Excerpt
"Don't you think that it's time that you told him?" Geoffrey asked, pointing down to the mask where it lay on the table.
Makena shook her head. "There's no point. It won't do anything."
"It'll stop him from bad-mouthing the Silent Warrior."
"'Hiding behind a mask is a coward's job'," Makena repeated the words that she heard her uncle say on many occasions.
"What was that?" Geoffrey asked.
"That was what Uncle Leroy would say about me. Unintentionally, of course," she added after Geoffrey cocked his eyebrow.
"Don't let it get to you, kid." He leaned over and ruffled the girl's hair. "Your uncle may be strong, but he ain't smart." He sat back against his chair. "After all, if they knew who you were, you'd be followed home wherever you went."
Makena gave a small smile as she picked up the mask and slipped it into her pocket. It seemed that she wouldn't be telling her uncle anytime soon.
