Chapter 2

The bell rang and I don't think I've ever been as happy as I was in that moment. Everyone in the hallway rushed to their classes and I was left alone.

I forgot which way Jane had pointed and looked at the room number.

It read '103'. My room number was 108. I walked a bit more down the hall and walked into the room with the door number I needed.

The teacher was with her back towards the students and writing something on the blackboard. She turned towards me when the door creaked open.

"Oh, hello." She had a very soft spoken voice and I could tell I would like her already.

"You must be the new senior. I am Ms. Aldrin, your AP Math teacher." She stuck out her hand and I shook it happily.

"Would you like to introduce yourself?" She asked me, gesturing to the rest of the students in the room. I nodded shyly. I placed my backpack down in an empty chair around the middle and hurried back to the front of the room.

"H-hi." I stuttered. Let's just say I'm not the best public speaker. "My name is Hazel Belmont. And I moved here from G-Georgia."

Someone in the back said, "Cough, cough, freak, cough."

The entire class (except for a few) started laughing and my face turned as red as a tomato.Ms. Aldrin's face turned a slight shade darker.

"James McNair! You come up here right now, young man, and apologize." Her tone was harsh and the way she glared at him made me wish I wasn't in this class. The dirty-blond haired, brown-eyed boy came up with his face proud and smirking.

"I do hope you will accept my humble apology, and we can part ways as unlikely friends." He stuck out his hand in a sarcastic manner but I shook it nonetheless.

"Your apology has been accepted." I told him in a serious tone. Of course I was joking, but no one needed to know that! I sat down in my seat and paid attention to Ms. Aldrin.

"Now class! I hope you guys remember what you did last year, because today is going to be a pop quiz on last year's math course!" Some of the students groaned while others kept straight faces. She passed them out and I started working immediately.

The quiz wasn't too bad. It was only seven pages long and was just some of the basics I covered last year in math. Oh, algebra! You were my dearest enemy. I was able to finish the quiz in forty minutes. I raised my hand slowly and was called on by Ms. Aldrin.

"Yes, Hazel? Did you have a question?" A few people turned to look at me and I blushed slightly.

"No ma'am. I just want to turn in the quiz." I stood up from my seat and walked to the front desk. Just as I was about to pass the first row of desks, a foot shot out and tripped me.

My arms flew out in from of me. My papers flew everywhere and I felt like I was falling in slow motion before a pair of arms grabbed my waist. I opened my eyes to find myself facing, not the floor, but a pair of bright blue eyes staring right into mine.

"Are you alright?" His voice was that of an angel and his hair was flawless. He stood about 5'11, and was at least a head taller than me.

"I-I'm fine." We stood there in a moment of silence before I snapped out of my trance. I stood up straight and picked up my papers, placing them at the front desk. I was about to turn back in my seat when Ms. Aldrin called my attention.

"Hazel, if you wish to leave early, you may." I nodded at her respectively and gathered my belongings.

I walked down the corridors looking like a lost puppy trying to find home. I walked past a beautiful room with at least two stories of books and I fell in love immediately. I walked into (what I presumed to be) the library and walked over to the book section. Classics, science fiction, romances, anime, mystery, crime, drama, fiction. Any book that you could imagine was most likely in this library. Walking into the huge room, I picked up one of my favorite books, Pride and Prejudice, and took it to the back of the room to read.

'It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife.' I read to myself.

"I don't mean to bother you, but I do believe I was sitting there first." A voice above me said. I looked up to see a girl with shoulder-length brown hair and brown eyes looking down at me, with at least eight books in her arms.

"Oh I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to take your spot." I exclaimed. The librarian stood up from her seat in the desk area.

"Sh!" I nearly glared at her. I turned to the girl again.

"Do you need any help with your books?" I whispered to her. She smiled at me and shook her head.

"Thanks for the offer, but I'm good. My class starts in a few minutes." She sighed. She seemed nice, maybe she's a good candidate for a friend here. I stuck out my hand.

"I'm Hazel Belmont, and I just moved here." She shook my hand.

"Julissa Albright. I'm president of the Book Club and the Art Club." I grinned.

"Cool! I might join one of those clubs later. I love to read!" I exclaimed quietly. Trust me, I did not want to get caught by the librarian again. She smiled at me excitedly.

"Great! I can't wait to sign up. Do you think that I could get your number so that I can get the details later?" I asked her. She nodded excitedly and we swapped numbers. "Maybe we can hang out during lunch.

"Can I see your schedule?" I gave her my schedule and she read the paper quietly. She smiled as soon as she returned it to me.

"We have free period, lunch and music together, so we'll be seeing each other a lot." I smiled warmly in return.

The bell rang before we could say anything else and we said our goodbyes and separated to go to our next classes.
