Chapter 28

"How are your history lessons going?" Merope smiled.

"I don't want to go back," I glared.

"No, you won't be back for a bit," she agreed.

"Are you beginning to understand though? Who your father really was?"

"I know who he is, what the fuck is the point of all this?"

"She hardly has a point," Morfin snorted, appearing.

"Oh, hush," she glared at him.

"She's trying to be cryptic. All you really need to know is that your father is a dick and killed a lot of people to try and get those horcruxes," Morfin said.

"Stop it!" Merope snapped.

"No can do. I'm bored with her and her little adventures into the past," he said lazily.

"How was your chat with Sirius?" Merope ignored him.

"It's my fault he's dead."

"Oh, child, no it isn't. Not entirely, just partially!"

"God, I'm so sorry Sirius," I muttered into my pillow.

"Do you see now?"

"That I'm a monster?"

"Well..."

"Yeah, Merope, I see it."

"You don't have to die. Stop with the dark magic that's making you insane and focus on helping Harry," she pleaded.

"Yeah...help Harry," I muttered.

"Help him," she nodded enthusiastically.

"Yeah," I frowned, getting out of bed.

"You can survive this," her voice said, but the apparition of her and Morfin had disappeared.

"I'm going to survive," I let out a small laugh. I quickly got dressed into my school uniform and threw my hair up into a bun. I sprinted out of my dorm and down the stairs, darting through all of the other Slytherins.

"Leah!" I heard Draco call, but I ignored him.

"What's she doing?" Pansy asked as I pushed the common room door open and ran out into the hall. I sprinted through the castle, peered into the Great Hall and then raced upstairs. When I reached the Gryffindor common room I knocked frantically. Lavender opened the door and I shoved past her, must to her dismay.

"Excuse you!" she called and I scanned the room for Harry.

"Harry!" I called, walking over to where he sat with the trio.

"Leah?" he frowned.

"We need to talk. Now."

"Okay..."

"With Dumbledore," I insisted.

"Oh...oh shit, okay," Harry nodded and he stood up, nodding to Ron and Hermione. We walked in silence to Dumbledore's office and entered when he allowed.

"To what do I owe the pleasure?" Dumbledore smiled.

"I have things to tell you guys," I said.

"Go ahead," he said encouragingly.

"First of all, the thing father is looking for, the horcruxes, are formed when killing somebody. They rip apart your soul making you basically invincible. Also, let me say for the record that after I relay all of this to you, I'm going to need protecting because...because I'm fully turning my back on my father," I said in a rush and Harry looked at me in shock.

"What?" he asked and I nodded, letting tears form.

"You are telling the complete truth?" Dumbledore asked.

"Yes," I whispered.

"Continue," he nodded.

"Aright well...these horcruxes must be destroyed in order to defeat my father. There's no way around it. The problem is...I'm a horcrux," I said and I heard the two breathe in sharply, "I am fully prepared to die in this war. I know that there's no way I'll survive the war, regardless of the side I'm on. However, I think that if father is gone, Draco has a better chance of survival. In addition to Draco's survival...father gave him a mission to kill you."

"Mister Malfoy is to kill me?"

"If he doesn't father will kill him."

"That's a rather tough situation," Dumbledore muttered.

"Are you serious?" Harry asked in horror.

"I am."

"Is there any way you can get him to turn from your father as well?"

"I'm not sure..."

"What possessed you to do this, Miss Riddle?" Dumbledore asked.

"I've had time to really reflect on everything I've ever done and..." I began to cry and Harry gathered me into his arms.

"I want to stop," I said truthfully. No more games. I'm officially on the light side.

"I will give you all the protection you need, Miss Riddle," Dumbledore vowed.

"Thank you," I whispered.

"Class starts in several minutes. Harry you go on to Advanced Potions, but Leah I suggest you stay here so we can work everything out."

"Yes sir," we nodded. Harry squeezed my hand before he left and then it was just Dumbledore and I.

"You are telling the absolute truth this time," he observed.

"Yes."

"I'm very proud of you, Miss Riddle. This cannot be an easy thing for you to go through with."

"It isn't, but it's what's best for everybody."

"It's quite the game changer," he folded his hands, "now what do you plan on doing about the horcrux in you?"

"Oh well I'll go out with a bang. Preferably right in front of father during some final confrontation or whatever. That'll show him," I muttered.

"Always so dramatic," he smiled.

"I wouldn't want to die any other way," I smiled back.

"Now once your father realizes you aren't answering his summons anymore, he'll know what's going on. You won't be able to go to Malfoy Manor anymore. So, before any of that happens, I suggest going to the manor and gathering anything you may need. We'll set that up for Saturday. After that, any breaks we have you will be going to Grimmauld place. It is also important for you to know that Severus is completely on our side. He is not a spy for your father as he has told you."

"Oh thank God," I sighed.

"Are you sure this is what you want?"

"Yes."

"Well then, welcome to the Order," he smiled.

"Bloody Potter using that bezoar in potions! How is he doing that, he isn't that intelligent!" Draco was yelling as I walked into the common room.

