There is no more trust

"I'm proud of you."

For the first time in my life, I heard him say that. For the first time, I felt something like pride.

I bowed my head and waited for Master to give me instructions.

He came over and ruffled my hair, "What beautiful eyes you have." He lifted my chin. I've learned never to look at him in the eyes. So when he lifted my chin I looked to the left.

He ran his thumb across my cheek holding my face.

Without notice, the chain in his hand disappeared reappearing by my bed on the ground. My head was still in his hand but slowly my neck was being reeled in the other direction to my bed. I moved backwards to loosen the tension. His hand fell as I was dragged into my corner.

There was a new smell in the room that was driving me crazy. It was definitely food. I tried to hide it I couldn't help up sniff the air. The smell was driving me insane.

"I see you noticed. I got you a treat, for your good behavior." Master pulled out a red yellow fruit from his pocket. "This is called a Mango." He threw it at me. I caught it, "I would have given you meat, but I thought wiser about it. You are a bird after all."

The mention of meat-filled my head. It overcame the smell of the fruit in my mind. Luckily the sweet smell of this new fruit, mango, was extremely appealing. I looked at him with begging eyes and he nodded permitting me to eat it.

I bite into the red-yellow skin. Underneath was golden yellow. The texture was stringy and it got stuck in my teeth. I ate it all. I bite as hard as I could into the thin in the middle. That was disgusting. It was hard and it didn't break. I ended up eating around it. It was disappointing that half of the fruit was, as I figured out, the seed. I ate it clean.

I tried my best not to make a mess, but I had juice over my hands and mouth. I looked up and saw my Master looking at me. His eye's where filled with amusement.

This has been a great day. I even got a mango.

Master was happy too. When he was happy everything was better. The animals were nice to me. It's been a great day.

I looked up at him I made eye contact for a split second then looked away.

"Oh, I get it. You want another one?" His voice changed to smug, "Well if you do as well as you did today. I'll give you another one tomorrow."

I was so happy. For the first time, I had a mango today. I might have one tomorrow.

The next day. I tried my hardest. I thought about the Mango all day. I thought about it when I fought against his beast-men. When I watched them eat in front of me.

I thought about it when one of the beast-men tripped me. I fell to the ground. My mask skidded off. The beast-man looked away as fast as possible. Everyone else in the room shut their eyes before they saw anything. Master came up to me and activated the pain. My collar showed red as pain coursed through me. The beast-man beside me wreathed in pain. I sat there trying not to make a sound. My mask was placed over my face.

I thought about that Mango the whole time. Not the one I didn't get, the only one I ever got. It was one of the best things I have ever eaten. I never saw that beast-man again. After that day all the other beast-men feared me. One of our kind saw my face and they never came back.

"He's crying in his sleep."

I woke up but stayed still. There were people multiple people in the room. I felt a cold hand on my forehead.

"RG he is burning."

"That is normal, it just means he is healing."

"I wonder what he's dreaming about?" It was the same voice that said I was crying.

"To think that he was able to run on a shattered leg. It's humanly impossible. It was hard but I healed his leg so now it's only broken. I'll heal the rest of it when he has more energy." I could finally It was Recovery Girl who was talking.

"Can he walk after you heal him?" My mind could now tell who was here. This was my brother.

"Of course, he will be able to walk. But, Shota, don't let him. His pain tolerance is off the charts. I don't know if the kid will realize he can't walk." I laughed at RG's words. Of course, I can feel it. I just get over it.

"To think he had that much skill. The fact that he's been hiding it this whole time." Recovery Girl said.

"You didn't even see it. He made a plan in a split second. Then he holds those monsters back. He almost took out both of them." The amazement in Hitoshi's voice made me crack one eye open. I wanted to see what his face looked like.

Everyone was watching me. They all saw me open my eyes. Recovery Girl, Hitoshi, Mic, and Shota were in the room.

