Chapter 9
I rush down the hall, only to be yanked to the side by Eve. I almost scream, but she puts her hand over my mouth. "It's Michael," she whispers. "What?" I exclaim before Eve places her hand over my mouth again. "Be quiet."
She looks at me. "Do you still have your mother's necklace?" I nod. "Good, because you're going to need it," she says as she takes out her own sword. I grab my necklace, pulling it off my neck as I slowly creep towards Michael and another angel, probably around my age.
"Hey, Heaven Boy," I call out. Michael turns around to see me. "Looking for me?" I flick my wrist, and the necklace transforms into a sword. Michael smirks. "Looks like you came prepared this time, princess." I smirk back at him. "And it looks like you didn't."
He chuckles. "Don't get cocky, princess. You still don't stand a chance against me." I smirk. "I beat you last time." "Yeah, only because I was going easy on you," he replies with a smirk. "But this time, I won't hold back."
"What are you doing here? Is God too scared to kill me himself? Is that why he made you bring backup?" Michael glances behind him at Ellidy who accompanied him. "He sent someone with me just to ensure that I don't underestimate you. But don't worry, I'm still going to be the one who defeats you."
I glare at the Ellidy before turning my attention back to Michael. "I'd like to see you try." Michael smirks. "Oh, princess, you have no idea what I'm capable of." "That girl looks more capable than you, and she looks no older than 17." Michael glances back again at Ellidy, who is indeed around my age. "She may look capable, but don't let looks deceive you. She's a rookie compared to me."
"Excuse me?" Ellidy says. Michael turns to look at her. "What? Got something to say, rookie?" "God made me come because he's scared you're going to screw up."
Michael scowls. "Excuse me? First of all, God didn't make you come. He sent you because he wanted to ensure that the princess doesn't get away. Secondly, I've never lost a battle in my entire existence. I don't need any help, rookie."
"She beat you," Ellidy points out. Michael clenches his jaw before responding. "She caught me off guard. It won't happen again." I roll my eyes. "You always have an excuse, don't you? You can't handle the fact that a girl defeated you."
"Watch your tongue, princess," Michael warns, his eyes narrowing. "You may have gotten lucky the last time we fought, but I won't underestimate you again. I'll make sure to put you in your place this time."
Eve steps next to me. Michael glances at Eve before letting out a chuckle. "Ellidy, you take the princess. Eve and I need to talk." Eve raises an eyebrow at Michael's orders. "Michael, not here." Michael looks at her firmly. "Don't question me, Eve. I'm still an archangel, and you need to listen to me." Ellidy smirks. "Don't worry. I can handle the princess."
Michael nods in approval. "I know. Just make sure you don't let her get away. She's more cunning than she looks." Ellidy steps forward, preparing to confront me. "Don't worry, Michael. I'll make sure she doesn't go anywhere."
I step forward, meeting her gaze. "You think you can stop me?" Ellidy gives me a smirk, readying her sword. "I know I can." I smirk back, twirling my own sword. "Bring it on, rookie." Ellidy lunges forward, her sword swinging towards me as we run into another room.
I swiftly sidestep, avoiding her attack and counter with a slash towards her side. She blocks my attack and responds with a swift jab towards my chest. I step back, narrowly dodging her attack. "Careful where you swing that thing, rookie." Her sword gets caught in mine, and they both fly across the room. I stumble back, surprised by the intensity of Ellidy's attacks.
"Whoa, not bad for a rookie," I say, regaining my footing. Ellidy then pins me to the ground. I struggle against her grip, trying to break free. "Hey, get off of me!" Ellidy grins, keeping me pinned to the ground, her face inches from mine. "Not so tough now, are you, princess?"
I kick her, and Ellidy grunts as she's suddenly pinned to the ground. "Hey, that's cheating!" I smirk down at her. "Not so tough now, are you, angel?" Ellidy attempts to break free, but my hold on her is firm. "Get off of me, you little brat!" I reach for my sword. Ellidy continues to struggle under my grip, but her movements are restricted. "No, don't you dare..."
I grasp my sword but pause, looking down at Ellidy. I'm shaking. I want to, but I can't. Something inside me won't let me do it. Ellidy's eyes lock with mine as she senses my hesitation. "You won't do it, will you? Why?" I keep my sword poised, but my grip on it trembles. "I don't know... I just..." My voice trails off.
Ellidy watches me curiously, her expression softening slightly. "You're hesitating. Why?" I stumble with my words. "Just go, okay." Ellidy looks at me questioningly, but then nods. "Alright, I'll go. Just let me up."
I release my grip on her and step back, watching as she gets to her feet. "You're not gonna try and attack me again, are you?" I ask. Ellidy slowly stands up, dusting herself off. "No, I won't. I'm not here to fight you. I was just following orders." I nod. "I know what that's like."
Ellidy glances at me, a hint of understanding in her eyes. "Yeah, we're just pawns in this whole game between Heaven and Hell." Ellidy walks to the doorway to find Michael. I speak up. "See you around, rookie." Ellidy nods, a small smile forming on her face. "Yeah, see you around, princess."
