10 Next try

Damian POV

Lucy's screeching words rang in my ears. It was so loud that it almost hurt. And the pure rage that was written all over her face. I couldn't believe what she was imposing on us. I looked at Savannah and saw her more than just a shocked expression.

"Hey! What do you think you're doing screaming like that?" I began, but Savvy pulled me back and stood in front of Lucy when she obviously tried to enter the house.

"What do you want, Lucy?" she asked, not responding to what Lucy had said.

Her voice was so strained. It was clear that she was trying very hard not to scream or even burst into tears. All the work she had done in the last few months was probably about to collapse.

"I want to know what he's doing here!" she hissed.

"Since you didn't know, that can't be the reason. Next try." Savvy replied.

"I... I wanted to see how you were doing." Lucy then said after thinking for a moment.

"Yeah, sure... After 9 months of none of you caring how I'm doing, how I'm coping... I doubt it, especially after what you were yelling about not even 5 minutes ago. So... do you want another try?" Savvy then asked, her voice strained and hard.

I knew it was taking a lot out of her. It was understandable after all she'd been through. And none of her in-laws had given her the slightest bit of effort.

"Okay, I want to have some papers regarding the house. Our lawyer needs them. So if you don't mind, give me everything Will had on it. Insurance, mortgage agreement, certificates, everything," Lucy finally replied.

"I think what you meant to say was 'Could I please have copies of the documents about the house my brother built' and even then the answer would be fuck no!" I said angrily, knowing exactly what they were up to.

"Why are you interfering, Damian? You should be ashamed of yourself! I thought Will was your friend. We're just trying to put right what he wanted." Lucy says to me.

"Oh, I am, and that's why I'm here. To help Savannah. Unlike your cold-hearted family. They were together for over 5 years. If anyone should be ashamed, it's you. She owes you nothing and won't give either of you a single document." I hissed and tried to get past Savvy, but she grabbed my arm and held me back.

"Come on, Savannah. We can just do this or you'll hear from our lawyer." Lucy said, ignoring me completely.

"Oh, it's quite simple. You'll hear from my lawyer. And don't you dare set foot on my property again." Savvy replied.

"You mean Will's property. You have no rights here. Hell, you were only married for an hour. You don't even have a marriage certificate." Lucy laughed.

"And that's where you're wrong. Will and I have been married for two months longer than anyone here knew. We went to the court house the day after we- but that's none of your business. You want a fight? You can have one. I'm not gonna lose the last bit of Will I have left. Not now that I have a choice. Now get out of here before I call the police," Savvy said, pushing Lucy back so she could slam the door in her face.

Not a second later, she began to cry violently. Slowly she sank to the floor as she was shaken by heavy sobs. I followed her and pulled her into my arms without thinking.

"Shh... everything will be fine. Don't worry about it. They won't get away with it." I breathed while simply holding her.

"I don't know if that's true. I mean, my name is in everything too. Legally it's mine. But this lawyer they have... He's a real bastard. He's probably got some nasty tricks up his sleeve," she sniffled so quietly that I could barely hear her.

"I might have an idea. The only question is whether you trust me," I began.
