Epilogue

Kara and Oliver stood side by side as the elevator reached CatCo's floor. Kara felt nervous and anxious inside as they stepped out, directly Cat Grant's office. Oliver Queen didn't give a single interview since he came back, and he has great reasons to it. She was sent to StarCity by her boss, to get Oliver to come and give an exclusive and she got it. On his terms, sure, he couldn't give too much information because of his secret, but it was still huge. She couldn't be happier and more grateful because this was so important to her job, she was glad Oliver understood that and was more than happier to help her.

- Mr. Queen – Cat said as she welcomed Oliver into her office, shaking his hand and smiling widely.

- Miss Grant, nice to meet you – He said as he gave her a brief kiss on her hand. – How are you?

- I'm great now that you're here...Keerah you can get us coffee, chop chop

Kara went to grab their coffee as Oliver just stared at that scene. He sat down on the couch of Cat's office as she sat across from him.

- Thank you for coming, when Keerah told me I couldn't believe it...So, what made the infamous Star City's golden boy to agree for an interview? I'm curious...

- You do an excellent job here; I've been keeping up with it... You did interview Supergirl so... I guess I can trust you.

Kara came back with both coffees and Oliver smiled at her before taking a sip. She murmured a thank you without Cat noticing. Cat gave her the record player and pointed for Kara to start recording.

- So let's begin. You survived 5 years on an island, by yourself...Were you really by yourself?

- Sort of. When I got there, I was rescued by a guy that helped me learn how to survive in extreme situations.

- Who was he?

- I don't remember his name, all I know is that he was there for a while, he was trying to go back home to his daughter. He died a few months later.

Oliver took a deep breath as he remembered Yao Fei and Shado. He told Kara he would give an interview but he couldn't say a lot of details not just because of his activities as the vigilante of StarCity, but also because some of them were way too painful to remember.

- You went into your dad's boat as a rich playboy in a company of your girlfriend's sister. She didn't come back with you, so how did her family take it?

Oliver knew Cat Grant wasn't going to be easy on him. Kara did warn him. But he was ok with it. He knew that many people wanted answers, wanted to understand and if this was the way he could have some control of what was told, he was more than ready to share at least a bit of information.

- It's no news that I was an idiot before the island. – He started, as he reflected on the events that turned his life into literally hell and the impact it caused on his loved ones. – I was entitled, selfish and I ended up hurting people I love and care about. Yes, Sara Lance came with me on that boat. I came back and she didn't. I know my responsibility on this fact, her dad, sister and mom knows. We were two young adults that decided to have an affair and decided to go together on a trip boat that ended up in tragedy. I didn't mean for any of this to happen, but it did. Her family has every right to hate me forever if they want. It's up to them if they forgive me or not. I know I probably wouldn't, to be honest.

Cat had a brief look of surprise on her face because she was so used with people trying to play victim or hide the truth, she didn't expect Oliver was going to be this honest. She was definitely intrigued. Kara kept recording it and listening to that story. Oliver talked to her before doing the interview; he told her he didn't want to keep any secrets from her, not even his past mistakes, so she wasn't surprised at all. All she knew was that Oliver sometimes still had nightmares about it, and severe PTSD. He kept telling her he deserved all of this and that he was still paying for mistakes he did 5 years ago. Kara disagreed about that part, because she knew better than anyone that there was no such thing as perfection. Everyone had a dark side inside, everyone could chose how they wanted to live their lives and move forward: doing good or doing bad, accepting the mistakes and making up for them or pretend they did nothing wrong, and Oliver for sure was doing the first. He knew he did a lot of harm, that he hurt a lot of people and that it had huge consequences, but Kara always tried to remember him that he was human, making mistakes and bad choices were part of the journey, and that he couldn't beat himself up over things forever, the important thing is that he was trying to be a better person, he was being serious about righting the wrongs he and his father did in the past, and that was important.

- I know nothing I do will ever make up for the fact that Sara is not here anymore, and that I hurt people in the way. But I'm doing my best to try. – Oliver completed.

- You said you had to learn to survive extreme situations. Can you mention a few of them?

- Starvation, improvised first aid, extreme cold – He thought about all the times he was tortured or had to kill to survive, meeting Slade and everything that happened there as they tried to go back home. Looking back now, he had no idea how he made it alive. – I had to learn new things everyday to survive in that island.

- Were you alone? All this time?

- No

Kara looked surprised at Oliver because she wasn't expecting he would actually admit it out loud. She knew he wasn't, but Oliver felt like he wasn't ready to get into details and something told her that's what was happening now, by the look he had on his face.

- Who was there with you? – Cat Grant also noticed, but she wasn't making it easy on him.

- No one.

Cat Grant stared curiously at Oliver and waited for him to explain because that for sure made no sense. Kara had a feeling she understood. She knew for a fact he had met people there who trained him, bad people that were there looking for things but he wasn't talking about that kind of company.

- The island is called Lian Yu, that's mandarin for Purgatory. I don't think I need to tell you what that means. Now imagine spending 5 years on a place like this. It's easy to feel like you're done, that you'll never go back to your friends and family. I have a lot of scars to remind me of those moments and how hard it was to just keep going. When you're in a place where nothing good ever happens and its filled with negative energy, when you can tell that horrible things had happened there, you never feel alone. Its heavy and its bad.

