Chapter Twenty-Three
Saturday night.
The clock struck eleven and I groaned. One more hour of waiting. I was lying on the couch with my head on Draco's lap and Pansy sitting on the arm on the couch. Draco was playing with my hair and Pansy was painting my toe nails.
"So, what color should we do?" she asked, looking at the two colors in her hand. One was black and the other was a deep glittering purple.
"Do the purple, I think it's gorgeous," I said.
"You are so right," she agreed and started painting my toes.
"What color am I doing yours?" I asked, looking up at her.
"I was thinking a blue with silver shimmer."
"Sounds very cool. Draco what color are we doing yours?" I teased. He laughed and gazed at the colors we laid out on the floor.
"Definitely that bright pink," he said seriously, making me laugh. I sat up and grabbed the pink bottle and held it up to Draco's hand.
"It matches your complexion," I nodded.
"Leah, sit still you're going to make me mess up," Pansy scolded me. I pouted and put my head back on Draco's lap.
"So you wrote the letter on Tuesday, right?" Draco asked.
"Yes I did," I confirmed.
-Flashback-
I called for Alisana and grabbed a piece of parchment and a quill.
Father,
Things are going well I suppose. I have to speak to you about something though. In person. I have some people I'd like you to meet, also. So, please call a meeting in the Forbidden Forest, Saturday at midnight. Only have Severus, Wormtail, and Fenrir come. And yourself of course. I'm going strong with the plan and it is working well. You do not need to respond if you wish.
Yours truly,
Leah.
I tied the letter to Alisana and sent her off to give word to my father. Hopefully he shows up.
-End flashback-
"The thing is will he come?" I wondered.
"He will, he's your father," Draco assured me. I sighed and looked at Pansy as she finished my nails.
"Who is your dad anyway? Somebody famous...Yaxley? No, you don't look like him. Hm, a death eater?" She asked.
"You could say he's a death eater. You'll find out soon enough though," I smiled.
"Hey guys, are you ever going to go to bed?" came a tired voice from the stairs. I looked up to see Blaise leaning against the railing in boxers and a t-shirt.
"Yeah eventually, are we being too loud?" I asked.
"Not really, I was just wondering. Night Leah, Pansy. You too Draco," Blaise smirked. I smiled and waved.
"Night Blaise," I said. Pansy nodded in agreement and he made his way upstairs.
"Anyway, we've managed to make it until 11:30, so what should we do?" I asked.
"We're going to need something to keep us from getting caught," Draco frowned. We hadn't thought of that.
"I have the perfect solution," I said, smiling smugly. I got off the couch and used a drying spell so my nail polish wouldn't smudge.
"I'll be back," I said, opening the common room door. I slipped out into the shadows and inched along the wall. Once I reached the stairs, I stealthily sprinted up them, two at a time. I reached the fifth floor and stopped to catch my breath. I crouched in a shadow and kept my breathing even.
"Leah what are you doing?" came a slow drawl I've come to know very well. I cringed and looked behind me to see Severus walking towards me.
"Getting something important, what are you doing?" I asked, standing up.
"I have something to attend to. You should be in bed...detention with me Monday night, 8:00. However, continue what you were doing," he said, slyly turning away and disappearing into the dark. I breathed out a sigh of relief and ran up the last two flights of stairs. I reached the Gryffindor common room and whispered the password. The portrait swung open and I walked in, looking around.
"Leah?" a surprised voice asked. I turned to see Lavender sitting by the fire with Weasley.
"Hey," I smiled.
"Hey Leah, what are you doing up here?" Weasley asked, walking over.
"Well, Ron, I came up here for a favor," I said, smiling hopefully. He smiled and crossed his arms.
"What would that be?" he asked with a laugh and I bit my lip.
"Well, um, I heard that Harry has this invisibility cloak, and uh, I was wondering...could I maybe borrow it?" I asked. Weasley chuckled and wrapped his arm around my waist.
"Sure you can, but Harry has it, do you mind waiting?" he asked. I sighed and shook my head. We sat on the couch and talked to Lavender for a few minutes before I saw the common room door swing open with no one there. Once the door closed, Potter appeared, and I saw a silvery black cloak in his hand.
"Oh, hi Leah," he said in surprise.
"Hey Harry," I smiled. Weasley got up and started talking to Potter before taking the cloak and handing it to me.
"Here you go, just give it back tomorrow," he smiled.
"Thanks guys," I smiled, running out of the common room. I slipped the cloak over me and headed straight for the common room, taking it off right before I walked in.
"Okay, I'm really sorry. Come on guys, we've got to go!" I said to Draco and Pansy as the clock struck midnight. I threw the cloak over us and they gasped.
"Whoa, this is an invisibility cloak," Pansy marveled. I nodded as we quickly walked to the main door. I opened it silently and we walked to the edge of the forest. I pulled off the cloak and turned to Draco and Pansy.
