Chapter 7
Michael was deep in conversation with someone when Ellidy walked in. His eyes flicked toward her, but he quickly returned his attention to the woman in front of him. With a controlled yet exasperated snort, Michael said, "You're so frustrating. You never make things easy, do you?"
The woman grinned slyly, unfazed. "I'll cooperate if you give me what you promised." Michael's expression tightened, his eyes narrowing slightly. "You haven't changed one bit, have you?" There was a flicker of something darker beneath his calm exterior.
Ellidy, growing impatient, rolled her eyes and cleared her throat loudly to get Michael's attention. "Michael, we need to leave. Have you found out where she is yet?" she asked, her tone firm but not harsh.
Michael finally turned to Ellidy, a mix of irritation and satisfaction on his face. "Yes, we have." Ellidy's eyes lit up with anticipation. "So, where are we heading?" she asked eagerly, stepping closer. "We're heading to New York," Michael replied, a slight smile playing on his lips. "To a small shop called Eve's Tea."
Ellidy's grin widened, her excitement palpable. "New York, huh? Sounds like an adventure." Michael nodded, his eyes meeting hers with a look of steely determination. "Let's hope it's worth it. This lead might be the break we've been waiting for."
As they gathered their things and prepared to leave, the woman Michael had been speaking to watched them with a knowing smirk. "Good luck," she called out mockingly. "You'll need it." Ellidy shot her a sharp look but said nothing, focusing on the task ahead. Michael, feeling the tension, placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder. "We'll find her," he said firmly, his voice calm but with an undercurrent of something unsettling.
