The Fight

Since no one is reading this anyway I decided to just screw letting a Beta reader read this. So if there are many mistakes, I'm sorry, please report them to me, so I can fix them!

Thank you in advance and have fun reading!

One shuttle was caught, around 40 people of us left. We approached the ship. A scan from the shuttle showed it was fully functioning.

I knew this ship by heart now. It was my home for a year after Romulus. There was, where I tried to forget the hardest, where I was knowingly isolating myself only letting Tovan get near me, there was the place it broke me.

It wasn't pleasant to remember all of that but I knew I'd pull through because this was also the place Tovan made me feel again, made me fall in love, made me forget. Even if it was just a little.

"He's beautiful" Tovan whispered at my side. Funny, normally everyone called their ship "she" not "he".

"Yes, he is." I answered with a smile.

For a Mogai-Type this ship was really modern. They were the support Warbirds for our main D'deridex-types. That's why they normally weren't as good equipped as those were. But this one had the most modern technology. At least 11 years ago it had. You could probably fit a few better types in but nothing major. But he is beautiful.

"Alidar?" Tovan asked. "Yes?" I answered. Tovan turned to look at me. "I want you to command him." He laid his hand on my shoulder, his eyes focused on mine, almost melting me on the spot. I turned away blushing.

"I can't, you know..." I started but Tovan interrupted me. "I know you can do this, I know you can be in a commanding position, I know you have to be in one. You're made for it." He said. How could I now say no? I trusted him, I trusted him more then anyone else, I trusted him more then me.

"I'll do it." I whispered.

On the ship everyone took the position that suited them best. I stood there now, Tovan at my side, looking around the bridge.

"Your orders, sir?" Juctaa, an older guy, who has served for the Imperial Romulan Fleet, asked.

"Open ship wide com." I said sternly. "Is open."

"To the new crew of this vessel. I, Alidar T'Het Jarok took over command, after my and your, our, colony was attacked. This is in order to save our lives, to save us from the Tal Shiar tyranny. Commander out." Tovan was looking at me with a smile across his face.

"From all decks system are online and working." Juctaa gave through. He flew the ship on my command out of the asteroids.

What stood before us was astonishing! Four Mogai Warbirds and a D'deridex Warbird. "Sent a distress signal!" I yelled.

"Two Warbirds coming in for help, sir."

"Tovan, get to the tactical station and do as I say. Let's show them how real Romulans fight." On Tovans face appeared a smirk, he was waiting for my courage to come through.

"Sir, it's three against five, we are outnumbered! And the supports haven't even arrived! I think we should retreat." I ignored his comment.

"Engage the one on the right, he's furthest off. Disrupters ready, fire the torpedoes." The torpedoes hit the warbird right in the rear shield, where it was weakest.

"Fire disrupters!" Tovan knew exactly how to shoot and make the highest damage possible. "Their rear shields are offline!" I was about to give the command to fire all disrupters but Tovan already had done that.

"Good shot! Weapons and shields are offline; They are no threat."

"Now it's three against four, still think the odds are against us?" I said sarcastically. Juctaa flew the ship in position. We were attacking them from the right flank. By now they had noticed us. I didn't even think, I just gave commands and Juctaa flew like a god, letting barley anything hit us.

"Sir, hull breached on deck 3" Juctaa yelled. We already disabled another Mogai and left the D'deridex with low shields. Another salve of torpedoes and it was also disabled.

"Were are these reinforcements" I shouted.

"Two sectors away, sir."

"We could finish this Alidar." Tovan whispered. Was I about to give in? Was I about to fight, with low shields against two nearly undamaged Mogai Class Warbirds?

"Hail coming in, I'll put it on the main screen." Juctaa said again.

"Identify yourself and give over your ship. Your crew will be left alive if you capitulate now." The enemy commander said.

"I'm Commander Alidar T'Het Jarok, commanding the IRW D'evan. Standby until I've discussed this with my Subcommander." I turned to Tovan. "We will not capitulate! You know we love to fight for our people, for something we believe in!" he whisper-yelled at me.

"We aren't capitulating though, trust me. Now act like we had an argument which you've lost." I turned to the main screen again. "I've gone over it with my Subcommander and we agreed on capitulating." I said with a grim face.

"Good, close in on us and lower your shields." The enemy commander said. I went over to the tactical console and lowered our shields.

"Now get ready to be entered." With that they lowered their shields. Both of their warbirds were closing in on us. Before they could get in transporter range I fired all weapons and brought the shields back online. First I hit the shield emitters, then deflectors and weapons. Both remaining ships were now also disabled.

"It's over." I whispered. Tovan nearly jumped me. He pulled him into a tight hug.

"I knew you could do it." A few tears of joy were streaming down his face. "No, we did it." I smiled into the hug.

I couldn't have wished for more. Defending my people, saving the one that I love and then getting to hug him.

"Sir, I'm sorry to interrupt you, but two hails incoming." Juctaa brought me back to reality. "I'll putt them on the main screen."

"I do admit defeat, rule over us as you wish." The enemy Commander from before said.

"Astonishing, commander. You finished of four enemy ships on your own? We're from the Romulan Republic. Our wish is to end the tyranny of the Tal Shiar and bring peace to our brothers with the help of our founder and leader D'Tan." The Commander of our "reinforcements" said.

I turned my gaze towards Tovan again. "What do we do now?" I asked him. Maybe we should rebuild the colony, maybe we should find another one and help out there, maybe we should live on a spaceship again. I had no clue what to really do.

"May I answer your question? If you wish you could join us in the Romulan Republic. We could use a strong crew and ship like yours against the Tal Shiar." Judging, by the time our "reinforcements" needed, they had no idea how to fight.

They could use our help; They would need commanders. But is a Republic, led by a dictator, fighting a war for peace, really what we want to join? They wanted us because of our strength, wanted us to fight with them, why should we help?

As if reading my mind Tovan said: "I'm sorry to decline but we won't join your cause. At least not as warriors."

The commanders' facial expressions changed into a grim vision. "Then I think we need to destroy y-"

"Tovan cloak, now!" I interrupted. We were far enough away for them to not be able to hit us.
