Epilogue

"Honey I love you, that's all she wrote"

"Ophelia" - The Lumineers

Bucky never thought he would have to bury Ophelia twice.

Last time he had been so devastated he hadn't been there for the process, but he had visited the grave once before he went into cryo. This time he watched as they lowered her wrapped body into the ground. Of everyone there, the only people who were crying were M'Baku and his two children. He held one in each massive arm, both clinging to him as they cried over the loss of their Aunty O-fee-lee-a.

Sam stood beside Bucky again, another funeral where the two came together, brought there by loss. It felt like a funeral for Ophelia and for Steve. Ophelia coming back had been Steve's last attempt at making everyone happy, giving everyone a chance at life. And now that she was gone, it felt as though the remnants of him were gone too.

But Bucky would never forget Ophelia. He would never forget how she made him feel.

A few Wakandan's had gathered simply for the sake of being there, perhaps to show solidarity, to show support for those who needed it. It was a devastating loss for few people, as so few had known Ophelia. A traditional song started up, a few of the witnesses singing quietly at first, their voices harmonious.

Bucky stepped up to the grave, all his journals bound together by a ribbon. He looked at it one last time. Some with their covers torn, some with pages sticking out as they ripped out and were shoved hastily back in. He knelt down and put them on top of her body.

"Goodbye, O."

He rose from the grave, which was now being filled in, one shovelful at a time.

"I'm sorry," Sam said as Bucky stood beside him now.

Bucky said nothing, but turned to Sam, and nodded at him with a serene smile.

He was going to live the life O wanted him to.
