#GRAPHIC WARS : YOU CAN NEVER LEARN WITHOUT TRYING (UPDATED!)
hewow~~ so i decided that every contest that i join with multiple rounds will have a chapter dedicated to them!
so this chapter will soon be filled with all of my entries for Graphic Wars and i hope y'all can enjoy looking through these and giving me feedback aswell!
18 | IM NOT SOCIAL, BUT IM AWARE OF SOCIAL ISSUES
final ver.
so oof- if y'all have been lurking in the internet and at least are concerned in the kpop industry im pretty sure this might ring a bell.
so the first challenge for us was to actually make a graphic tackling a social issue of our choice. After researching for a bit i knew i wanted my topic to be corruption
so my first idea has nothing to do with the SOPA Scandal, but more with the protests against government corruption but i came across with the video of SOPA students from last year and so that was born. it's not particularly government corruption, but it is still in the area of corruption
so the graphic hopefully shows, just by the looks w/o reading the littered texts, students who were forcefully silenced by the school from speaking out about the issues they were dealing with and were threatened to that the school will be taking legal actions and were asked to make public apologies if ever broken.
26 | MYSTICAL BEINGS BELONG HERE
okok, before I get too excited let me explain what we were asked to do. our prompt for this second round was to make a hybrid of two creatures of our choice as long as the outcome doesn't exist as a creature already (ex, we can't make a centaur, an alicorn, pegasus etc.)
so I decided to make a hybrid from a GORGON from Greek mythology and a KITSUNE from Japanese folklore, since most of their physical attribute are more closely related to the kitsune, I decided to name them in the Japanese language as キツネヘビ which literally translates to Fox snake (thanks Google)
this paragraph will explain why I decided to merge those two together. For one, I knew I wanted my creature to at least be humanoid or the base be human, so I had to be creative because a human counts as one creature. then I remember reading from one of my old books (one of those hard bound Thea Stilton's) that there are creature guides based on what they are in the book. so I went with a kitsune in her human form. next, I knew the other creature shouldn't interfere with the human design, so thought a gorgon would be a good compromise as their main elements are the snakes on their head. I tried adding scales on her forehead, not quite sure how that went- and also I tried making her eye makeup seem more red and that was based on the kitsune masks.
and now to explain my creature. in Japanese folklore, the kitsune is a mischievous yokai however, in the book I based on they are gentle wise creatures. the sphere they are holding contains some of their powers and if someone took a hold of it, they will be forced to grant a wish or help that person.
as you can see in the graphic, the snakes on their hair usually face the sphere aswell and they serve as another protector to the sphere.
Foxsnakes usually live alone and are scattered across different forests. they can shapeshift into a fox (they'll appear like a fox with ninetails and their snakes would be wrapped on the fox's torso) by will but they usually spend their time on their human form. They are gentle and shy creatures who tend to run away from other creatures from fear that their sphere might be taken.
though they are peaceful, some foxsnakes make their sacred gardens in forests and those who get caught inside will be turned into stones with their ability. The those stone statues can be found scattered in their garden as decor and a warning to outsiders.
34 | A WEDDING WITNESSED BY THE STARS
HI! so I'm still in the competition (by what sheer luck-) and we were tasked to make a wedding invite! this was so interesting and fun to make because one, I've never done anything similar to this and two, a lot of wedding invites look the same which made it hard to try and make this stand out
when we were asked to do this, I was first stressing out about the couple I'll put (we were asked to choose from any movie we like) because my mind blanked XD I couldn't remember any movies with prominent couples that I've recently watched (as a 16 year old, I'm still very much into cartoons and variety shows than romance movies and I'm also currently into watching home renovation stuff while stuck inside our home).
then I remembered this movie that I watched a long time ago that I remember getting a glimpse of again this month while browsing through our TV channels so I jumped into Google and had fun :))
the movie I'm talking about is STARDUST that was shown back in 2007 and so a galaxy themed wedding invite was born. the date was loosely based on the movie(or at least a synopsis I read) as the year it was meant to be in was 1856 while the places were both from the fictional world where both Yvaine and Tristan could exist in (because I think [from what I remember] once she crosses the wall she'll turn into dust).
main inspirations while making this was a galaxy aesthetic, the cover of HAVENFALL, and an actual wedding with a stars, moon and sun concept :))
35 | BECAUSE MARK IS BACK IN DREAM
HI, IM STILL ALIVE. so my last entry (the wedding invitation) actually got 3rd place for that specific round!! bUT NOW IM GONNA DIE. well, I haven't been good at blends at all and I am actually not very fond of making them either XD but for this round, I was forced to step out of my comfort zone :P
we were asked to make a blend containing a quote (I chose "time will tell") and at least 3 images from the board our host provided and show those aswell.
y'all have no idea how much I've rubbed my head to make up an idea because, as a matter of fact, THIS WAS MY FOURTH ATTEMPT in making my entry for this round.
my first idea was to go with a spring theme (the quote was also " time will tell") but I got too lazy to cut out a bunch if images I gathered from pinterest. next was two attempts of an obession MV inspired blend (quote = find your fire) but I couldn't make something I was particularly happy with until I just decided to f*ck it and go with mark Lee.
its been a while since it was stated that he's going back so i felt that the quote "time will tell" is a but suitable. then going through the lyrics of we young, I grabbed the other quote present in the graphic.
here, I was mainly focusing on the colors of the graphic and trying to make a cohesive color palette.
/I'll just quickly explain where I used those resources/ the mountain one is the base of the background, the tower, flowers, and cloth thingy are actually pretty front on pieces and are just cut out and the marble texture was actually used as an overlay.
obviously I used more resources than just those. the others are pretty much more pins I've got saved, textures from instagram and pngs I've got laying around in my phone.
53 | SO I FOUND THIS EGG IN THE FOREST... WHAT SHOULD I DO NOW?
HELLO!! I haven't updated this part for a long time (mostly because I forgot but shhhh) and now I wanted to share my entry for the last(?) and final(?) round of this contest.
the prompt was so fun and creative that I totally enjoyed making this!! the manip went fairly well even without the help of blurring tools so I'm pleased XD. I'm really happy with how the egg turned out! the cracks were hand drawn along with the green ooze! I wished I could've made the green ooze glow but I don't know how to without the use of Gaussian blur 😅😅.
the tree branch also looks fairly natural on her hand but I'm not too fond of the lighting the cover has. the typography was okay, but it was nothing special.
ALL IN ALL this is definitely not one of my best works but making this was mildly entertaining ^-^