"It's kinda creepy waking up to everyone staring at you." My throat still hurt from being burned but I could tell RG healed most of it.

I looked at Nezu and RG. They both looked away. That wasn't a good sign.

I lost myself. I was better than that. I also knew that Nezu and RG were better than telling someone this caliber of a secret. I trusted them and I knew they wouldn't betray that.

Out of everyone in this world those two can keep a secret. Nezu with being experimented on and RG has seen a lot of things over the years.

I looked up at the group of people. Nezu and RG nodded at me and left the room. I took that as consolation. This left Mic, Shota, and Hitoshi.

"I'm glad you guys are okay." I looked at each of them. I looked at Hitoshi and Shota, "Hitoshi I would be gone if it wasn't for your quirk and fast thinking. To think you were able to get him to talk to you was amazing. I owe you my life."

"Ren," He paused and looked like he wanted to cry, "Thank you for everything."

It looked like he wanted to say more but didn't.

"And Aizawa," I watched him look intently at me, "If you didn't stop his quirk I wouldn't be able to talk right now." I looked at Mic, "I need to thank everyone who was there. Without them, the outcome would have been much worse."

"Kid. I know a lot of people who need to thank you. You've saved so many people."

"I'm pretty sure this one ins..." I started to talk only to be cut off.

"No. Don't," Aizawa said.

"Don't what?" I asked.

"Don't talk. Ren, thank you for saving my life and Hitoshi. If it wasn't for you he wouldn't be here."

"What do you mean? If it wasn't for him I wouldn't be here."

"No, that's not what dad is talking about," Hitoshi breathed in, "I wouldn't be with my dad." His voice hitched, "I wouldn't,"

I put on my biggest smile, "Hitoshi, you don't have to get all emotional over this. We are going to be Heroes after all. Saving people will be our jobs."

Eraserhead took what I said almost as if he was waiting for the opening. "Not all heroes get paid."

I didn't like where this conversation was going. Was I wrong to trust Nezu?

My calm demure changed. I started twitching. I sat up and took the covers off of me. My leg had a cast on it and not a lick of skin could be seen under the bandages. I inwardly sighed. They haven't seen my scares.

I looked over to the IV my arm was attached to. There was a black computer screen in my view. I saw my eyes meet my own in the black reflection. It was faint but the black reflection reflected my brown eyes at me. But that was not what I was forced on. My green hair. It stood out on the top of my head.

The others must have seen my reaction, "Phantom. Please calm down." It was Mic.

I was standing on the bed, tense.

I couldn't trust anyone.

I was foolish.

No one can be trusted.

There was an open window and I've gotten my fair share of jumping out of them.

The cast on my leg was problematic. I couldn't bend my knee.

This room was pretty high up but let's be real here. Hights have never bothered me. As far as I remember heights are a walk in the park-like the whole mojo. Even falling doesn't bother me I got over that a long time ago.

"Don't you dare." This time it was Eraser.

"Oh no, I would never." I spat back at him.

I was mad. To even think I tried to trust someone besides myself. The venom in my voice made all three of them step back.

I screamed into the air, "NEZU! I THOUGHT YOU WERE SMARTER THAN THIS!"

I knew he was watching. He's always watching.

Whatever is going through his head right now I hope it's regret.

"Kid calm down. Please just breathe." Eraser took a step closer.

I turned my cold eye's on him, "You just want to take care of a broken child. Tough luck," I laughed losing myself, "I've never been a child."

I've already been through this whole take a step and dash thing so I took the annotative. I flung my wings open causing chaos. I was out the window and falling before anyone knew what was happening.

None of them could follow me. Eraserhead didn't have his gear on.

The only uninjured one was Mic, and he isn't one to jump out windows.

I was falling fast and hard. My wings trailed behind me. I pulled my wings diving. I dashed across the sky. I wasn't flying just hard-skilled falling. I crashed into a tree from there I ran.

