Chapter Fifty-Nine

We landed on the ground with a thud and music and cheers greeted us. I sat on the ground in shock; Potter wasn't supposed to leave alive. Potter just cried, clinging to Cedric's body, and I just stared blankly with my mouth slightly open. People started realizing something was wrong, and some screamed, finally realizing it.

"Silence!" Dumbledore yelled, and everyone tried clambering out to see us.

"He's back; Voldemort's back...and Leah's his daughter!" Potter cried into the scared silence. I didn't move. I just stared into space, not knowing what to do now.

"He killed Cedric," Potter rambled on, crying and grasping the cold body of Cedric.

"My boy, that's my boy!" his dad yelled in anguish, and students started crying.

"Leah!" Pansy called, and she pushed past, hugging me tightly.

"Oh, you're alright!" she sobbed and mum ran out.

"Back away, let them breathe!" Barty growled at everyone else trying to crowd around.

"Oh, Leah, darling, you could've died! You told me he was dead, he cannot be back!" mum whispered frantically. I clung to her, and Barty pulled Potter and me to our feet.

"Come on you two," he said, pulling us roughly to his office. I had to run to keep up, and Potter was in a shocked silence. We were pushed into two chairs, and Barty licked his lips. I scanned the room with exhilaration filling me, and then my blood turned cold.

"You!" I shrieked, my eyes instantly turning red. He smirked at me and just continued lounging in his chair.

"You liar, spy, disgrace!" I listed, and Barty pushed me down as I went to strangle him.

"The Carrow's aren't your parents!" I hissed and Alex finally stood up.

"Of course not," he smiled, but he seemed much different, more at ease with me and less seductive.

"Who are you?" I asked angrily, and he shrugged.

"I'm still Alex, nothing like Ariana," he said and Barty cut in, pushing Alex back.

"What happened?" he asked us.

"The cup was a portkey," Potter muttered.

"It took us to a graveyard where Voldemort was," I said.

"The Dark Lord was there? Alright, then what happened?" Barty asked and I saw excitement clear in his eyes.

"He killed Cedric, and then took a potion to make his body return," Potter said, looking down, but Barty looked at me and I nodded; I had killed him.

"Then the death eaters showed up; Voldemort threatened to kill me, even though he said I was his daughter. Then they dueled," I said and Barty nodded, trying to seem neutral.

"You dueled the Dark Lord?" Barty asked.

"We got away..." Potter nodded and I smiled.

"You did brilliantly, Harry," I said. He nodded jerkily and I sighed.

"There's a death eater at Hogwarts!" Potter blurted and I held my breath; how did he know?

"I know Harry, I know there is," Barty nodded.

"Is it Karkaroff, is he locked up?" Potter asked urgently.

"Karkaroff? No Harry, it wasn't him. He fled the minute his mark burned," Barty scowled.

"Then he didn't put our names in the cup?" Potter asked in confusion.

"No Potter...I did that," Barty revealed, and I stayed silent.

"No...you couldn't have!" Potter gasped.

"I did," Barty nodded.

"It couldn't have been you..."

"Who put your names in underneath two different schools? I did. Who guided you two through the tasks? I did. Who dropped hints constantly? I did. Who else?" Barty said.

"I persuaded Hagrid to show you the dragons, I got Weasley to show you, Leah. You two knew what you were up against before it happened. For the second task, I gave Longbottom that book on underwater plants; it was right there the whole time. When you took a while to emerge, Potter, I thought you had drowned, and I was proud when Leah finished first. When Dumbledore awarded you with points Potter, I knew this would be easy."

"Tonight, when you were getting off pretty easily in that maze, it was because I was patrolling the outside. I stunned Fleur and bewitched Krum to finish Cedric, but instead you played hero," Barty explained and I smirked. My eyes traveled over to Alex, and he was watching me with interest.

We met eyes and I shivered, looking away. Barty had his eyes on me, but Potter was paying no attention. He looked like he was thinking. Barty brought his eyes away from me and back to Potter.

"The Dark Lord wanted to kill you so badly, and take his daughter back, and think of how he'll reward me when he finds out I've done it for him," Barty smirked. That's when Alex stood up and grabbed my arms roughly.

"Get off, what are you doing?" I asked, frightened Barty's had lost his mind.

"Killing Potter and bringing you back home, Ms. Riddle," Barty said, but in his eyes I saw this was an act. So, I acted.

"No, Alex let me go!" I yelled.

