Helloooooo so as im back into editing after the phone storage event, i got straight back into artistry flair's fourth week since i missed the third already and i wouldn't like it if i missed more activities.

The theme for this week's activity was basically 'BRIGHT HORROR' where we take darker themed prompts and turn it into bright amd colorful covers but retain the darker concepts.

Here's my take on KILLER SMILE. when i first read through the prompts, this definitely caught my eye. My thought was that a smile can easily border creepy and bright so this would be a great first cover so that i could get the hang of the concept.

I actually recorded the process of making this BUT im not planning on uploading that anytime soon as i still have an ibispaint speed edit of the current cover of dusty shelves in the works.

It's a fairly simple cover but along the way i found out about KILLER KLOWNZ FROM OUTER SPACE so i got inspo from images of that from google.

HIHIHI. so bright horror, right?? My general idea going into this prompt was that i wanted the portrayer's face to be ripped apart by someone/thing from the inside.

I was having a problem looking for portrayers that looked a bit creepy but has very bright colors until i found this that is. I started making this in the image in it's normal orientation then i thought that since he was already crying pink tears, let's give him pink eyes too, though compared to my other eye edits, ive given this a bit more dimension by shading(?) it. I've been stuck in a loop of doing that to almost all of my edits and i really should think of other ideas at some point—

Then i started adding the hand and the area where it will come from. I couldn't really find the hand model i was looking for, so i settled with this one instead.

The blue colored skin was supposed to be the inside of his ripped skin thay flopped downafter it was cut open though im pretty sure i portrayed that poorly. This has to be my most difficult manip attempt up to date mostly due to the perspectives, color and shading that i had to do.

Tbvh, i didn't even intend to make the color of the hand blue it just sorta happened when i was fixing the lightness and saturation of it then i left the hue on green (from a prevuous edit) and i thought that it looked kinda cool so i picked a color that would complement the pink and it went on from there.

I was about to add the typography (while repeating the mantra of 'it's gonna be boring and typical' in my head) then i got this weird urge to flip it upside-down. And so i did and the rest that happened was the cover as you see now.

This is probably one of the manips where i did the most to my portrayer and im fine with that i guess?? this is actually an entry for Meraki Cover Contest and tot ell you the truth, i had a bit of a hard time brain storming for a concept.

I've been browsing pinterest a lot for ideas then i remembered the painted lady from ATLA and BOOM idea!! i resesrched a bit on google since i wanted to find out if the painted lady from avatar was inspired by a folklore or legend from other countries but instead, i found that the painted lady is also a name of a butterfly.

So the painted lady (scientific name: Vanessa cardui, hence the vanessa in the title) is usually an orange butterfly with mostly black and white accents. I tried replicating those colors unto Handong and im pretty satisfied with my execution :D  i was actually aiming for a flowier dress but this orange one i found would have to work since i got too tired of searching pinterest.

Soooo that's basically it i guess??
