel, two different pocket knives, a coin pouch, two bags of jerky, a map of the region, bandages, strapped to the outside of the bag is a pot, water bottle, a compass, a lantern and a bottle of alcohol to help fuel it.

After changing into more suitable clothes and tying her long brown hair up she grabbed her long sword and slipped the strap of the sheath over her shoulder then grabbed her bag and walked out of the house. Sara knew not to light the lantern until she made it into the forest. She grabbed her bike and snuck through the alley ways till she made it to the edge of town. “You can do this Sara… Just go…” Sara continued to make her way into the forest.