"Leah!" Pansy jumped at the opportunity.

"He's cheating mate," Blaise shrugged, walking over to me as well. Soon Violet and Thane and Arianna were gathered around, everybody asking me how I felt but I locked eyes with Draco.

"We have to talk," I said and everyone shut up.

"About?"

"I'll tell you once we're alone," I said firmly. The others glanced at each other nervously and cleared the way as we made our way out of the common room. I brought him up to Dumbledore's office and he frowned at me intensely.

"What are we doing here?" he asked.

"What indeed, Mister Malfoy," Dumbledore smiled.

"Please, have a seat," he gestured. Draco and I sat down and I clasped my hands nervously.

"It has been brought to my attention that you have been given a mission," he began and Draco snapped his gaze over to me.

"What did you do?" he hissed.

"Draco..."

"What did you do?!" he repeated, only louder.

"Mister Malfoy, she has made the right choice."

"You're siding with them?" he seethed.

"Draco, just listen!"

"You made me get this god forsaken thing and you aren't even on our side anymore?" his voice became louder once more.

"It's safer if you just accept Dumbledore's protection!"

"The Dark Lord will kill my family! How could you not care about that?"

"I do! This is why I don't want to be like my father! He is going to kill the only family I have!"

"This isn't about you!"

"Of course it is!" I screamed.

"You are so selfish! Did you even think about what your actions would cause?"

"Yes."

"You're okay with them? The consequences of what you've done."

"Yes."

"I hate you."

"I know."

"I really, really hate you. You've completely ruined my life."

"I'm sorry," I whispered.

"Mister Malfoy," Dumbledore interrupted, "it is better if you join us."

"No."

"Draco..." I pleaded.

"No."

I watched in agony as he stood up and walked out of the room, slamming the door behind him. I held in a sob as I put my face in my hands.

"Oh God."

"Miss Riddle, I do believe that trip to Malfoy Manor should be taken much sooner than originally planned."

I flooed over to the manor and paused in the living room, scanning the area. For now, the coast is clear. I made my way upstairs, slipping into my room unnoticed. I shrunk any belongings I had and put them into the small bag I was carrying. I gathered all the money I had lying around and stuffed that in there as well. I shoved the bag into my pocket and left the room, closing the door quietly.

"Leah?" father asked as I walked past Lucius's study. God dammit!

"Hello," I said.

"What are you doing here?"

"I forgot a book in my room that I needed for school."

"Ah. Well you're home just in time, I need you to help me get information out of somebody."

"No," I shook my head.

He stilled and looked at me for a few moments.

"What I mean is, I really have to get back to school. I have an important exam in a few minutes."

"I see...you better be going then," he narrowed his eyes suspiciously.

"Yes...I'll see you soon," I said and raced downstairs only to run into Bella and Narcissa.

"Oh darling!" Narcissa smiled.

"Hello," I hugged her tightly.

"How are you?"

"I'm just fine," I said, moving to hug Bella just as tightly.

"Are you sure? Something wrong?"

"No I just really need to get back to the school," I said, fighting back tears. An owl appeared at the window and Narcissa went to get it as Bella hugged me back.

"Darling, what is it?"

"Letter for you, Bella," Narcissa said, sitting me down on the couch. Bella frowned and began to read the letter. I stood up in a panic and moved towards the fire place.

"Oh Leah, sit down. You're upset, talk to me."

"She's turned against us," Bella muttered.

"What?"

"I have to go," I said hurriedly and moved towards the fireplace, but Bella grabbed my arm.

"She's turned against us!" Bella yelled, throwing me away from the fireplace.

"Let me go!" I yelled.

"My Lord! My Lord she's a traitor!" Bella held up the letter as father appeared at the top of the stairs. I set the letter on fire with a quick Incendio and struggled against Bella.

"What?" he asked sharply, walking down to us.

"Young Draco sent us a letter. Said she went crawling to Dumbledore," Bella hissed and Narcissa gasped.

"No!" I screamed, scrambling for my wand. Father grabbed me from Bella and shook me.

"What did you tell him?" he asked angrily.

"Everything!"

"You ungrateful, good for nothing piece of shit!" he yelled, back handing me. I threw my hands up and yelled a quick stupefy. It wasn't much, but it was enough to distract them as I sprinted to the fireplace and yelled "Hogwarts" as a jet of green light was sent towards me.

I landed back in Dumbledore's office in a heap and I cried heavily.

"What happened?" Severus said, moving past Dumbledore to help me up.

"Draco ratted me out," I sobbed.

"He what?" Sev hissed.

"He told them! Father tried to kill me," I cried some more and Severus hugged me tightly.

"It's alright," he murmured, stroking my hair.

"I believe there's no turning back now, Miss Riddle," Dumbledore said sadly.

"No, I suppose not," I agreed, wiping away my tears and facing my new family.

"The other sixth years have just finished their apparition lessons, if you wish to go speak to Harry, you may. It might be better to sleep in Gryffindor tonight."

"Thank you," I nodded. My cheek was throbbing where father had hit me, but I was just happy to be alive.
