Episode 5: Engagements

"Thanks for coming with me, Bunny," I said, as I put down a cube-shaped hard drive. It looked like something from my grandpa's era.

We returned to Kaguya city in the morning. I'd been pondering where our meeting should take place. The best location for that would be the sacred mountain overlooking the city. The temple on it to be exact.

"You're welcome," Conrad, smiling. He stared at the room we were in. It was the room where Father had us fight digital renders of abysmals when the five of us had first gathered. "But why did you wish to come here?"

"Dad said that our final training would be here. So I got to prepare things so we can finish it before heading out to Xeleria. Your brother and cousin should be bringing some more equipment too."

He blinked. "Is it a good idea to tell me? I am still with Grandpa."

Did he really insist on that?

"You are my little cousin. Plus, knowing this doesn't really benefit Abyssia much."

"Huh? How so? They could stop you five from powering up any further."

I smiled. "See. You yourself are already aware. If you were going to rat us out, they would have already attacked."

Conrad gasped. "Did you trick me to find out how much I knew?"

I snickered. "Sort of, but I didn't intend to. I figured that the reason they haven't attacked us is that their hands are tied with the civil war."

Conrad looked down and pressed his index fingers together. "Yeah. Grandpa Reginald is busy."

His mother and Plum had returned to Abyssia without him. Whatever was brewing on their side, they must've not wanted him involved. Though, Selena had offered to leave Conrad in return for her nephews. But her intention was likely for the benefit of all three boys.

"Where do you want these?" Tetsuya called out as Serra and he came in carrying adult-sized glass and metal pods. Both of them carried them without straining despite being heavier than their size would indicate.

"Here," I said, pointing at the machines Conrad and I had brought.

"What are these for anyway? Are you going to go inside?" Serrano asked as he put his down.

"Yeah, the vajra will be turned into mana. The task is to absorb all of it into our bodies and weapons."

Tetsuya wrinkled his nose at the giant test tubes. "Doesn't sound fun..."

"Heard it's painful too," Conrad said.

"Assume that Naoru told you that?" I said, putting a hand on my hip.

He nodded.

Naoru had the sixth vajra. Hopefully, the five of us would also be able to survive this test. That said, had my father and Kuroshi attempted it on anyone else prior to him? Both thoughts were frightening to contemplate...

Tetsu smiled. "Well, hopefully, it'll go by quickly. Agnes's dragon orb will likely help a ton."

"How so?" Conrad asked, blinking.

He chuckled and transformed his bracelet into a shield. "The green orb you see here can absorb energy. I used it to focus darkness mana into a powerful beam before."

"Was that when you fought Satoru here?" I asked.

"Yeah!" Tetsuya frowned. "Though, I'd missed his core."

Satoru... I couldn't help but feel as if I'd forgotten something important about him. But what could it have been? Maybe it was all a dream I had and that's why I couldn't recall.

"What else can it do?" Con asked, tilting his head.

I smiled. "We can check it over there," I said, pointing to one of the computers that produced the hologram abysmal we had trained with.

"Think that I opened another ability?"

"Not sure, but it's worth checking."

"There's nothing really new," a voice echoed out of Agnes.

I gasped as his angel popped out of the shield. The woman resembled my late grandmother for some reason. She also reminded me a little of Rosa and Yuko. Could my sister have impacted his angel's appearance? That would explain the Yuko aspects, given they shared the same soul. Or maybe Yuko contributed herself.

"So, it's only energy absorption, potion making, barrier craft, and defense increase?" Tetsuya asked.

"No, there's also the elemental bonus which doubles power during a pinch. And the shared growth bonus that allows Agnes to grow stronger when your body and mana control does and vice versa."

"Your shared growth and defenses increasing with the more damage you take abilities are basically cheat codes!" I said, crossing my arms and grinning.

Tetsuya rubbed the back of his neck and chuckled. "Yeah, in a way they are."

"Lucky," Serra said, sighing.

"Hey, Aventine has some cool abilities too!" Tetsuya said.

Serra smiled. "Yeah, I guess she does."

"What can Alma do?" Conrad asked, glancing at my ankle bracelet.

"They're all special moves, so nothing passive."

Serra chuckled. "Just like you."

My cheeks blushed. "Is that supposed to be a compliment or an insult?"

"A compliment! If anything, I think it's awesome how you're not one to just watch."

I fanned my face and looked around the room. "I-is it just me or the air conditioner here not working at all?"

"Seems fine to me," Conrad said, blinking.

Tetsuya laughed. "That brings me back."

Did he use that excuse around my sister and Yuko? Knowing him, he probably did.

"I still can't believe that my little sister's going to be a mom," I said, sighing.

"M-me neither," Tetsuya said, looking down. He was lucky that his dark skin covered up part of his blush. Mine gave me up right away.

"I thought that we would be parents first," Serra mumbled.

