Chapter 28.
Remember that I once said that I changed something in one of the first chapters? For the ones who don't know what I changed, it's the way Kaira, Izuna and Suki got their Mangekyou Sharingan. You'll find out the rest in the chapter :)
Sasuke's POV.
I watched Kaira as she was lying on her bed, her eyes closed., even though she wasn't asleep. I was sitting on the edge of the bed. We've been in her room for a while now, neither of us saying anything. It wasn't an awkward silence, but not a comfortable one either. ..Things.. happened between us, and we may be acting like nothing happened, but it's bothering us both.
But that's not the only thing that was bothering me. Kaira's eyes.. her Mangekyou Sharingan.. How did she get it? Since the first time I saw it I have been wondering who she killed to obtain it. The person closest to you... Has Kaira suffered a trauma after witnessing the death of someone close to her, or did she kill that person herself?
I can hardly believe there were other people beside her family that were close to her. I can tell she only cares about her siblings and parents. The rest of the family didn't really matter to her. Only Itachi then, he was important to her..
Who would be more important than her family?
''Kaira..''
She opened one of her eyes and looked at me. ''Hmm?''
''How did you get your Magekyou Sharingan?''
Now Kaira opened both eyes, and sat up. ''Why do you want to know?''
I frowned at her. ''Is it a secret or something?''
Kaira sighed. ''No.. If you really want to know, I'll tell you. It's nothing special though.'' Kaira crossed her legs. ''Dad awakened it.''
Madara awakened her Mangekyou Sharingan..? ''That's impossible. You can't awaken a Mangekyou Sharingan unless-'' ''I wasn't done yet.'' Kaira cut me off, a sly smirk forming on her lips. ''Like I said, my father awakened it. His genjutsu is.. very realistic.. He put me under a genjutsu without saying anything to me. I didn't see the difference between real life and his genjutsu back then, so I believed everything I saw..'' Kaira trailed off, her smirk disappearing. I wonder what she did after she found out it was all a genjutsu..
''I was terrified..'' she whispered. ''Seeing her die like that, in such cruel way. I believed she had died. It all seemed so real.. That's how I and my siblings got our Mangekyou.. I ignored dad for a few days after he did that to us. I was so angry he would do such a thing. I barely use the Mangekyou Sharingan anyway, so why awaken it? It's only trouble anyway.''
Kaira sighed and pulled her knees to her chest, and I clenched my fists. Doesn't she realize Madara is just using her? He awakened her Mangekyou so she can use it for his sake. I believe that Madara doesn't see Kaira as her daughter, but as one of his puppets. She has to do missions for him, to help him reach his goal, whatever that may be.
''Who was it?'' I asked. ''The one that died in the genjutsu?''
Kaira cringed slightly and dug her nails in her legs. ''Mom..'' She whispered. ''She is the person most important to me..''
A long silence followed after. I didn't understand how Madara could do something like that to her. Just to activate the Mangekyou. After I killed Itachi, when Madara told me everything, I felt horrible, empty, helpless. I killed the only family I had left, thinking he was the bad guy. But to see your own mother die.. Kaira must have felt desperate. Not being able to do anything while seeing the ones you love die, that's just a terrible expierence.
I raised my hand and put it one her knee, squeezing softly. ''Let's go eat something, it's already late..''
We missed supper for sure. Not that everybody eats together at the same time, but Miyu, Madara, Suki and Izuna always ate together. Kaira would join them as well sometimes, for so far I know.
Just when I was about to stand up, the door was slammed open, and Suki stormed into the room. That look on her face.. I've never seen her so serious, and I knew immediately that something had happened.
''Kaira..'' Suki said coldly. ''We have a mission. Get ready, we're leaving in ten minutes. Be sure to be at the entrance by then.''
Before Kaira could say anything, Suki already left. I heard Kaira curse softly before she got off the bed.
Kaira's POV.
It's been a long time since I saw Suki this serious, so I knew something was going now. I opened the closet and took out a belt, and put it around my waist before I grabbed my katana and attached it to the belt. I also took my pouch with shuriken and kunais, attaching it the my belt as well.
