Ep 8: Perplexion
A figure held control of him, before he could touch the ground. He arose from the Earth, as if it's transparent to him. Whispering his name as he caught Arjun.
The figure looked like that of warriors. Roots of trees, crawling out of his chest and covering his limbs as an armour. Face covered by a mask that somehow felt similar to the cracks in a barren land. Perfect look for a superhero action movie, though his powers gave a statement otherwise.
Taking hold of his feet, Arjun stood up. Passing an inquiring stare at him, "Did you...call my name? "
The man shrugged casually as he walked away to the other man, who was draped in blue with an armour that looped around his body like a whirlwind.
"Maybe you could try not play hero everytime, you know?" The man muttered sarcastically as he brushes off dust from his legs. Arjun felt as if he did not mean to be sarcastic, he might just be high on adrenaline but did he hear a hint of care in his voice? But why would a stranger be worried for him?
"This thing," The man walked around the giant robot inspecting it clearly. "Is quite troublesome. Where did it come fro-"
A loud crash. And the man froze midway, turning to look at the large blocks of dust and bricks showering over them. He gave a thud with his left leg to the ground as the ground started rumbling and cracking open and millions of roots emerged creating a dome over the three of them. The bricks crackled against the dome like raindrops. Arjun stared in awe at the turn of events, almost secretly admiring the calm and collected demeanour of the man.
He let out a hiss, holding onto his arm as the other blue-armoured man pinched his skin, leaning closer to whisper. "Not a dream. Me too man, everything's been strange today, no?"
Arjun gives him a side glance, before his gaze falls back onto the first guy who is slowly commanding the roots back into the ground and all that's left is cracks in the once cemented road. The guy notices him, as he walks forward stopping just two steps away from him.
"You have got a lot of guts for a normal human. I mean it as an appreciation," He begins, placing a comforting arm to his shoulder. "Not a lot of people stay that calm with a bunch of soul crushing rocks almost falling over them."
Arjun did not know how to reply to that. This man seemed nice and like he genuinely meant to appreciate him but it would be good if he found better ways to word that than this.
And then when he was just about to say 'thanks' – the only automated reply he had – he was cut short by a yelp. This was the third streak of him being interrupted by either some giant ass bot, a building falling over him and ofcourse now someone screaming in horror.
And as it turns out, the man who was screaming his lungs out had just woken up and accidentally saw his walls being half-slashed open with a horrible city view. Must be nice to sleep through while half the city was running around for their lives.
The blue-armoured man just shook his head in disappointment and flew away with the other guy leaving Arjun alone to figure out whatever was on with the world today while his ears were repeatedly tortured by that bald guy's screams.
Meanwhile, Draupadi sighed and shook her head but out of blue, her mobile started buzzing itself. It fell from her hand in a wave of horror and perplexion. As she was about to pick it up, bugs begun oozing out of the mobile as if earthworms from drenched mud.
Lots and lots of bugs, all of them climbing onto anything they could, specially people. They were trying something, something like... biting? A tremor ran up her spine. They were eating their flesh... Human flesh.
She stepped on one of them trying to crawl it's way to her, crushing it under her feet. But they were too many and far too small to battle with every single one of them.
Her friend would often joke about running away when fighting wasn't physically possible. So that's what she did. She ran, as far as fast as she could until she slid around a corner, her back hitting the wall of an alley and she relaxed dropping a bit low against the wall to catch her breathes with her eyes shut wearing off the adrenaline.
Drops of sweat crawled down her neck but not all of them, that's when she felt goosebumps rising. There was a bead of sweat that wasn't crawling down rather it was slithering up her nape. And when she took a quick side glance from the corner of her eye, she realised it wasn't even sweat at all.
A quick hand rushed to her side, grabbing the bug between a pinched finger and sweeping it away.
"I thought you were supposed to squash those, not admire how they look crawling up your skin with those tiny many legs of theirs," Krishna chuckled in his ever jolly mood as he stomped his feet over the bug squashing it under his used-to-be-white sports shoes.
Honestly, how did this guy even manage to laugh in a life-death situation? Was he the type of guy who is just waiting around the corner for an apocalypse so he could suddenly pop in and showcase his inhumanely impressive survival skills?
He begun again, "Well this is the first time you took my advice well and actually ran away. I most definitely expected you to try fighting one on one with those little bugs too."
And he went on and on, talking incessantly in his jolly voice with no expectations of getting a reply. He bent down on his knees, crouching on the ground as he picked up the crunched bug examining it.
Draupadi crouched down beside him, staring at the still twitching figure. The bug was completely smashed, but his body was still convulsing and his many tiny legs jerking in a crawling motion. There was a spark coming out of his head and on a closer look – a small wire.
It wasn't a bug at all. It was a machine?
"But... But how is this possible? Even if they are machines, they can't possibly ooze out of mobile screens like that!" Draupadi exclaimed.
And her statement was true too. It isn't possible for bugs or machines to ooze out of digital screens. They are a two dimensional space and using them as portals isn't possible. It's against the laws of matter and space unless...
"Unless someone has the power to change the laws of matter and space."