I gulped. "Uh..."

He coughed on his saliva as the meaning of his words hit him. "I, uh..."

I rubbed my shoulders and turned away. "So, you've had those kinds of thoughts."

"Of having kids, not that act of making them!"

Tetsuya laughed. "I'm starting to think that Leviathan missed your lust when she said that you barely sinned besides the occasional bout of envy and wrath."

"Brother pervy," Conrad mumbled.

"I'm not Eiichi!"

I looked down at the floor. "How many kids did you imagine us having anyway?"

"Huh? Uh... five or more."

"Five?" Tetsuya blurted out.

"And people say we bunnies have a lot of kids," Conrad said, eyes wide.

He had a point, that was an ample amount of children to have. Though, five would probably make the palace more lively.

"I'm kind of worried that you understand these things!" Serrano yelled.

"I'm as surprised as you are," Tetsuya said.

"Onami explained it to me," Con said, blushing. "She thought not knowing could make it easier for Anestarte to mislead me."

"Wait, you met her before?" I asked, looking up. "But you acted like you barely knew her."

Conrad gulped. "I pushed those memories aside. They're kind of scary."

"D-did she do anything to you?" Serrano asked, grabbing his shoulders.

He looked up. "No! I mean, not that she didn't try. I brushed off her advances or got saved by Kohri, Onami, or by my angel friend!"

Tetsuya gritted his teeth. "Of course she would pull stuff like that!"

"We need to get Kushina to kill her," I said, stepping toward the test tubes.

"Likewise with the other angels. Though, it will be hard to kill all of them without Masayoshi and Renata around," Serrano said.

"Hard? It's impossible without them. Unless the Sky Father decides to intervene directly."

Conrad touched his chest. "Piedad and I still have to deal with the conscious of the demons within us."

Serrano squeezed his shoulders again. "Has that guy stirred again?"

"Not really. I'm not sure if he's plotting something or if he's too tired to even try."

She sighed. "That's good."

"Not that Anestarte didn't try," I said.

Serrano growled. "I'll be sure to make her pay."

"Brother, be careful with anger."

"Serra can get pretty scary when mad. I've almost died to that side of his twice!" Tetsuya said, flinging his hands behind his head.

Conrad jumped. "Twice?"

"Can we please not talk about this!" Serrano said, flustered.

I smiled. "I agree."

Serrano nearly struck the ceiling when his phone rang.

I narrowed my eyes at him as he hit the ground. "Who's that? Wait, let me guess, it's Ximena, isn't it?"

Serra stared at his phone. "No, it's... Eiichi?"

"Eiichi?" I said, wrinkling my nose.

Conrad backed away. "I'm going to go see what Rosa's doing!" he yelled, running off.

"I'll go with you!" Tetsuya said, rushing after him. Agnes sighed and flew after him.

Poor Conrad was trying to move on, but doing so was never going to be so simple. Likewise with Tetsuya. Not that I expect them to. It was the same for me. I wasn't going to rest until Eiichi fulfilled his promise to face punishment for his actions.

"What are you calling me for?" Serrano yelled, answering.

"You okay?" a voice called back. It wasn't Eiichi, but Ryonoko.

"Huh? Your highness? Pardon my yelling, but why are you calling from this guy's phone?"

He sighed. "I didn't get the chance to get your phone number, so Eiichi just gave me his phone."

"Couldn't he have given you his number?"

"He seems to be a bit worried but Sabine."

"What happened to her?" I asked.

"She's not feeling well, even after resting. Her memories are acting up. Think she's getting close to recalling how she ended up in Abyssia in the first place."

That would've been nice to know, but I couldn't shake off that it wasn't going to be good. My guess was that a portal had spontaneously opened and grabbed her. Such events were rare, but not unheard of according to Kuroshi.

"Are you going to stay until she remembers?" Serra asked.

"Taku suggests that we do, but Eiichi refuses to do so. We're heading back as we speak."

"I see, but maybe that's for the better," I said.

"How so?"

"We changed plans. We're moving the meeting up as well as its location. It'll now be to the north of Kaguya. The quicker we can agree to a mutual strategy, the better."

"That's true."

"Are you finished?" Eiichi asked, sounding on edge.

"Yeah, here you go."

"Thanks," Eiichi said before hanging up on us.

"What was that?" I yelled at the phone. "I know that he's worried for Sabine, but couldn't he have said something back to us?"

"Who cares? Hearing that guy say 'thanks' is grating enough as it is. Even if it's not directed at us," Serrano said, putting his phone away.

I lowered my head. "Serra, I know that it's not easy, but the boys had a point. You have to control your anger."

"I know; we had this discussion before."

I stepped toward him and look him in the eyes. "I'll repeat it to you however many times it takes if it'll lighten your rage even a little."

