Chapter 8. Hesitation.*
No matter how many times I changed things in this chapter, it still sucks, so sorry for that.
Kaira's POV.
''Where is Konan?''
''She's with Pein in Amegakure.'' Mom anwsered. ''They need to lead the village, why did you ask?''
I let out a sigh and rubbed my temples annoyed. ''I'm bored, and Izuna and Suki are both on a mission and Obito and Itachi aren't here either and dad is busy.'' I replied. I didn't like to train by myself, and all the people I usually train with aren't here or don't have time right now.
Mom sighed and dropped a plate in the sink and dried her hands with a towel. ''Then will you do some groceries for me? I'm not feeling very well, and I still have other things to do.''
I took a better look at her and noticed the tired look in her eyes, and her face was paler than usual, but why did she ask me? There are people in the base who would do it happily for her.
''Why me? Why don't you ask Kuri?''
Mom rolled her eyes. ''Kuri did do that for me already last week, and since you are bored anyway, why don't you just do it?''
''Fine.'' I grumbled. ''What do you need?''
Izuna's POV.
I let go of his wrist and his arm dropped to the ground, and kept lying there motionless. The gash in his chest was huge, but his blood wasn't dry, so he must have been killed today. Juro was already the third spy who has been killed this month, and I have seen the body of one of them. That spy has cut deeply across the chest too, just like Juro now. This couldn't be a coincidence. Someone is slaughtering our spies, but why? Why didn't he attack the members of Akatsuki, the ones left that is. Hidan and Kakuzu were killed by Konoha ninjas, and Sasori by his own grandmother.
I stood up and looked down at the corpse. It was a nasty sight. Blood was all over the place, and Juro's eyes were wide open. I gazed around the room, looking for things I could take back to the base, and took all the money and some of Juro's belongings before I left the small hideout where Juro always stayed at and made my way back home.
Sasuke's POV.
I opened my eyes, and immediately noticed that I was alone the room. I remembered what happened just before I went to sleep. Juugo was angry, and the Cursed Seal had activated. But where are they now? Probably looking around the town or something. I pulled the blanket off me, and carefully stood up. The pain was less, but it was still there. Kaira really was a bad healer, but even though Karin healed me as well, I still felt some pain. I chuckled slightly and let out a sigh and got changed. I left the inn we had been staying at and just walked through the town.
I looked at the many shops, but froze when I saw a familiar person. What was she doing here? I got the feeling she was stalking me. Everywhere I went, she was there too! But this was my chance to get some answers. I waited until Kaira left the shop and she sealed the bags with food inside a scroll, probably because it would be easier to carry, and she walked towards the entrance of the village. I followed her. Confronting her in the middle of the town wouldn't be such a great idea.
Kaira left the town, and walked into the woods. I smirked, but froze when I heard her voice. ''I know you have been following me, Sasuke, you can come out now.''
I grunted and appeared in front of her. She looked rather annoyed, but I shrugged it off. I wanted to know everything. She was very skilled, and she didn't have a head protector, so she didn't belong to any ninja village, while she obviously was a ninja. Then I would think she belongs to the Akatsuki.. And since she is an Uchiha, it made sense too. The only Uchihas left, were Itachi, Madara and I, and Madara and Itachi are in the Akatsuki.
''What village do you live in, or are you an Akatsuki?'' I asked her, immediately getting straight to the point. Kaira sighed. ''Sasuke, I don't belong to the Akatsuki, nor I am loyal to a village.''
Her face didn't show any signs of lying, and my eyes narrowed. She didn't wear an Akatsuki cloak, not now and she didn't wear one the previous times we met, but I couldn't help being suspicious about her.
"You look already a bit better." Kaira commented.
"You suck at healing."
Kaira glared at me and grunted. "I thought I told you I wasn't a healer! I'm not a medical ninja and the best I can do is healing a scratch, what did you honestly expect from me?'' she asked annoyed.
I rolled my eyes, and snorted. ''What are you doing here anyway? Stalking me? I see you everywhere I go.''
Kaira raised an eyebrow, and put her hands on her hips. ''Listen Sasuke, I am not stalking you. I have better things to do than to waste my time following you all over the place.'' she mumbled, looking rather annoyed. ''Now if you don't mind, I'm going home.''
She turned around, but I grabbed her wrist, and grabbed the handle of my katana with my other hand. ''You are answering some questions first.''
Kaira's POV.
I heard Sasuke draw his katana, and I looked at him from the corner of my eyes. ''Sasuke, you know you can't win from me in your current state.''
''Then why didn't you kill me the previous time we met?''
I smirked. I had multiple reasons for that. He was amusing me. He was able to put up a good fight, so I wanted a fair fight. My fun would be over in an instant if I killed him right there and then. But if we fight, then I still wouldn't kill him. The Uchiha clan is already almost extinct, and killing Sasuke won't really help saving the clan from its downfall. ''I already told you that, you don't remember anymore?'' I questioned. ''Anyway, I will answer your questions, if you want that so badly.''
