Guide: Pronunciation

tarsrife requested this chapter, so here it is for the benefit of all!

First, the specific questions; then I will provide a general, (hopefully) helpful guide.

Ceristen: CARE-ih-stenn

The c is NOT like "ceiling", but " cardboard". This is the case in any Ordenian names, because the old language had one letter for the k sound and another for the s; they were not interchangeable.

Laufeia: this is actually a name I found in a baby name book, soooo... my pronunciation will possibly differ from what is correct. XD But I say it law-FEE-ah.

Rehirne: ruh-HEERN. Pretty straightforward. Rehirnish names incorporate the English silent-e principle(some of my Claw readers may have noticed this).

So, general principles.

In Orden, pronounce any c as k, and all th's as in thin, not then. There are no silent letters. As a rule, e should be pronounced "eh", but on the rare occasion when an accent mark is placed above it, say it "ay". The letter a should usually be said "ah", or more sloppily "uh".

Vowel combinations:

ai like ay (e.g. draith, power)

ae like eye (e.g. dissedae, to deny)

oe like oy (e.g. doelthe, defeat)

Rehirnish names should follow most ordinary English pronunciation. Don't pronounce the e at the end of words, and in such cases give the preceding vowel its long sound rather than the short.

I don't know whether to write anything further, since there's been little to do with any other country's names in the books so far.

*remembers FitD* Rodronian doesn't have much odd pronunciation though.

*remembers ACC* But I already gave a guide in that book.

If you have specific questions about any names, fire them off here!
