Tw: Slight mention of child abuse
Mal smiled once they finished up their routine and she saw another kid go by. She eyed the lollipop in his hand. Mal had never really gotten to have a lollipop before and she really wanted to try it. The candy looked so good to the young girl. She didn't even hesitate to take it from the other kid who was about her age. Mal quickly swiped it from him.
She knew that he always seemed to have candy as she had seen him around a few times. She was always jealous every time she would watch him with the candy. Not that she has ever really spoken to him. Mal preferred her own crew over the other kids her age.
"Yay candy!" Mal exclaimed excitedly, holding the lollipop up enjoying her victory. Just as Mal was about to eat the lollipop that she had just taken, everyone else began to flee in panic. This was a signal to them that Maleficent was coming. Mal was too distracted with the candy at first to notice what was going on, but Evie, Jay, and Carlos noticed immediately. The three of them quickly tensed up. They always got anxious around Maleficent.
Evie had to hold herself back from pulling Mal close to them. She knew that it was out of their hands now. Maleficent was here again and if they did anything it could get bad for all of them. As soon as Mal turned around her face immediately lit up when she saw the henchmen.
"Mommy!" Mal cried out excitedly quickly running over to her. Maleficent just looked at her in disgust as she pushed the young girl back. "What did I say about that word," Maleficent told the young girl who just looked over confused.
"What word?" Mal asked the evil fairy who just scoffed. "Don't get smart with me! You know what word I'm talking about!" Maleficent replied as she hated whenever Mal would call her mommy. It was weak and she refused to go by such a weak name. Mal just looked confused again. She didn't understand.
"I don't know what word you mean mommy," Mal told Maleficent again, just angering her more. "You know exactly what word I mean! How many times have I told you never to refer to me as that!" Maleficent snapped, causing Mal to look down. She knew that she had disappointed her mommy again. Mal always hated disappointing her mommy.
"I'm sowy," Mal told Maleficent, hoping to make it better. This however did the opposite as Maleficent just got closer to Mal and looked at her. "What did you just say?" Maleficent asked the young girl. She couldn't believe she had just heard those words come out of someone that had come from her bloodline. Villains never said sorry they don't feel remorse. That's softness and Maleficent would not stand for such a thing.
The other three villain kids just watched, not knowing what to do. They knew that this was about to get bad for the small girl; it was obvious by the way Maleficent was looking at Mal. If this was any other situation they would be right there ready to fight, but this was different. They couldn't just grab Mal and run. If they stood up to Maleficent they most likely would never be seen again.
As much as it was killing them to watch this interaction they knew they had no choice. The best thing for Mal would be for them to stay out of it. Mal, not realizing that she had messed up just looked over at her mom. "I'm sowy," Mal replied again, this statement immediately followed with a slap sending the small girl backwards. Mal quickly grabbed her stinging cheek.
Evie immediately broke from her ditzy act as she just helped Mal back up. "Are you okay?" Evie whispered to Mal gently rubbing Mal's cheek that was starting to turn red. Evie didn't care that she was showing a sign of weakness right now. She just wanted to be sure that Mal was okay at this point. This wasn't the first time that Evie had to do something like this. Mal was always getting hurt whether on her own or by Maleficent.
Evie really had to hold herself back from doing the same thing back to Maleficent that she had just done to Mal. It hurt seeing Maleficent do this to her own child. Mal was just a little girl she didn't know any better. Before Evie could get an answer though she was grabbed by one of the henchmen. He roughly pulled her away from Mal. Evie didn't even hesitate. She just elbowed the man in his chest causing him to let go of her as she joined back with Carlos and Jay.
"What the hell!" Jay exclaimed looking over at the mistress of evil who was glaring daggers at her own child and seething. Jay knew that it wasn't the best idea to stand up to her, but he couldn't help it. Mal was their responsibility they were told to protect her and that included even from her own mother sometimes.
And Jay also didn't like how the henchmen had roughly grabbed Evie. They had no right to do that. Maleficent just ignored him though continuing to glare at the small girl.
