Chapter Fifty-Five

"What?" screeched Pansy, standing up abruptly.

"That's what you overheard?" Draco asked, looking shocked.

"Yes, and her name isn't Clarissa Moon!" I sneered, looking at the shocked faces of my fellow Slytherins.

"Who is she then?" Blaise asked.

"Ariana Dumbledore," I glared and gasps echoed through the room.

"They also know some... personal things about me. Like how I'm not really friends with the Gryffindor's," I said, and Pansy instantly stiffened, knowing I meant something more.

"Act like you don't know, but make sure you don't tell her anything! Understand?" I asked and they nodded quickly.

"Good, now she should be back any minute so act cool," I said, and then sat down next to Draco.

"What do we do?" Draco asked quietly.

"We wait it out and crush her at the right moment," I mumbled and the common room door opened, where 'Clarissa' walked in with a cool look.

"What's up?" Ryan asked, seeing as they were friends. I never really paid any attention to Nott until now. He had blonde hair and brown eyes, but he wasn't very cute.

"Just making my way back from a meeting with Dumbledore," she said, rolling her eyes.

"Fun, you get in trouble?" he asked.

"Loads, I don't know why Loveland didn't get in trouble," she glared, and I glared hatefully back.

"Dumbledore likes me better, that's why," I challenged, and she just rolled her eyes.

"It's because you're a Griffindork, remember?" she asked, but I saw burning rage in her eyes. I can now see the resemblance between her and Dumbledore. Pale white hair, sparkling blue eyes, and that air of annoyance they both give off.

"Hey, benefits of being a Slytherin who likes Gryffindor," I shrugged and she sneered at me with distaste.

"Whatever Loveland, listen Dumbledore wants us to bond. He says it's a good way to get us to stop bickering," she sneered and I cocked my head.

"No thanks," I smiled and then pulled Draco and Pansy to their feet.

"Up to my dorm," I insisted, but Clarissa grabbed my hand.

"Listen, I don't want to do this either, but let's at least make appearances," she said firmly and I shook her off.

"Whatever, we'll sit together during meals if it'll get you to shut up," I snapped, and she glared.

"Sounds good," she said, and then walked off. We ran up to my dorm and then sat on my bed.

"She's trying to get more information out of me. They know I'm adopted, and they want to use me as a weapon against my father," I said in a low voice.

"What are you going to do?" whispered Pansy frantically.

"Talk to my dad about it; see what he wants me to do. I'll wait until they make their move though," I decided and we all looked at each other; life just got a lot more complicated.

I jogged downstairs to potions after a very boring lesson in transfiguration. I was quite late since I had to write a five page essay on changing a tea cup into a mouse, and had to finish before I left. Needless to say, McGonagall hates me. I burst into the class room and walked down the long aisle to my seat.

"Ms. Loveland, care to explain why you are late?" Severus drawled and I scowled.

"McGonagall kept me after to write an essay," I said coolly, sitting next to a scowling Clarissa.

"Five points from Gryffindor," he said with a smirk.

"What?" roared Weasley and Severus glared.

"It was your house leader that kept my student after; therefore the points come from your house. Another five for your outburst Mr. Weasley," he drawled and I hid a smirk.

"Well Ms. Loveland, today your will be making a peace potion with your partner, Ms. Moon," he said and I slowly glared at her. She was already chopping up her ingredients and I sighed.

"Alright, whatever," I shook my head.

"Loveland, why don't you dice the Dragon Heart?" she offered and I hesitated before nodding. I started dicing the heart, and Moon poured in her chopped up...something. It looked like a root of some sort.

"So, the heart needs to go in next..." she said, looking at me with a small smile, and I knew she was trying to bond with me. I decided to humor her.

"Oh, I'll hurry up then," I smiled and she laughed.

"Don't rush," she shrugged, and I picked up the diced pieces, putting them in the cauldron.

"Stir that five times clockwise, then seven counter clockwise. While you do that I'll juice the birch bark," she instructed, and I obeyed. I was highly annoyed that she was ordering me around, but I had to spy on Dumbledore for my dad. This was the best way to do so.

"Alright, great, it's turning purple!" she smiled, and then squeezed the juice into it, making it turn a golden color.

"Leah, could you please shred the mint? I have to get leaves from dragon snaps," she grimaced, and I put on a fake smile and nodded.

"Of course," I said, and she smiled thankfully, walking off. I scowled and shred the mint, dropping it into the cauldron... I really want to sabotage this right now.

"I'm back!" she smiled.

"After I put these in, we stir it ten times clockwise and we're done after a sprinkle of phoenix ash," she recited from the book, and I put the leaves in. Clarissa stirred the potion and then put in the ashes, making pink steam come from our cauldron, and the actual potion was a nice pale blue color.

"Professor!" she said, sounding like the goody two-shoes girl she really is. Severus scowled as she waved him over, smiling like one of those muggle cheerleaders.

"We finished, professor," she said excitedly, and Severus looked it over.

"Indeed, job well done," he drawled. We were the first done (in your face Granger!) so we were awarded points.

"Twenty points each to Slytherin," he said, then walked away to yell at Longbottom, whose potion had exploded.

"We make a good team," Clarissa said, sounding more like the Clarissa I've grown to know and hate.

"Sure, sure," I said nonchalantly.

"I know I never should've talked to Rita Skeeter, I just never realized your only human; you've got feelings too. I mean, you've been through a lot this year! You must think I'm such a terrible person," she sighed.

Yes, I do think you are a terrible person.

"No way Clarissa, you just didn't know me enough that's all," I shrugged, and Draco was looking at me questioningly. I ignored his gaze and just smiled a friendly smile at her.

"That's true...can we start over?" she asked, offering her hand, and I smirked before taking her hand.

"You bet!"
