Birth Class
"Jessica Phyllis Lange! You have a name for her but won't tell us!" Jane exclaims
Jessica rolls her eyes "Can you keep your mouth shut! I want it to be a surprise. Besides, I'm not totally sure yet. I have to meet her."
Jessica starts folding baby clothes and putting them into the dresser.
Jessica and her sisters were decorating the nursery now that it was painted.
"I can't wait another four weeks! Just go into labor now. I need to know!" She whines
"Can it, Jane. You didn't tell anyone Lillian's name until she was born. Now you know the pain." Ann crosses her arms and looks at her sister sternly
She rolls her eyes and huffs "Fine, whatever."
"Jess, you know what I was thinking?"
"Hmm?" Jessica turns to Ann and smiles
"We should hang up a picture of you and Danny somewhere in here." She says looking at the empty walls
"Aww, that would be cute." Jane adds
Jessica shakes her head. "I don't know..."
"You don't have to... but I think it would be nice."
"You think?" Jessica asks nervously
"Yeah."
Jessica hesitated at first. All of her and Danny's pictures were pushed away somewhere. Jessica really didn't want to have to look at a picture of them all the time. It sounded bad, but it was really just hard for her to see what they once where.
But, Jessica agreed.
"Do you have any we could hang?"
"Maybe... let me go look." She says leaving the room.
Jessica goes into her bedroom closet and pulls down a box filled with framed pictures. She sets them down on the bed and looks at all of them. She couldn't help but cry. It was a lot to see all of these pictures of the couple dating back to high school.
She finally picked one.
"This is so cute. Maybe we should hang it right here." Jane says pointing to a spot near the dresser.
Jessica nods and let's her sisters do what she wants. She walks over to the rocking chair to sit down and take a break. She had been so achey.
"Are you okay, Jessica?"
Jessica pauses for a moment and looks around.
"This is all so crazy... it feels like just yesterday he was here. Then, I found out I was pregnant. Now, I have a month to go until I meet her. It's weird putting together a nursery and hanging up little baby clothes." Jessica catches her breath and chuckles
"I'm going to be a mom. Almost nine months and I still haven't wrapped my head around all this." She shakes her head, and then suddenly the tears come again. She didn't want to cry, but she couldn't help it. This was the normal now.
Both of her sisters give her a hug and laugh at all of her emotions. They tried their best to brighten the mood.
"Oh Jess! You're going to be a great mama. We can't wait to see you holding your little girl. It's amazing how fast time flies when you're expecting." Jane says
"She's going to be here so soon!" Ann adds
Jessica cries even harder. "I know!"
"I didn't mean to make you more upset. This is all exciting!" Ann says trying to fix herself
Jessica wipes her tears and tries not to cry. She began to laugh. "I know! I just can't seem to help it anymore. Everyone makes me cry!"
"Welcome to our world." Jane says
"I'm never going to sleep, I'll be so tired, drained, overwhelmed. But it will all be worth it, right?" Jessica asks
Ann and Jane look at each other and clench their teeth. "Mhm" They say with hesitation
"Stop!" Jessica yells
"We are kidding! Of course it's all worth it!"

36 week appointment-
Jessica went to her appointment one day during the week. She was hoping for good news when she went. Now that her due date was getting closer she was hoping that her body would be getting ready to have the baby.
"Ready to see the baby?" The doctor says
Jessica nods and pulls up her shirt. "I'm more than ready!" She chuckles
"Well, today I'm only going to be showing you a picture. We aren't that close to the real deal yet. How about a 3D ultrasound today?" He asks
"You can do that?" She asks
"Of course. I'll show you."
The doctor puts on the gel and moves the dopler around. Jessica was able to see her little girl moving around.
"She's gotten a lot bigger."
"She has. She is five pounds i'd say. She has a little bit to go, though. She is a tiny baby."
"Is that bad?"
"No, it's normal. Here's your 3D picture!" He says
Jessica looks at the monitor and examines her baby's profile. She had so many familiar features. Jessica saw a lot of Danny in her little girl. The nose, the lips, everything. It was incredible. This ultrasound gave Jessica such a clear view of what her baby looks like.
"Wow, she's so cute!" Jessica tears up
"Well don't cry!" He says
"Sorry! I can't help it."
"Everything looks good, but I'm going to have to schedule you for a external cephalic version." He wipes her off and begins to type on his computer.
Jessica widens her eyes and sits up. "What the heck is that?" She says with concern
"She isn't head down yet. I have a feeling she doesn't plan on moving. You're carrying high. If we want to stick to your birth plan I'd like to try to move her."
"So you're going to move her down?" Jessica raises her eyebrows
"I'll apply pressure to the abdomen and try to
Flip her, yes."
She covers her face. "That sounds painful."
"You'll be fine. Just try to rest up. You'll want it. Take it easy until birth. Have you taken any classes?"
"Classes for what?"
"Birthing classes. Breastfeeding, baby care. There's so many."
Jessica gasps "no! I meant to but totally forgot! I've been busy with the move and everything. I'm so sorry."
The doctor chuckles "Id suggest trying to get into one. They're very helpful."
"I will, thank you."

