• Part 14 •

It has been forever, oh my Mavis... I hope you guys still keep up with the book despite my horribly slow updates... I am trying to get back into the swing of things though, plus over the summer and up to now I have been getting new ideas! And the reason I haven't been updating much is not only that I have been busy but people in my life have taken a toll on me emotionally--it just sucks. But now my writing is my outlet again so updates should be going back to normal!

I poked around and waited for Natsu to fall asleep on the couch, and only when I was sure he was completely asleep did I grab his phone from the coffee table. I unlocked it and found Zeref's cell number. I quickly punched it into my phone and hit the call button as I raced to the door. As the phone rang I grabbed my keys and quietly opened the front door. Right as it closed Zeref answered.

"Natsu?" his voice was unreadable.

"I-It's actually Lucy. Natsu... he told me about you. He said that...that if I got interrogated by you that everything would be okay." I tried my best to speak with confidence, but I couldn't help feeling meek. A soft chuckle came from the other end of the line.

"So you really want to do this, huh?" He sounded smug as he spoke, more so than when we where at Igneel's.

"Yes," I say determinedly. "And nothing could change my mind."

"Alright, meet me by the high school, we'll talk more there." He hung up abruptly and I pulled my phone from my ear. I walked pointedly to my car and got in, turning on the engine and backing out quickly. I knew Natsu might have woken up so I sped a little down the road. As I approached the school my stomach was doing nervous flips. I gripped the wheel and tried to calm myself down. It was only a simple interrogation. Nothing more, and nothing less.

"You actually showed up, I half expected you to bail out and stay curled up with my brother." I winced as he brought up Natsu. Oh I would be so dead when he found out... But this was the only way to solve this problem. I looked towards the direction of the voice, belonging to the one and only Zeref.

"Yeah, let's just get this over with, okay?" I sigh and purposely don't engage on the topic of Natsu. No need to accidentally stir up something that could get me into trouble.

"Oh, we aren't doing this here, Lucy. It's time we took a little drive together, I ought to get to know my baby brother's lover, don't you think?" His words dripped with a sinister poison that made my skin crawl. I didn't respond to him verbally, but my legs carried me towards his dark silhouette. When I reached him he had a kind look on his face and he placed an arm around my shoulders while guiding me to a car that was parked a little way down the street.

"I hope you know what a deep dark mess you have just entangled yourself in, Lucy," Zeref said after I had climbed in the car and he slammed the door. I didn't respond, I only stared forward as he drove. My mind had gone blank as adrenaline rushed over me like a tidal wave, my heart refusing to calm it's racing and my blood failed to cool down, making me slightly dizzy. We where silent the entire ride, but I felt like he was still picking up bits of information about me from something as simplistic as my breathing. When the car finally pulled to a stop we where in a part of town that was unfamiliar to me, the eeriness making my skin crawl–partially in anticipation for what is to come and partially out of sheer uneasiness.

He opened his door and got out, and I followed in suit after I unbuckled. We stood before a house similar in size to the one Natsu lived in, but it didn't look near as nice, nor taken care of as well. Zeref had his hands in his jeans pockets as he strolled up to the door. There where no lights on that I could see and it seemed the closer I got to the place the darker it got–almost as if the place was eating any light near it. Zeref opened the door and flipped on a light that barely illuminated anything. I guess we where alone since there where no other lights or sounds. I hugged my arms to my chest and stood uncomfortably near the door watching Zeref move about casually.

"U-uh, if you don't mind... I really should leave soon so can we get this over with?" My voice was quiet and hesitant still. Zeref dosen't look at me, but a smile draws up on his lips.

"I think that is a great idea, Lucy. Follow me." He motioned for me to follow him and I slowly do. He leads me down a hallway to a doorway that opened to a stairwell that led down. He flipped on another light and I saw parts of a large gym. He walks down the steps leisurely, taking his time. With each step I took the growing feeling of uneasiness grew in my stomach. Oh I wanted to run screaming from this place so badly.

"Ready for your interrogation?" Zeref climbed into a boxing ring and leaned on one of the ropes, looking at me expectantly.

"Yeah," I nod, wanting to end this and get the hell of this place. I wanted to just go home, but I had to do this.

"Well get up here then, I can't very well do this down there," he chuckled and it was similar to Natsu's own laugh. I shake away that thought and climb under the bottom most rope and into the ring. I had a bad feeling that things wouldn't go well for me. Why would he interrogate me here of all places? He didn't seem like the type of person to do something without a purpose.

"I think it's about time I found out what I want to know," Zeref smirked.

"Just ask, I won't hold anything back," I say with less unnerve than I had before.

"That's just what I was hoping you'd say."
