13 A nudge

Damian POV

As I hugged Savvy tightly, I heard her sniffle softly. I knew what must be going on inside her. The relief was palpable. All the tension that had built up over the last few weeks had left her body. Even if she probably had a few new questions.

"Thank God it's over." she whispered.

"Well, not quite yet. But I'll arrange for the house to be returned into your possession today. You've already signed the papers. It will only take a few days for the notary to make it official.

In the meantime, we'll wait for her to transfer the money to you. If it doesn't happen in the time frame I mentioned, we will take further steps. Don't worry. If necessary, I'll have her account seized," said the lawyer.

"What kind of sum are we talking about? And how did you find out?" I wanted to know.

"Oh, let's just say I have my ways. The value of the life insurance policy is around one million dollars. The only question is whether and how much of it has already been spent. It could take her a while to pay back the full amount. I can't tell if she was stupid enough to spend the money already.

The insurance company will also hold her accountable. But you don't have to worry about that. If there are any questions, I'll sort them out," he explained.

"Holy shit...thanks for everything Mr. Jonas. I really appreciate it." Savannah said after mumbling the first part and gave him a quick hug.

"No problem. It's always a pleasure to have such a clear case. I should be on my way. Have a nice day." he replied with a small laugh.

"And I'm grateful to you too, Damian. I know I've said it a few times, but I want to make sure you know," Savvy then said to me as we made our way back to the car.

"I really enjoyed doing it and you really don't have to thank me again and again. It goes without saying to help a friend. What do you say? Shall we go somewhere for something to eat? We should celebrate," I replied.

"What do you say we do that tonight? I could do with a nap right now. The last few days have been a bit much." she said.

"Deal. A nap sounds really good." I replied and so we made our way back home.

Once there, Savvy wasted no time and immediately took off her shoes, then the blazer. With a deep sigh, she sat down on the couch while pulling a blanket over her. I did the same. The house was silent. There was no sound except Savannah's deep, slow breathing. And so it wasn't long before I slipped deeper into the pillows. Slowly but surely, I fell asleep.

Savannah POV

I slowly started to wake up because I realized I had to go to the bathroom. It wasn't until I started to move that I noticed the warmth against my back as well as the arms that seemed to be wrapped around me. Smiling, I reached for the hands that held me. A familiar feeling flowed through me. But then I remembered. These couldn't be the hands I remembered.

"D... What are you doing?" I asked quietly as I tried to pull away from him.

But all I could do was turn around in his arms.

"Don't get up yet. It's so cozy right now." he mumbled, anything but awake.

His eyes were still closed as a contented smile formed on his face.

I could only swallow. Because of his closeness, his warmth, but above all because of the sudden feelings that arose in me.

I carefully lifted my hand. I placed my trembling fingers against his cheek. Damian's eyes opened. His dark yet soft orbs met my gaze. I saw him lick his lips, seemingly involuntarily. Slowly, my fingertips stroked down his skin to his mouth. There it was again. It was almost like a nudge in his direction.

Uncertain and yet unable to stop, I leaned forward until our lips finally met. Hesitantly at first, but then he returned the kiss. My breath caught in my throat as everything around me slowly dissolved. He pulled me tighter against him. I sank into a fog in which I had his taste on my tongue and where the guilt didn't reach me at first.
