chapter 6

A week had passed, and I sat in the training room, my body sore and battered from the relentless training sessions. Every muscle ached, and bruises marked my skin like battle scars. The room, usually a place of silent focus, now felt like a fortress of my struggles. The weight of the upcoming battle loomed over me, a constant reminder of the monumental task ahead.

Eve walked into the room, a confident stride in her step and a smile on her face. Her presence was always a mixture of comfort and challenge. "How are you holding up, princess?" she asked, her tone teasing but her eyes observant.

I laughed, though it came out more as a tired chuckle. "I told you not to call me that," I replied, trying to muster a playful glare.

Eve playfully rolled her eyes. "And yet I still do," she said with a grin. She walked over to me, crossing her arms and giving me a once-over. "You look exhausted."

"I feel exhausted," I groaned, rubbing my sore shoulders. "I didn't think training would be this intense."

Eve chuckled, a sound that was both light and knowing. "You didn't think overthrowing God would be easy, did you?" She sat down next to me on the floor, her demeanor shifting from playful to serious. "It's not going to get any easier, princess."

"I know," I admitted, the weight of her words sinking in. The enormity of our mission felt like a crushing burden.

Eve chuckled again, but there was a softness to it this time. "Good. At least you're not completely delusional." She nudged me playfully, trying to lift my spirits. "You've been making progress though. You're getting stronger and faster with each passing day."

Despite her encouraging words, doubt gnawed at me. "But what if I do fail? What if I'm not strong enough? I don't want to let my family down. I don't want to let my people down." The words tumbled out, raw and unfiltered, as tears welled up in my eyes.

Eve's playful demeanor faded entirely, replaced with a look of genuine concern. She reached out and placed a hand on my shoulder, her touch gentle and reassuring. "Hey, hey," she said softly, her voice a soothing balm to my frayed nerves. "Don't talk like that. You're not going to fail. And you're not going to die. I won't let that happen."

I looked up at her, tears now streaming down my face. "But what if I do? What if I'm not strong enough?"

Eve's expression softened even more, and she pulled me into a comforting hug. Her embrace was warm and steady, a lifeline in the storm of my doubts. "You're not going to fail, princess. You have strength within you that you cannot even fathom," she whispered, her words a promise and a vow.