''Sasuke.. You can better go look for your team.'' I spoke as I tied my hair in a high ponytail. ''Or else they'll think you're siding with us instead of with them.''
I heard Sasuke hum mockingly, but then I felt a cold hand on my shoulder. ''Be careful.'' he muttered before he turned around.
I couldn't help but smile softly as he left my room.
''I will.''
Suki's POV.
I explained everything about our mission to Kaira while heading to our destination. Kuri and Rai should have been back by now already, but since they weren't, dad told us to go look for him. Normally, he would wait till their return, but since we lost already many members, he was more careful and told us to go look for him. We couldn't lose anyone anymore. Then we would only be less powerful, even though Kuri and Rai aren't that strong.
Izuna would be coming back soon as well, but we didn't need to worry about him. Izuna was the strongest of us three, even though he was not the smartest. He fooled around a lot, but would be serious if needed.
''Suki, wait.''
I stopped almost instantly as Kaira spoke those words, and looked at her. ''What's wrong?''
''I sense killing intent.'' Kaira whispered. ''Don't let down your guard. Kuri and Rai must have encountered them as well.''
I nodded and swallowed thickly. Killing intent.. I could sense it now as well. I took a deep breath. I've only killed someone once, but never did it again. It was horrible, and my hand couldn't stop shaking after. I didn't want to kill someone ever again. I'm not as merciless as Kaira when it came to killing. I disliked killing people, and I disliked violence, but I couldn't possibly run away from it all. I was willing to fight if that meant protecting the ones I love.
''Suki, watch out!''
I was snapped out of my thoughts and quickly unsheathed my katana to block an enemy attack.
''Didn't I tell you not to let your guard down!'' Kaira yelled as she grabbed her own katana as well. ''There are only two of them, so let's get this over with.''
As Kaira clashed swords with the other shinobi, I looked at the man in front of me. The determined look in his eyes told me he wouldn't hesitate to kill me. I tightened my fingers around the handle of my katana and swung it at him, making sure not to inflict a severe wound. Just making him unable to fight was enough to me.
I managed to cut him, even though it was only a small cut. He definitely didn't expect me to move this fast. The man took a knife out of his pouch and held it firmly in his hand.
Kaira's POV.
The shinobi screamed loudly as I slayed him, pushing my katana into his chest. His limp body fell to the ground and I grunted. I couln't deny he was pretty skilled, but he was far too slow, so our fight ended pretty quickly.
I took a glance at Suki, and saw her opponent lying on the ground, still breathing. ''Suki.'' I called her. ''Finish him.''
We couldn't let anyone live. He might call for backup. Suki clenched her jaw, and raised her katana. Her hand was shaking, and I sighed. She still can't, huh? Suki just doesn't understand. ''Kill him, Suki. We don't have time for this.''
Suki looked at me, looking slightly frightened. ''I.. I can't..'' she whispered. ''I can't kill him..''
''Do it.'' I hissed. ''Now.''
Suki cringed at my voice. I didn't mean to scare her, she just needs to get over that fear and just take that person's life. Suki glared at me, tears forming in her eyes. ''I can't kill someone, Kaira!"'
I growled and let out an annoyed sigh. Maybe I should just do it myself. I was about to walk at Suki, when I saw the man behind her standing up, a knife in his hands. My eyes widened and I quickly took a kunai out of my pouch and threw it. Suki gasped when the kunai flew next to her head through the air, stabbing the man in his shoulder. He groaned and fell to the ground again. I made my way to them and pushed Suki out of the way. Placing my foot on the ring of the kunai, I stamped it into his shoulder. The man screamed, and I silenced him with my katana, killing him. After I was sure he wasn't breathing anymore, I turned around and grabbed Suki's arm harshly, pulling her towards me.
Suki whimpered and I glared at her. ''We're criminals, Suki!'' I yelled. ''It's kill or be killed! We have no choice!''
I released her and began to walk away, continuing my search for Kuri and Rai.
