Chapter 12

As Ellidy continues to work on the ropes, I glance at Michael, who's dazed and rubbing his head. "Hurry," I urge. "He's going to wake up any second now." The ropes refuse to give, but Ellidy keeps hacking at them. "Almost... there... just... a... little... more..." Suddenly, Ellidy notices my necklace, and a spark of an idea forms in her eyes. "Your necklace, can it transform?" I smile at her. "You're a genius," I say almost breathlessly.

My heart pounds in my chest as she grabs my necklace from around my neck. "Hurry," I urge her, glancing nervously at Michael, who's starting to show signs of regaining consciousness. Ellidy holds the necklace in her hand, the sword materializing. As soon as she puts it against the ropes, the ropes shatter. The ropes finally break, freeing me from my restraints. I stand up, my heart pounding with a mix of relief and adrenaline. "We have to go now," I say, grabbing her hand.

Ellidy hands me back my necklace. I nod, understanding the urgency of the situation. "Okay, let's go." We make our way quickly to the cell's door, careful to watch for any signs of Michael stirring. Just as we reach the doorway, a soft groan comes from behind us. Michael is waking up.

As we turn the corner, we come face to face with a group of angels guarding the hallway. They stare at us in confusion, clearly not expecting me to be free and her to be helping me. One of the angels steps forward, their expression stern. "Stop right there!"

I exchange a worried glance with Ellidy, knowing that we're outnumbered and outmatched. "What do we do?" I whisper to her. "I would suggest you get your sword out now," she says, reaching for a sword on the wall. I nod, pulling out my own sword from the belt around my waist. "Right," I say, holding it firmly in my hand. The angels eye us cautiously, assessing the situation. One of them steps forward, their voice firm.

"Ellidy, what are you doing?" Ellidy glances at the angels, her voice unwavering. "I'm doing what I should've done a long time ago." Ellidy stands her ground, her expression resolute. "I'm done being a pawn in this war. I'm done doing whatever Michael and Heaven tell me to do. I'm choosing my own side."

I grip my sword tightly, my heart pounding in my chest. Beside me, Ellidy also readies herself for a fight, her own sword clutched firmly in her hand. "Are you sure you can handle this?" I ask Ellidy, my voice betraying my trepidation.

She gives me a determined look. "I'm on your side now. I helped you escape, and I'll fight by your side till the end." Her words fill me with both relief and determination. I take a deep breath, steadying my nerves. "Alright then. Let's do this."

The angels unsheathe their own swords, their wings bristling with determination. "You're outnumbered and outmatched," one of them calls out, their voice carrying a hint of smugness. I shoot a glance at Ellidy, noting the resolute look on her face. "We'll see about that," I mutter, my voice filled with quiet determination.

The sounds of metal clashing fill the air as our swords collide with those of the angels. I fend off their attacks with every ounce of strength I have. Beside me, Ellidy fights with remarkable agility and precision. She dodges and counters with a skill that surprises me. In the midst of our fight, I can't help but admire Ellidy's combat prowess. She's graceful and precise, each movement fluid and calculated. Despite the overwhelming odds against us, she's holding her own incredibly well.

In the midst of the battle, my phone starts ringing in my pocket. The sudden sound startles me, interrupting my focus. With my free hand, I somehow manage to pull out my phone, its ringing continuing to fill the air. My fingers fumble to answer the call, the clash of swords still echoing around me. Finally, I manage to answer the phone, the sounds of fighting still surrounding me.

"Mom?" I gasp into the receiver, my voice strained. The sound of my mom's worried voice fills my ear, the words coming in quick, panicked sentences. "Where are you? Are you okay? I've been trying to reach you for hours." I try to speak, but the words come out jumbled and rushed. "Mom, I'm in Heaven, fighting angels. It's complicated, but I'm okay... for now."

I hear my mother gasp on the other end of the line. "Heaven? What on earth are you doing there? It's too dangerous!" I block an angel's attack. "Eve kind of betrayed us for Heaven." My mother's voice crackles through the phone, filled with disbelief. "Eve did what? Are you serious?"

I grimace, the truth about Eve's betrayal still fresh in my mind. "Yeah, you could say that. But that's a long story. Listen, Mom, I can't talk for long. I'm in the middle of a fight right now." My mother's concern is palpable, even through the phone. "In the middle of a fight?! You need to get out of there, now!" I try to reassure her, hoping my words will calm her fears. "Don't worry about me, Mom. I've got backup. I'll be fine, I promise."

I turn my attention back to Ellidy, my focus now split between the phone call and the ongoing battle. "Ellidy, duck!" I call out, urgently. She ducks just in time, avoiding a brutal swing from one of the angels. I lunge forward, stabbing an angel that had been attempting to attack us from behind.

"Mom, I have to go. I'll call you back later. I promise I'll be safe." My mother's voice protests on the other end, filled with worry, but I know I can't keep distracting myself. "Be careful! Please stay safe!" I can't linger, the fight is still raging around us. "I will, I promise. I love you, Mom."