If someone was watching they wouldn't think that I'm injured at all except for the limp the cast is causing. If my body was watching separately it would probably die while my spirit laughed at it. I kept running. This pain wouldn't stop me.

I won. They can't find me.

I ran into a crowd of people.

I snagged a person's jacket from a park bench. I swiped someone's sunglasses. With my wings hidden and the eyes covered I was almost set. I need very baggy pants and a hat.

It must be my unluckiest lucky day because I found the baggiest pair of pants. They were just sitting there. I don't know why, but I'm not complaining here. I'm sorry for whoever pants these are but I'm taking them.

The bagginess of the clothes actually made a style. They hide how injured I was. The pants were big on me so they covered my feet.

I swiped a hat off of someone's head. They didn't even notice.

Sweat beat on my forehead. I could feel whatever pain tolerance I had slipping away. Or the pain was getting worse. My leg was throbbing.

I needed to sit down.

Luckily for me, the street was filled with people and kids running around. I picked a random bench.

An old couple was sitting on it. Both had grey hair and were holding hands. I tried not to look at them but they would just make someone's day. They looked like they didn't have a care in the world. The only ones who matter were them.

One of them noticed me. They looked at me and he spoke up in an elderly voice, "You don't look so good."

He moved his hand placing it on his wife's holding it tight.

"You have a nice soul dearie. You can call me Granny and this old fart, you can call Pops." The nice old lady leaned over her husband and looked at me.

From the commotion before and coming to this bench it was almost too much for me to handle.

"Oh, my name's Ren. It is nice to meet you." I gave them my brightest smile.

"Isn't it a wonderful day?" Pops looks up at the blue sky. Before I could agree, he said, "You look like you've been having a bad day."

"Pumpkin, don't pester the boy if he doesn't want to talk." Granny tried to scold him but she wanted to know too.

"I know you can see it! He needs help and someone to talk to." The old man picked up the cane next to him and taped it on the ground trying to be intimidating. He ultimately failed.

I was honestly surprised they noticed so I asked, "How could you tell? Was it your quirks?"

This time, Granny spoke up, "Young man, it wasn't that hard. You have sweat running down your face and you look sad. Both of us old geezers are qurikless. We aren't like you new generations with all this flashy stuff."

Quirkless? Why did they have to be quirkless?

"I am not quikless!" Pops tried to defend himself.

"If you call hard of hearing a quirk you are doing just fine."

Quirkless. I've heard that world many times before. I've saved kids with no quirks before. So why? Why is this causing me pain? Why does my head hurt? Why am I seeing Images flash through my head?

I cut into their little argument, "What do you mean?"

"I faced the facts a long time ago kid. We ain't got any of those quirks." Pops looked at me. "Kid. Where is your family? Is your mom or dad around?"

"My husband is right. You look lost. Do you need us to call someone to come get you?"

"Honey all the kids have phones these days."

"I know, but maybe it died?" She looked at me again, "Hun if you need you can use my phone to call your family."

I felt a chill run down my back as a cold hand gripped my shoulder. The figures sent ice into my veins.

"Oh well hello, mister you must be his father," Granny said.

I turned my head to see very tired a
worried man.

"You have no idea how much of a problem child he is."

"Yup that's his father," the old man hit his cane on the ground again. "It must be your mother with the dark green hair. Or maybe not, hair colors these days."

His hand gripped harder.

"Young man this is your father?" The little old granny asked. The old couple was getting worried.

I didn't want to make them worry. I gave my biggest smile to reassure them that indeed this was my guardian.

"Good. We'll honey it looks like these two got a lot of talking to do." Pops said. He then mumbled when they stood up, "Looks like this young man is in a lot of trouble."

With that, the couple stood up and hobbled away leaving me with Shota.

I slumped bringing my none broken leg up to my chest, "How did you find me?"

"Left wrist." He pointed at my hand.

I looked down and saw a tinny little silver bracelet. I don't know how I didn't notice it before.

"I don't want to go back." I drew my leg in farther. I took the jacket off letting my wings wrap around me.