A couple days later Jessica was able to get into a birthing class. It was suppose to help and prepare her. There was a lot she'd be learning, it wasn't all going to be about just the birth. Jessica was glad she was able to get in. Dorthy was going to take her. None of her sisters could because it was a work day. But she needed a partner.
When Jessica came over to her mothers to pick her up she saw Dorthy laying on the couch, wrapped up in a blanket.
"Mom?" Jessica asks
Dorthy wakes up and holds her head. "Oh Jessica! I'm so sorry."
Dorthy had looked terrible. Jessica could tell she wasn't feeling her best.
"Mom, are you okay?" She says coming up to her.
"Stay away! I'm sick! I meant to call, Jessica I can't go today!" She says with sadness. Her voice was almost gone and her nose was runny.
Jessica sighs "That's okay. I can cancel." She says backing away.
"No, don't! George!" She yells with the last of her voice
"Yeah?" He says running down the stairs
"Go with your sister to her birthing class."
Jessica and George look at each other with wide eyes. "What?" The both say in sync.
"She needs a partner. Go!" She says sternly
"No, mom it's fine. I can go another day."
"Damn it Jessica that baby could pop out any day. Today is your only chance. Just go!" She lays back down and covers her face.
Both siblings look at each other awkwardly and cringe a bit. "Mom-" George says
"Go!" She points to the door

George listened to his mother and went with Jessica. He wasn't thrilled.
"George, if you want I can drop you off at a friends and mom will never know. You don't have to come."
As much as he wanted to take the offer he knew Jessica needed this and he wanted to be a good brother.
"No, it's fine."
Jessica chuckles "This is going to be interesting." She says parking the car.
//-//
When they go in they start with the basics. How to change a diaper, hold a baby, feed a baby both with a bottle and breast feeding, then ways to wash your baby, how to burp the baby, and many other things.
George felt so out of place. Jessica did too. There were all of these older women with their husbands. Jessica was a younger girl, without a husband. Instead she had her little brother. George followed along and helped Jessica.
Then, after learning the basics they go into another room to do birth exercises.
They started the class by a nurse going over the stages of birth and describing it. George was horrified when a video was shown. Jessica was too.
"Jess, this is scary as hell." He whispers
Jessica couldn't help but laugh, loudly. Everyone looked at her.
"Jess? Why are you laughing?" He whispers harshly
"George, that's going to happen to me. I'm going to die!" She says
"Don't laugh about dying!"
She laughs some more then covers her mouth. "Sorry" She whispers
//-//
When the class was over Jessica and George dashed out of the class laughing.
"George!" She says hoping into the car.
"Holy shit Jessica I'm so sorry" He says trying to catch his breath.
"That was terrible!" She says
"It was... Jess, what are you going to do?" He asks
She shrugs her shoulders "I don't know..." she says with sadness
Her mood shifted so quickly. George wasn't used to this.
"Hey, are you okay?" He asks
"I'm going to be all alone. I can't that."
"Yes you can! Like the lady said- 'your body will open up like a flower and go through the beautiful process on its own'." He says mocking her
Jessica laughed at his impression and hugged her brother. "Thank you for coming." She says
"Of course... you got this, Jess. I know you do."
