Writers Block

Jessica and Danny bundled up into their winter clothes and took a walk around Central Park. Jessica locked her arms around Danny's. They walked past children ice skating on frozen ponds, families building snowmen, and older couples throwing bird seeds to the pigeons.

"I love mornings like this." Danny says softly

"Hmmm, I do too." Jessica hums

Danny leads them to a park bench and they sit down. Jessica rests her head on Danny and closes her eyes.

"Why are your eyes closed?" He was with a chuckle.

"I'm trying to picture you and I."

"Oh you are? Ha, doing what?"

"Growing old together, feeding birds in the park, with a dog." Jessica continues to picture her and Danny. She keeps her eyes closed with a smile on her face.

"I like the idea of growing old and feeding birds."

"Good." Jessica giggles

Jessica and Danny moved out of the park and into the city. The whole day was spent enjoying the scenery, shops, sights, and the snow falling on the ground. The weather didn't stop them. As they were walking they stopped at Barnes and Nobel to get a coffee. The two of them went their separate ways after sharing a muffin in Starbucks. With their coffees in their hands they scavenged through the huge store trying to find the perfect read.

While Jessica was standing in the novel section Danny walked up behind her with something behind his back.

"Find anything?" She says sensing Danny behind her.

"I found the most amazing book ever! It's a must."

Jessica chuckles then turns to Danny. He held her photography book in his hands with a grin across his face.

Jessica rolls her eyes then kisses him. "You're precious."

"I just can't believe that my girlfriend has a book! Words can't explain how proud I am."

"It still doesn't feel real to me." She turns back to the shelf and searches for a book.

Once the work week began Jessica sat in her apartment alone while Danny was working. It was lonely without him. Jessica tried to take advantage of her break before she had to start working again. She wanted to do something exciting but not one idea popped into her head. She spent the day cleaning, trying new cooking recipes which failed, and here and there she would pull out the camera.

Jessica pulled out her speaker and connected her phone. She blasted her playlist and vacuumed around the house. Her music was interrupted by a text. She shut off the vacuum and ran to see who was texting her.

*Hey Jess, it's David. I was wondering if possibly you can pop into my office today. We need to talk.*

Jessica wiped the sweat off her forehead and sighed. It had been weeks since she last had spoken to David. Jessica replied back with a yes then went to go freshen up.

By noon she was out of the house and in a taxi on her way to see him.

When she got to his office he was patiently waiting for her. He stood up and greeted her with a hug. He seemed delighted to see her.

"I'm so glad you came, please sit. We have lots to talk about!"

"How's the book doing?" Jessica says referring to sales.

"Great! That's the reason I wanted to talk to you... have you considered possibly putting together another one?" He asks

"Gosh, I don't know. I have lots going on. A book isn't my priority right now. Maybe in the summer."

"Our company wants to pay for you to take a trip so you can get new images."

"Are you serious?" Jessica says happily

"Just give us the details and we will set it up."

"Wow! Thank you!"

The room went silent for a few moments.

"How are you?" He says sincerely

"I'm great... and you?"

"I'm wonderful. I met someone in a painting class actually." He chuckles

"How amazing... I'm happy for you."

"Before you leave I have one more question to ask... have you worked on Left Behind?"

It had been months since Jessica even picked up her computer and worked on her story. With Danny and the new living situation she didn't have time. She didn't find a point in finishing it either. It was as if she had given up on in.

Jessica shakes her head and sighs. "No"

"You should, that story is too good to not publish Jessica. Take it from me, a publisher!"

"It's not about the money though."

"I understand that... but think about all the people that would enjoy it."

Jessica nods then stands up.

"I was great seeing you, David. We will keep in touch."

"Great!"

When Jessica got back home she couldn't get her story out of her mind. David reminded her how hard she had worked on it and how amazing it was. She never thought of that towards her own writing. He was the only one that knew about the story anyways.

She sat in her studio in front of her laptop. She had a fresh page waiting for her but she was stuck... writers block. The biggest enemy of them all. Jessica was able to get away from the computer when Danny got home.

"Hey, babe I'm home." Danny says walking into the studio.

Jessica quickly hides all of her novel notes and shuts her laptop.

"Hey, you're home! Dinner should be ready soon." Jessica gets up and wraps her around around Danny's neck.

"Perfect... gosh do I miss you during the day."

Jessica takes Danny's hand and they go into the kitchen to have a conversation with some red wine.

"What were you doing in there?" Danny says

"Oh, just some work. Good news! My publisher David, his team wants to pay for me to go on a trip so I can get new images for a new photography book. I can go anywhere, for free!" Jessica jumps up and down in excitement.

"No way? That's great!"

"I say if I do want to take the offer, save the trip for summer."

"Good idea. Wow, I'm so happy for you! My job just sounds average compared to yours!"

"That's not true! You get to do cool stuff with eyes! That's not average."

"Ha, well my boss doesn't give me a free trip to wherever."

2:30am-

Jessica tossed and turned until she woke up in the middle of the night. She laid in bed for a few minutes until she hopped out and ran into her studio. She closed the curtain and turned on a lamp. She then flipped open her laptop and began typing. The words flowed easily out of her brain and onto the once blank file.

....Then finally, after years of no communication, Devin and Janey finally held each other in each other's arms. There was not only a sense of happiness but a sense of relief. Knowing that they had their true love right in front of their eyes was such a powerful feeling. A feeling that could never be put into words. The best was yet to come.

Jessica finished off the chapter at four in the morning. She was passed out in her bean bag that was placed in the middle of the studio.

By time Danny had woken up and Jessica was not in bed with him he searched around the apartment trying to find her. When he came across the studio with the lamp still on he saw Jessica laying peacefully.

He walked over to her and kneeled down to her level. He moved the hair out of her face and kissed her cheek.

Jessica woke up and turned to Danny. Him being her first sight in the morning was so refreshing. She grabbed his cheeks and kissed him passionately.

"Whoa, good morning to you." He says after Jessica breaks the long kiss.

"Danny, words can't describe how happy I am to be with you... I've spent years wondering if you were the only man I could ever love. I was right, you are."
