Chapter Forty Eight- The Calendar

"Did you just-did you just feint on me, Roy Walker?! What the-" MacKenzie slapped him twice on the cheek and turned his chin up. "That's like...disrespectful."

"You, uh....you're been drinking a lot," Roy's brow creased. "You ever consider how that might be affecting your body, how that might be affecting-"

"Hey! I didn't fucking know, I didn't know there was a Roy Walker spawn inside of my body until today."

She was clenching her fists, unhappy at Roy's response.

"Kenzie you've been getting sick since we were on the road. And you practically drank an entire bottle of whisky. That's not good."

"I...I think that's when it might have happened," MacKenzie said quietly. "Conception. In that hotel."

Roy ran his fingers through his hair. "I'm sorry I reacted like that."

"No you're not!"

"No, I'm not. You didn't take anything yesterday, did you? From that Helena girl???"

"What? No, Roy. I'm not stupid."

"You've done drugs before, what am I supposed to assume."

MacKenzie frowned. "Roy."

His body was tense, hands shaking, face red.

...Not out of embarrassment like usual?

He held MacKenzie's face in his hands and kissed her on the lips.

"I love you."

MacKenzie sniffed. "Are you mad at me?"

"What? N-no. I'm just really concerned. I'm concerned you're not taking care of yourself. I'm concerned you're stressed. I'm..." Roy placed his hand on MacKenzie's stomach. She started to cry. "Wow. We're not married."

"So fucking propose to me, you dumbass!" MacKenzie sobbed.

"You can't marry me," Roy said quietly.

"Why the fuck not?"

"I can't support you. I can't protect you."

"Jesus, do not start this with me right now," MacKenzie said as she pushed Roy into the bedroom and locked the door. "Do not start this with me."

"You wanna have this conversation? The marriage conversation? Timothy is home, and he's horny for some gossip.

"Be my guest, Sparrow was the first person to know you knocked me up."

You knocked me up.

He knocked up Dahlia too.

"Don't put it that way," Roy sighed.

"Why," MacKenzie said, bringing Roy's hand to her stomach. "Why can't we just have a long and happy life together?"

"I never said we couldn't."

"We can't do this whole I'm your live-in nurse in public thing forever. I'm not going to. It's not convincible. I'm also pregnant."

"And you're not going to be happy living in a guest bedroom forever either," Roy said.

"Or nine months," MacKenzie answered. "This Roy Walker spawn lives inside of me for nine months until it makes an appearance and what do I say then? Roy Walker isn't my husband, and he's the father of this child."

"That's all Dahlia wanted." Roy's response was almost inaudible.

"What?"

"What?"

"Are you sure you're pregnant?"

"Yeah, I'm sure!" MacKenzie exclaimed.

"Uh," Roy whimpered.

"Yeah."

Roy held MacKenzie's hands and didn't blink.

"Don't you want to dance on your wedding day?" He said softly.

"You are. You REALLY are doing the thing right now. Do you listen to what I say?"

"Of course I listen to what you say. You're the only person I talk to."

"Then stop bringing the disability thing into this."

"Too bad because I'm going to. I don't know if you noticed but it's kind of affecting me and it kind of affects our future together."

KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK.

"Jesus FUCK," MacKenzie opened the bedroom door to see Timothy.

"That cat maid is here," he smiled. "Wants to talk to Sparrow but I'm taking a wild gander and saying you lost her at the pharmacist?"

"Uh...sort of."

"I'll tell her you'll be right out then."

MacKenzie got down to Roy's level. Her energy made him feel like a child being scolded.

"We are not done talking about this," she whispered.

Roy wasn't sure if he was going to feint again or disassociate.

"I love you a lot," Roy said monotonously.

"We love you too," MacKenzie said, and she closed the door behind her.