"Kid..." I watched him sigh. "Let go, let's go back home."

Eraser Head picked me up giving me a piggyback ride. "You're too injured." My voice was flat. I knew he still wasn't completely healed.

"You're worse. If you keep walking I'm sure RG won't heal us."

I let him carry me. My leg hurt anyway.

He carried me on his back as we slowly made our way to his apartment. "I can really walk." I finally broke the silence.

"Just because you can, doesn't mean you should." He sounded so tired. It made me feel guilty.

"You are clearly hurt. I can walk." I squirmed. He only grabbed me harder and started moving faster.

"If you are trying to run it won't work."

"Ha! Like you could stop me. I just can't hide now." When it's off I'm gone I'm sure he knew that.

It doesn't look like it's gonna come off easily. My tools at my hotel can help me, but under no circumstance am I leading them there. That place is mine.

"I'm sorry it came to that. You," He paused, "you are at too much of a risk from others and yourself."

"I was trying to joke but you just ruined it." My voice was cold.

"Tough luck."

"What going to happen to me?"

Are they going to put me into a cage? Will they tell the public who I am? Is lOV going to get me? Will they arrest me?

"First you are going to sit down and eat a meal. Then sleep. After that RG is going to heal you."

"That's not what I meant."

"That is what comes first."

We got to the apartment. He walked me over to the couch and plopped me onto it. He then turned on the stove. I heard the clicking and next boiling water. After a short time, he brought over a bowl of ramen.

It was from a packet. It almost made me laugh. I was pretty hungry. I took the bowl from him and started eating. It was pretty good.

I finished after slowly eating it.

I had to go to the bathroom.

"You either hop there or I pick you up." Eraserhead came up to me threatening.

I took it in stride and I started hopping. When I closed the door to the bathroom I walked again.

There in the mirror was a mess of green hair. It looked out of place. My dark contracts were still in. My eyes are turning red again.

I used the bathroom and looked in the mirror again. I sighed. I leaned in and this time looked at my real eyes. Looking back at me my discolored eyes looked back. One matching my hair, the other matching the ends of my feathers. I looked like a freak.

I was reminded again that no one can be trusted.

Aizawa POV

He was being quiet. I made him the packet of ramen. I was pleasantly surprised when he took it and started eating. I was disappointed at how long it took him to eat just one bowl.

I was staring at him like a hawk. When he got up I hissed at him, "You either hop there or I pick you up."

Like the acrobatic, he was he easily jumped to the bathroom.

After five minutes in the bathroom, I was pacing back and forth. After ten I was standing in front of the door. When fifteen minutes passed I pounded on the door.

"Kid, you ok in there?" I knew I shouldn't have left him alone! Why was I so stupid.

I tried the handle to find it was unlocked. I slowly opened the door to see this kid staring at the mirror.

His wings blocked my view from what he was looking at. He turned around and wouldn't make eye contact with me.

"Kid?"

I could see little trembles run down his body.

"I'm fine. Just tired." He spoke back to me. His voice alone was convincing, but his body language spoke volumes. Each tells a different story.

He turned around not looking at me. I grabbed his shoulders. "Please look at me." I needed to see his facial expression.

Slowly but surely he lifted his eyes. Two dazzling eyes meet mine. Dark green and blue.

He looked away quickly. There was one question on my mind. I had no idea who this kid was. Everything I know from this kid is a lie or speculation.

I took a deep breath in and asked, "Ren? What is your real name?"

He opened his mouth and then closed it. He opened it again and spoke, "I don't know."

Sadness filled me. This kid. The kid in front of me. The one who lived as a pet. Who has been living on the streets for years saving people? The kid who gave me my other son. The one who got two jobs so he wouldn't have to steal anything.

This kid didn't even know his real name.

I stepped forward and bear-hugged him. I picked him up during the hug and whispered, "We will find out what it is. Out of everyone in this world you deserve to know."
