LarkFur and MistyPaw's departure
LarkFur stared at her daughter, his eyes blazing with untold fury, his pelt prickling, his ears pinned to the back of his head as he ticked his jaw, trying to find the right words to say.
Im making the right decision, he told himself.
He silently opened his mouth, his tongue curling to form words.
"We're leaving." He said simply.
MistyPaw's ears pricked up, her golden eyes glowing in the dark and widened, her breath hitching. She took a small step back, looking up to her father with confusion swirling in her gaze. "What do you mean?" She mumbled.
"We're leaving-" he repeated simple, still in a defensive pose, trying to get to the point and not be as harsh. His brown tabby pelt prickled once more as a breeze rushed through the forest, ruffling both their furs.
They were hidden in the underbrush, away from the clan camp, the shadows of the overhanging trees casting a dark forecast on their thin bodies from lack of nutrition and care, they were both working too hard, and the tom worried for both of their health.
MistyPaw began to shake her head slowly, which quickly quickened in pace, her tail lashing behind her, her claws sinking into the damp earth underneath her. "We can't!" She exclaimed, tears pricking at the corner of her eyes.
"Shh! A patrol might find us!" LarkFur hissed, "MistyPaw, we have to, we will!--" he demanded , "--If we don't leave, we'll die. It's getting hard- this clan life- we can't cope. We'd be more happier somewhere else. We're better off on our own, and you'll follow me, we are family. Family comes first." He said strictly in a low hiss, crouching down. His underbelly brushing against the grass as he stared at his daughters reaction.
Tears flowed fluently down her cheeks. It was simple, she was torn, but the tom knew it was for the good of them both. He had to.
MistyPaw stared at her father, biting her own tongue. Her insides churned and twisted, her hearth crackling into shards of departing her clan she grew up in. She had to, her father was right.
She glanced over her shoulder in longing to say goodbye, but she knew it was impossible to do so. They had to leave right away. She let out a small whimper, hanging her head, letting the tears dribble down her muzzle and gently into the undergrowth which surrounded them.
"Okay, Father..." She whispered in defeat. LarkFur let out a heavy sigh, knowing the sudden turn of plans would hurt them both. He comforted his daughter, being at her side and running his tongue across her head as he guided her away from their camp forever.
With tears shed, and with heavy hearts, they stepped slowly.
Both of them would miss their clan, but it was better off this way, and they both knew it.
