Grandfather's Paradox

(Inspired by the short fic “Balloon” on AO3 written by KiraHeartilly)

Black Gold watched as Prognosticator, Holly, Cockatrice, The Antlered Viper, and ShadowMoth entered the room.

“Thanks guys, I wanted to do something and I want to know what would happen if I did it.” The cat-horse heroine said.

“What is that, exactly?” ShadowMoth asked her.

“You’ll see. For this to work,” She nodded to Holly, “you need to draw a red balloon.”

Holly nodded and grabbed some art supplies from Rosie’s desk. Once done, she showed the picture to her twin sister.

“Prognosticator, I need you to use Burrow now. Everyone sans Holly, follow me.” Black Gold said.

“Burrow!” Prognosticator called out. As directed, everyone except Holly entered the Burrow.

Once everyone was in, Rosie turned to Cockatrice. “Use Second Chance, please.”

“Second Chance!” Cockatrice called out.

Black Gold  turned to Prognosticator, handing him a note. “Go back in time and give this to Holly.”

Prognosticator nodded, and entered a nearby portal.

Exiting on the other side of it, he handed the note to Holly wordlessly, before the Past Black Gold could even open her mouth.

The note had a simple instruction on it.

‘Draw a Green Balloon’

And Holly followed that instruction, showing both the Past Black Gold and Prognosticator the picture.

Prognosticator nodded to Black Gold.

“Cockatrice!” Rosie said.

“Second Chance!” She used her power.

Black Gold turned to Prognosticator, handing him a note. “Go back in time and-”

“Wait,” Cockatrice said, placing her hand on her shoulder.

Rosie smiled. “Alright, let's go back.”

They exited Burrow to see the sight of a very confused Holly.

Rosie picked up the drawing, and looked at it.

“....ow. That makes my head hurt.” She commented. “...Hey boys.” She turned to ShadowMoth and the Antlered Viper, before holding up the picture to them. “What color is this, exactly?”

The two men looked at the photo, confused as to what was going on.

THUD.

THUD.

“SH*T!” Black Gold exclaimed, kneeling down to them and checking their pulses. Thankfully, they both had pulses. She sighed in relief. She didn't accidentally make a memetic kill hazard.

Prognosticator sighed, shaking his head while facepalming. “Rosie, never ask me and Cockatrice to divide by zero ever again. Also, I recommend stuffing that balloon picture somewhere only you can get to it.”

“Noted. Someone go get these two to med bay.” Black Gold said as she put the balloon into her safe.

What color was that balloon, anyways?