Mal just held back her tears. She refused to cry in front of her mother. "I never want to hear you say those words again! We're villains, we don't say that word ever!" Maleficent threatened as she grabbed Mal's wrist and yanked the candy out of her hand.
"That's mine!" Mal cried out while trying to grab the candy back. "This is all you could do? Steal some candy from another bratty child!" Maleficent called out, continuing to look at her child in disgust. Mal was supposed to be her heir and the next her however instead she was always messing up and making Maleficent embarrassed.
Mal wasn't evil enough no matter how much she had been pushing and training. Mal just reached over again trying to get the candy back. She didn't care if she was looking weak and desperate in front of her mom and her crew. Mal wanted that candy and she knew that her mom wasn't going to let her have it.
"Give it back!" Mal cried out again as she kept trying to reach for the candy. Maleficent just cackled. She had to admit even though Mal was being weak again she was enjoying seeing how desperate Mal was becoming for the stupid lollipop. "I don't think so," Maleficent told Mal as she just spit on the lollipop and put it under her arm before handing it to one of her henchmen.
"Go give it back to the dreadful creature," Maleficent told the henchman who went off with the lollipop. Mal just watched. The tears started to fall before she could hold them back. "That was mine!" Mal exclaimed as more tears began to fall.
This action quickly made Maleficent become more frustrated grabbing Mal's wrist again."Stop crying! We do not cry! And you didn't deserve that candy! Things like that must be earned!" Maleficent snapped letting go of Mal's wrist, sending the young girl backwards again.
Mal quickly got back up going over to the evil fairy. "I did earn that! I stole that fair and square!" Mal argued back. She normally would never talk back to her mother like this but she had really wanted that candy. It had been a while since Mal had gotten any real food that wasn't moldy and gross let alone a treat like that.
Evie just looked over at Mal giving her a look. Evie knew that she couldn't say anything right now with Maleficent there, but she needed Mal to stop. The more Mal argued and fought the worse it would get for her. Maleficent didn't like it when anyone back talked to her. Especially not when Mal did. Mal's job was to do whatever Maleficent said. Maleficent did not take orders from anyone, especially not from a little girl.
Mal didn't seem to understand though. "Nothing is fair or square here! If you wanted to keep that candy you should have fought for it. You're too weak and pathetic to do that though," Maleficent replied, pushing Mal back with her scepter.
"That's not true!" Mal cried out, making Maleficent laugh. "It is true! When I was your age I was already planning and scheming how to curse kingdoms. The worst you can do is steal some measly candy and you can't even fight to keep it," Maleficent told Mal while Evie, Jay, and Carlos just looked at each other and rolled their eyes. They knew that Maleficent was lying to make herself look more powerful and evil.
Maleficent was definitely not planning to take over kingdoms when she was only 4 years old. Not that Mal was old enough to see that though as she just looked down. "I'm just trying to teach you the thing that really counts. How to be me," Maleficent told Mal, grabbing her and pulling her further away from the others to where they wouldn't be able to hear them.
"What does she even want?" Carlos whispered to the other two while Maleficent was still berating Mal who once again seemed to be going along with everything she was being told. "I don't know she never comes out like this," Jay whispered back.
"Eves you okay?" Carlos asked the older girl when he realized that she wasn't saying anything. Evie barely responded. She just kept her eyes on Mal and Maleficent. She didn't like any of this. "Eves," Jay called out a little louder but not too loud that Maleficent would hear them.
"What!" Evie snapped back. She refused to revert her eyes. "Jeez someones in a mood today," Carlos jokingly said, causing Evie to roll her eyes a little bit as she kept watching them. "Evie you gotta relax. She's fine," Jay told Evie after realizing why she was acting this way.
Evie always got tense and anxious anytime Maleficent would take Mal away from their sight. "How can I relax! She just slapped her and then walked off with her! Mal is mine not hers!" Evie snapped again causing the two boys to look over in shock. They knew that Evie had a soft spot for Mal. They all did, but this was the first time they had heard her refer to Mal as hers.