- The Oliver that went to that trip was the same Oliver that came back?

- Definitely no. Like I've said, you learn things when survival mode kicks in, you end up not caring about the same things you did before because that's not important. You start seeing things in a different perspective, you learn to survive. Today I see and know I was an idiot. Now I'm someone trying to make things right for those I hurt the most, I'm trying to be a better son, a better brother. I know I have a long path ahead of me, but I'm ready.

- And what are you doing now for that to happen? Since the playboy days are over?

Oliver took a deep breath to answer this one. He could never say he accepted his father mission to help save his city as the hooded vigilante people were calling a lunatic. Neither could he say he was dating Supergirl and that she was inspiring him to become a better person each day, so he had to go with the best next thing.

- I'm spending my energy I used to spend on drinking and partying, into new projects that can help make the city a better place, investing on small business, helping create job opportunities. I know I can't do it all by myself, but every small thing counts.

- Especially when you have Robin Hood wannabe shooting arrows around the city, putting the fear of God on the criminals... Any comments on that? He did save you and your friend the day you came back, right? Did you see him?

- Yes, he did. But I couldn't see his face, I just noticed the hood. I mean, the guy is lunatic, so what to say about that? Not everyone is lucky to have a hero like Supergirl.

- Oh, I know. She's the best. – Cat said, smiling a bit and making Kara avoid eye contact as she got a bit nervous. Oliver just saw Kara's reaction and smiled.

- I agree. She is the best. I bet she could kick the hood's ass.

Kara looked back to Oliver,

- I bet she could – She said as she adjusted her glasses.

- Well she had been seen there, so it might happen, who knows? – Cat said before asking a few more questions to wrap the interview.

She had a small frustrated look on her face, she couldn't take that much of information from him or any juicy story, so there was no reason to drag that interview for another minute. She got up and mentioned for Kara to give her the recorder.

- Ok, Keerah, you can stop by James office and ask him to come see me in ten.

Kara was about to leave when Oliver got up and reached for his hand.

- It was nice to meet you, Kara – He smiled, reaching for her hand to shake.

Kara smiled and shook his hand, politely.

- You to, mr Queen. – She smiled back at him.

He turned to Cat Grant and reached for his hand once again and the moment Cat Grant shook it, he held her hand a bit longer than usual.

- As much as I loved meeting you, miss Grant, I need to give you some advice... From one boss to another, you have a great and competent assistant here, if it wasn't for her I would've never agree with this interview, that's how good she is, so if I were you, I would value her and actually know her first name before someone steals her from you... Because believe me, it can happen.

He nodded, smiled once again at Kara and turned around to leave.

Cat kept staring, not sure about what just happened. Was she being called out on her own office? She looked incredulous.

- He is lucky he's pretty – Cat said as she kept staring at Oliver's back.

Kara just took a look at Cat, trying to keep her comments to herself because she was sure she would get fired. She just smiled and agreed with her head.

Later that day, Kara met Oliver back on her apartment for dinner, since he was returning to StarCity the next morning. He decided to cook for her and she decided it was best for her to just watch and let him be happy at her kitchen.

- Thank you by the way... - She said – About earlier. You didn't have to do that.

- Yes I did. – Oliver said, finishing it all as Kara helped him set the table – Kara you're great at your job and it's clear that woman doesn't appreciate you the way you deserve. How hard it is to get "Kara" right?

- Is not that... She's just...

- Annoying? Rude? – Oliver asked, making Kara laugh – I know you like her... But I don't, I'm sorry.

- It's ok – Kara smiled – I get what you're saying. I just don't believe that's who she actually is.

- What do you mean?

- I think she just puts a brave face because she feels the need to do it. And she doesn't trust easy...

- That I understand, but it's still no excuse to treat her employees as garbage the way she does.

Kara knew Oliver was right, but she also was sure that there was more to Cat Grant than that façade she put on every day.

- It is annoying she calls me Keerah – Kara laughed. She had to admit it, it wasn't hard to call her Kara for once. It felt like she did it on purpose, but Kara had no idea why.

- Well, enough about miss Grant – Kara said as she got up after finishing her dinner – I loved it, you're so good at cooking that I'm this close from never letting you leave – She teased as Oliver also got up, hugging her by the waist.

- I'm tempted – He said as he gave her a peck on the neck – Don't tempt me – He teased

Kara laughed.

- Seriously... The food was amazing. You know your way to a girl's heart... and stomach – She made him laugh and earned a kiss from him.

- You what else is amazing? – He said, holding her waist, bringing her body closer to his.

- What? – She said between their slow kiss.

- You – he finished, fully kissing her this time.

Kara held his hand and brought him to the couch with her. She gave him a little push, making he sit down, straddling his lap right afterwards. Her lips went back to kiss his and they stood a while like that, feeling each other's touch, and showing in their kiss how much they needed each other. Kara felt immediately in cloud 9 and she didn't want to come back down.

Not anytime soon.