"Don't talk too much, and do not show fear or freak out," I said, mostly directing it to Pansy. They both nodded and we walked into the forest. We made our way through trees and over roots. I had my wand out for protection and we finally came to a clearing. I saw cloaked figures and the familiar figure of Wormtail. He stepped further into the light and bowed to me.
"Hello Miss Leah," he said. I nodded and looked around to see Fenrir and Severus. Severus wasn't in the light, but I knew it was him. Fenrir was openly glaring at me.
"Hello Wormtail, Fenrir," I said in acknowledgment and then nodded to Severus without saying a word.
"Where is my father?" I asked with a frown. I was slightly disappointed.
"I am here," he said from behind Wormtail. He was seated in a large chair.
"Hello father," I smiled.
"Hello dear," he smiled. I heard Pansy gasp quietly.
"I see you've brought young Draco, and this lovely young lady," he noticed.
"Yes, this is Pansy Parkinson," I said gesturing to her.
"Ah yes, a Parkinson," he nodded. Pansy bowed slightly and looked up.
"It's an honor to meet you," she said. I nodded and turned slightly to Draco who was also bowing slightly.
"I don't feel like we were introduced properly," he said.
"Yes, you are correct. I'm glad you've chosen your alliance," my father appraised. Draco smiled proudly and I felt pride swell inside me as well.
"Well, now that that's out of the way, I would like to get down to business," I said, losing the polite front, and replacing it with a cold and bitter edge.
"Who allowed Fenrir to eat my sister?" I said, almost yelling. They all shrunk back and Fenrir growled. My glare turned to him and we locked gazes.
"My question requires an answer!" I snapped, and everyone glanced around uneasily.
"I did," Severus whispered. My expression turned to shock and I slowly looked at him.
"What?" I snarled.
"Leah, be quiet," Draco hissed and I grit my teeth.
"I didn't realize it'd make you this angry," he admitted, "I figured you'd be upset, and I wanted you to have a noticeable reaction so that people would believe your grief, but I never expected this outcome. You have my deepest apologies."
"I will forgive you just this once. Do not ever cross me like that again," I said coldly. He nodded and stepped back. I could feel Pansy's shock, but I didn't look at her. I turned to the half-breed instead.
"Now, Fenrir, I don't blame you. I know you get animalistic urges, and it isn't entirely your fault. I have a solution for that," I said and he slowly walked over. I pulled off my necklace and dangled it for everyone to see. Severus instantly recognized it, but didn't say a word.
"This is a potion I've created. I'm a decent potion maker and I enjoy coming up with new potions. I heard about Claire and decided I was going to help. This potion keeps your animalistic urges to a minimum so you can focus on the important things. I've made it just for you," I said smiling slightly.
"Smells good," he commented, taking it in his hand. I nodded and looked at Wormtail who was coming closer.
"Wormtail, once he takes this potion, I want to warn you that his initial reaction will be brief but potentially aggressive. Please back up," I said, trying not to laugh. He hesitantly backed up and so did I. He downed the potion and then dropped the vial. His eyes turned purple before settling back to brown and then dreamily glazing over. He stood wobbly for a moment before coming to his senses.
"Leah," he beamed, and Pansy almost laughed.
"Yeah?" I asked.
"Thank you...I love you," he said. I raised my eyebrows and Severus made his way over to me.
"What are you playing at?" he asked quietly.
"Revenge," I said under my breath.
"Seems like an exaggeration, Fenrir, but you are welcome. Do you feel less animalistic urges?" I asked innocently.
"Oh, I don't know, I'm feeling some urges," he smiled. I felt a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach and forced myself not to look green. My father's eyes flashed red in the dark and he looked at me.
"Seems like a personal issue. But I'll take that to mean it's working," I kept up the charade.
"You are a menace," Severus sighed and I laughed.
"You have a lovely laugh," Fenrir smiled, coming closer. I backed up and shook my head.
"Sad, then, that I despise you so much. Doubt you'll ever hear it again."
His face fell and he looked like he was physically in pain.
"Please don't say that. Never say such a thing again, you're the love of my life."
Father cleared his throat, looking at me with disapproval.
"Are you okay?" I asked.
"Shouldn't you be getting back?" he asked. I sighed and pouted.
"Yeah, and it's too bad. I was having so much fun. Don't forget to keep in touch," I winked and turned to leave, ignoring Fenrir who was repeating my name over and over, begging me not to leave him.
"You're practically torturing him," Draco whispered and I laughed quietly.
"Good," I said glancing at him. He was smiling slightly and then I felt a hand on my shoulder.
"Miss Loveland, I will escort you three inside," Severus said. I nodded and we walked up to the castle, satisfaction vibrating through me, but I wasn't done with Fenrir's punishment yet. Not by a long shot.