It was not like I had something better to do at the base anyway, and maybe then Sasuke wouldn't point his katana at me, and demanding me to answer every question anymore. I understand why he wanted to know so badly. I would do the same thing if I were in his place. It's confusing when a relative suddenly appears out of nowhere, and you don't know why, where from, and how. Sasuke thought for years that he, Itachi and Madara were the only ones left, and then he suddenly encounters me and finds out I'm an Uchiha too.
***
I answered almost every questions Sasuke asked with a lie. I know Sasuke isn't dumb. But he couldn't read me, he couldn't tell whenever I was lying or not, the only one who could do that was dad. But Sasuke had a mask that was hard to decipher too, but it wasn't impossible to do it.
Anyway, I was done with Sasuke playing detective here. I knew he didn't believe me, but he didn't attack me either. He did attack me before, but that was before he knew I was an Uchiha too. I knew he only threatened me and didn't attack me because I was an Uchiha, just like him. He doesn't kill me for the same reason I didn't kill him. I knew he wants to kill Itachi, but Itachi was responsible for killing his whole clan, and I wasn't. I hardly knew anything about it until Sasuke was so kind to tell me about it. There are only 8 left; Madara, Itachi, Sasuke, Izuna, Suki, Rai, Shisui and I, and we both don't want any less Uchiha, only Sasuke wants Itachi dead, but I didn't.
There aren't many Uchihas left, so I wouldn't kill more than necessary. It's not like it's necessary to kill Itachi. He's a really kind person, but I never thought he would do something as horrible as killing his own family, but still.. I don't think Itachi deserves to die. He's one of my senseis and he taught me a lot of things.
Alright, I don't have any time to stick around staring at grass. I stood up, immediately catching Sasuke's attention.
Sasuke's POV.
I looked at Kaira from the corners of my eyes. I couldn't help but keep thinking she's an Akatsuki, it just made so much sense! She kept denying it, and I couldn't tell if she was lying or not.
I didn't know what to do. I couldn't kill her. The Uchiha clan is already almost extinct, and I don't want to make it worse. I wanted to restore the Uchiha clan, not destroy it. I guess I would just let her go. I knew I would see her again someday, because I will reunite the Uchiha clan. I know it will be impossible to convince Madara to come, but I didn't want him to be a part of the clan, when he'll only lead it to its downfall again.
I was relieved. I was confused at first. Kaira suddenly appeared, and it was obvious she was an Uchiha, but I had never seen nor heard of her before. It is good to know there are other Uchihas out there, knowing that I am not alone. The chance to save the Uchiha clan suddenly got bigger.
I looked at Kaira again, and couldn't help but feel comfortable around her. This may be the third time we met, but I had the feeling it was the fiftieth time. She was like me, only with a different past, that is unknown to me. She acted like me, she talked like me. Even if I let her get away now, I hope we will see each other again someday, only then on different terms, and I somehow knew Kaira felt the same.
We don't trust each other, and yet we are sitting on the grass together.
''Sasuke.'' Kaira spoke up as she stood up.
''Hn.''
''Sasuke, I don't know what you are up to, but I-'' '' ''Sasuke-kun!!'' a voice I didn't want to hear any time soon interrupted Kaira, and Kaira let out a grunt. Why does Karin always have to come when I am talking to Kaira? She really begins to annoy me lately, and I can't stand her. Ignoring and insulting her doesn't work, and she just can't leave me alone.
I stood up, and noticed Kaira already had disappeared. Of course. Why didn't she just stay, she isn't afraid of Karin, is she? I guess she just saw her chance to get away unnoticed, again.
Karin was coming closer, and she jumped at me and wrapped her arms around my neck and her legs around my waist. ''Sasuke-kun! Sasuke-kun! I was so worried when you weren't in the inn! I thought something happened to you!''
I rolled my eyes and pushed her face away from mine. ''I'm fine, I can take care of myself.'' I scoffed.
Soon, Suigetsu and Juugo came too, and we went back to the inn. We would stay there one day more and then we would head to the nearest Akatsuki hideout.
Kaira's POV.
I placed the scroll on the table in the kitchen, but mom wasn't here. I raised an eyebrow and decided to look for her. I thought she said she was too busy to buy some groceries herself? I left the kitchen and walked through the hallways. I heard Rai and Shisui scream, and I rolled my eyes. Were they at it again? They were so childish..
A door suddenly opened and mom came out of the room, but her eyes widened when she saw me. ''K-Kaira..''
I narrowed my eyes at her. Something was off. I froze when I saw blood on her fingers, and when mom noticed my stare, she hid her hands behind her back. ''Why did it take so long?'' she asked softly.
''I looked around the village.'' I lied, and mom nodded. ''Suki is back, and she asked for you, maybe you should find her?''
''Yeah... I will.'' I murmured as I walked past her. I looked over my shoulder and saw her red fingertips again. What was she doing? What happened?
**************
Like I said, it sucks.. and sorry for the long wait.. I was just unsure about this chapter, but decided to update this chapter anyway..
