Chapter Eleven- Nowhere Fast

Roy hadn't laid eyes on Alice Lebow in months. And she hadn't seen him in months. He suddenly grew extremely self conscious. He didn't know how much his physical appearance changed...he did lose weight, his beard was coming in...but that was because Kenz preferred the beard. He was usually clean shaven.

Alice looked just as perplexed as Roy did. He was almost sure tears were forming. She clenched her fists and bit her lip.

Roy didn't say anything. He was kind of in shock. He hadn't seen her since she was in his apartment. She didn't change much. Her hair was still big and her skin still pale. She looked nothing like her sister. Her clothes looked expensive and her heels high. Her blouse was low cut and her nails done. She still wore her familiar locket.

Alice had a look of disbelief as well. She froze in the hallway like a deer in headlights.

"You're still in a..." She ran her hands down her face. "I thought you would've been over it by now."

Over it? Over what, getting my heart broken or breaking my spine for you?

"That's not how it works."

"S-sorry I just..."

"No. Just stop."

Alice lowered her eyes. She didn't know what to do with her body. She glanced around, avoiding eye contact with her ex boyfriend.

"I'm told you didn't live here anymore," Roy said calmly. He was trying not to shake but it might've been noticeable. He prayed to God one of his legs wouldn't decide to start spasming. That would just be the icing on the cake.

"I, uh, c-came to get some things..." She said quietly. She continued to scan Roy before gingerly stepping around him and heading to her bedroom he was always afraid to open.

He wheeled slowly after her. Fuck this bitch and the cock she rode in on.

Why am I so fucked right now? I'm fine.

She jumped when she realized Roy was behind her. She had several clothes laid out on her bed and various items in a box. Besides that her room was empty. Her windows had curtains unlike MacKenzie's.

"You look good," Roy commented.

Alice rubbed her face and sniffed. "Haven't seen you in almost a year." She continued to put things in her box.

"How's Sinclair treatin' you."

Alice looked up. Roy could tell she was gritting her teeth.

"G-good."

Roy studied her. He couldn't help but think that he missed her.

Alice turned to face Roy. "You're really paralyzed."

"Uh...yeah?"

She sat down on the bed. "Lord, Roy, I was in denial." Tears began to run down her face. "Okay I watched you jump off that bridge. I talked to you right before. You said just watch. And ran up there for that horse thing."

Roy didn't want to be reminded.

"You did it for me you did it for me and I didn't care!"

"I know that," Roy commented.

"I thought it would be okay by all this time I thought you'd be better. I knew I was fucked that day at your apartment, Roy. Do you know what that did to me?! You couldn't even lift your legs up I wanted to die when I brought you inside!"

YOU were fucked? YOU wanted to die?

"I couldn't handle it, okay? I couldn't handle seeing you helpless."

"Ok, first of all I'm not fucking helpless, secondly why the fuck are you trying to tug at my heartstrings almost a year later?"

He wanted to slap her for having the nerve.

"Because I just couldn't do it!" Alice cried. "I just couldn't do it! We spent all that time together, running, going places, pranking people at the studio and swimming and cycling and then your legs," she continued to cry. "Just like that. Okay? ROY! Just like that it stopped and I chose Sinclair's proposal over you like some carnival game and I didn't know I'd never be able to do all those things with you again ever." She wiped her eyes on a satin scarf. "I just didn't sign up for this. I didn't sign up for a crippled boyfriend."

"Do you even hear yourself right now?" Roy scoffed.

"I'm just speaking my mind, that's all," she sniffled.

"You didn't sign up for a crippled boyfriend, well okay!" Roy shrugged. "You've got the leading man as your future husband, you've got that going for you. Your crippled ex boyfriend is fucking your sister. Bet you didn't sign up for the latter either, huh."

Alice froze, mouth agape.

And Roy said the first thing that came to his mind.

"And you know damn well you're not getting a single penny of the lawsuit money."

Alice bit her lip. She didn't like that response.

Roy had refused to go through with the lawsuit and settle for the funds the company had offered him long ago. He had ripped up Alice's letter right in the hospital in front of Luigi and Barnes. He knew where the contract was in his house. All he had to do was sign it and send it to his attorney. The check would come in the mail.

That's all he had to do.

And he told himself he wasn't gonna give in, he wasn't gonna do it. Even though the contract would expire in a year and a half. It wasn't too late. And in that split second he wanted to swallow his pride and take what was his. It was his.

"I'm still in love with you," Alice said softly.

She closed the cardboard box with the rest of her items.

"I never ever stopped loving you when I accepted Sinclair's proposal. And I didn't stop loving you after the accident. I just couldn't handle it. I couldn't handle you being paralyzed now. I couldn't. Do it." She grit her teeth. She licked her lips and cleared her throat.

"Can't say I still feel the same way," Roy replied.

Alice gathered her things and slowly walked down the hallway to the front door. She turned around, looking down at Roy.

She didn't say anything when she left.
