Prologue
Authors note: This is my second story that I will continue on this profile, the other is "Their flower"; It takes place a long while after the war with the main characters descendent, so go check it out! It doesn't matter what order you read these two books in, but any other book I write will have a place in the story line.
"Olive, hurry up and grab that bag!" mother shouted loudly, stuffing essential food and water into another rucksack. I quickly grabbed the bag and instantly passed it to mother, shaking with fear. The war had gone to pieces with new beings arising, of which we all believed to be myths. "Olive, take your sister and go get in the car" A two month year old baby was passed down to me, screaming to have her mother back. It was the first time that I had ever held Amelia, and I knew that it wouldn't be the last.
I slipped my pink flip- flops on and rushed out the door. I was only twelve and didn't fully understand what was happening. All I knew was that Daddy had gone off to the army, and we had to leave quickly or bad men were going to come for us. My sister continued to cry, tears streaming down her full rosy cheeks. As much as I tried to shush her, I knew that it was useless. She only wanted her mummy.
And so did I.
As we neared the car, I spotted two figures in the distance walking towards us. I knew better than to get close, so I ran around the car and behind a small tree. That is what mother had told me to do... run. Luckily, the babies cries had slowed. Instantly, an alarm set off down the road, a signal to say we were under attack. Our village was never under attack, so the shock it brought me was to no surprise.
I watched as the two tall men strolled into our house, as if nothing was wrong. Maybe they were mothers friends? Maybe they had come to help? But before me and the baby could get up from our spot, a scream was heard. Mothers scream, I was sure of it. No other women had a voice that firm.
Tears soon trailed down my face as I held my sister close, silent sobs escaping my mouth. How they hadn't gotten me would always be a mystery. Maybe they were oblivious... or maybe they left me for a reason. And I knew that reason;
To fight.
I know its crap, but give a girl a break, I have just gone back to school and am super tired!
Mia.