He gasped and stepped back. His cheeks flushed like a cherry. "You don't have to do that. Please don't concern yourself with me."

I put my hands on my hips and narrowed my eyes at him. "How can you ask me that? We're going to be husband and wife. If I ignore your issues, that would make me a bad wife!"

He looked back at me. "The five kids didn't scare you off?"

I let go of him. "Wait, so you just said that to get me to break the engagement?"

"N-no! I meant it!" Serra turned his head away and grabbed his collar. "I'm just surprised that you weren't taken aback by it as Tetsu and Con were."

I fidgeted. "Well, this palace is pretty big, so there's ample space for more than five kids. Plus, it might be fun to have a bunch of rugrats running around."

Serra scratched his cheek and smiled. "I see."

I crossed my hands together. "That said, aren't you still in love with Ximena?"

"I... Well, just before we departed she told me that maybe we wouldn't work out."

I gasped. "She did?"

He nodded solemnly. "She told me that we would be better off being friends."

How odd. I was sure that she was still in love with him. Why did she go ahead and say that? Maybe Ximena was as self-sacrificing as Serra. Or perhaps she felt like he would never make a decision unless she made it for him. Should I have pushed him to continue fighting for her? Or was letting him pick me the correct decision?

I snickered. "Oh, so you were dumped before even dating."

He grumbled. "It's not funny."

I sighed. "Well, nor is being the rebound. But, I guess that I can't be too picky."

He adjusted his shirt's collar again. "Really do think that someone needs to get that air conditioner fixed."

I snickered. "Say, do you think we could have puppies?"

He blinked. "Puppies?"

"Your mom can turn into a dog."

"Yeah, but I can't. Hmm, the five probably won't be tigers like me. Well, one might. Tere is a cat like Uncle."

Laughter echoed from the direction of the stairs.

"Huh, Dad?" Serrano said, jumping.

"Seems that you two are getting along."

I glared at him. "It's not what you think!"

"Oh and what is it that you think that I'm thinking?"

I pouted. "It's obvious by that grin you're giving us."

He chuckled. "You two really are adorkable!"

Serra stepped forward and pushed his dad away. "Leave us alone."

"Alright, I'll leave you lovebirds alone. Just don't start making those cubs yet. We still have a war going on."

"We know!" we yelled in unison.

He turned and waved.

"Ugh, that guy is so annoying," Serra said, glaring at his father as he closed the door behind him.

I scoffed. "He's as bad as my father."

"What do you mean? King Osamu isn't annoying."

"Really I find Uncle more bearable. At least he jokes around. My old man takes everything too seriously." I laughed as I recalled when Serra was younger. "Then again, the same applies to you."

He narrowed his eyes. "And you're as much of a joker as my parents and Tetsu."

I crossed my arms. "Well, sorry that I can't be like Xime."

"You aren't too different. The both of you are nice and caring, watching over the poor. And Xime herself can be quite the teaser."

My cheeks flushed. "So, what's the difference?"

"You're a lot rougher!"

I coughed. He could be so blunt sometimes!

"Well, excuse me for speaking my mind..." I whispered, turning away.

"It's not all bad." He rubbed his neck. "If anything, it's what makes you an effective leader."

"It does?"

"Yeah. Like Uncle, you can tell others what has to be done without beating around the bush. You aren't like me who sometimes spends a lot of time trying to figure out the right words to say. If anything, it makes you authentic. Well, when you aren't being a tsundere of course!"

I grumbled. Why did he have to say that last part?

I smiled. "It's nothing special. Plus, it's gotten me into trouble too."

"Huh, I didn't think that you cared."

I sighed. "I would do it again, but I do wonder if I could get things across more effectively."

Serra patted me on the shoulder and laughed. "Well, as long as you keep that spirit in mind, I'm sure you'll be fine."

I pulled up the collar of my blouse. "If you say so."

He gasped.

"What's wrong?" I asked, looking at my shirt.

"It's nothing," he said, laughing nervously.

I looked at my shirt. It looked fine. No tears or the like. Wait, could he be surprised that I'm wearing something like this?

My eyes narrowed. "You were surprised that I dressed nicely for once, aren't you?"

"Well, yeah. I mean, you have for some occasions like the ball, but dressing this nicely while moving around heavy things is a bit odd."

I smiled. "You have a point, but it was the last clean shirt that I had on me."

"I assume that Rosa gave it to you?"

I laughed and spun around. "Did the frills give it away?"

He grinned. "Yeah, you could say that. Anyway, let's go back up. We still have stuff to get."

"True. Let's hustle!"

**Solar Note: Hope that you enjoyed the episode ^_^. Hope that you enjoyed it. Currently considering whether or not to start a new story to enter the Wattys, but if I do it might cause me to go on hiatus on occasion. So I wanted to ask you folks for your thoughts on the matter. Should I do it or keep working on my ongoing series?**