"I'll be one of his top followers...maybe even like his own son," Barty rambled on, and I snorted; he's gone mental.

"You're mad!" Potter shouted and Barty laughed, sounding insane. Suddenly, the door burst down with a 'stupefy' and Dumbledore ran in with Severus and McGonagall. Alex held me tighter as wood flew around us and I cowered into his chest. When it settled down, I smiled apologetically, but he didn't release his hold on my arms.

I looked around and saw Barty unconscious, and Dumbledore looking furious.

"Mr. Carrow, what are you doing?" he asked, seeing my red eyes.

"He's trying to kill me!" I yelled dramatically and Alex snorted.

"Both of you to the hospital wing," McGonagall said softly, taking me gingerly away from Alex.

"No, they must stay," Dumbledore said firmly.

"They have been through enough!" McGonagall said in astonishment.

"They need to understand," Dumbledore said, but he wouldn't look at me.

"This is not Alastor Moody," he said and I clenched my jaw.

"Severus, I need the strongest truth potion you can find," he said, and Severus walked off, glancing at me briefly.

"Ms...Riddle, how are you feeling?" Dumbledore asked, finally looking at me.

"Shocked...scared...mostly betrayed," I lied.

"This must be tough," Dumbledore agreed.

"Head master," Severus drawled, hurrying back in. Dumbledore ignored him and waved his wand so that Barty melted back into his true body. His brown hair fell loosely around his face and his pale skin looked deathly...he still had a bruise from when I beat him up...whoa.

"Barty Crouch...Barty?" Severus asked in shock.

"Barty," I whispered...I hope he isn't dead! I looked over at Alex and gasped, seeing a striking resemblance. Alex met my eyes and nodded slightly, so I kept my mouth shut, but continued staring at him.

"I know I'm extremely attractive, but stop gawking," he teased jokingly.

"Alex," I rolled my eyes. As we made this exchange, Dumbledore muttered a spell and Barty's eyes fluttered open. He poured the truth potion in his mouth and Barty grudgingly swallowed it.

"Can you hear me?" Dumbledore asked and Barty narrowed his eyes.

"Yes," he grumbled.

"Are there other death eaters in this castle?" he asked and I bit my lip.

Barty struggled for a moment, but he had to tell the truth.

"Yes," he nodded.

"How many?" Dumbledore asked angrily.

"Four," he said between clenched teeth.

"Who are they?" he asked and both Alex and I tensed. I shot him a confused look and he gave me the same.

"Me...Severus Snape...Alex Crouch..." he said, biting his tongue so it bled.

"And...?" Dumbledore prompted.

"And...L-l-l...." he said, struggling; he even started twitching. I held my breath and inched towards Alex who looked fearful.

"Who is it Barty?" Dumbledore yelled.

"Leah Riddle!" he shouted and I clasped Alex's hand with out realizing it.

"Ouch Leah!" he yelled and I saw blood running down his palm.

"Oh..." I mumbled and Dumbledore looked at me in shock.

"Ariana was right," he whispered.

"Prove it!" I said defensively. McGonagall grabbed my arm and muttered an enchantment, revealing my mark. They gasped and I shrunk back into Alex, my eyes burning red and a glare on my face.

"What do we do about two death eater students?" asked McGonagall.

"They haven't done anything yet, we let them be," Dumbledore said stiffly.

"I knew it!" Potter yelled loudly.

"Aren't you just oh so smart!" I spat at him and he stood up angrily.

"You knew all along, didn't you? It wouldn't surprise me if you killed Claire or Cedric," he glared and I rolled my eyes.

"Oh please," I snorted.

"Potter," Severus glared.

"Enough," Dumbledore said, and then Barty fell unconscious, making Dumbledore sigh.

"I'm afraid we have all the information from him tonight...Leah it's your turn," Dumbledore said surprising me with a potion. He basically forced me swallow it and I gagged. Luckily for me, I have a high tolerance and can easily evade the truth.

"Leah," Dumbledore said.

"What?" I snapped.

"How long have you known?"

"Not too long," I glared.

"When did you get your dark mark?"

"Christmas vacation; Lucius forced me," I said, making it seem like I was struggling.

"Are you really one of them?" Dumbledore asked.

"Never," I spat and he seemed satisfied.

"Do you really love Malfoy?" Potter asked, trying to take advantage of the situation.

"I love you, Potter," I smirked and Dumbledore sighed.

"The potion has worn off already," he said.

"It's time to face the music," I said to Alex and Potter, walking to the door and heading out.
