Lead My Soul Back Home
The pain that he felt that night
Led him to flee far away, out of sight
He chose to run when he should have kneeled
Thinking his feet could take him away till he healed
He turned away thinking God did too
With all of his guilt
Was there anything left to do?
He ran quickly but always in hesitation
Even so he cut of his and God's communication
"The world doesn't think there's anything wrong with me,
But I'm filthy from the inside out can't they see?"
He stumbled from his confusing thoughts
Thinking he needed improvement
Lots and lots
He tried to clean himself off in a puddle
Leaving him muddy and left with more trouble
The mud made him slip
But that chip on his shoulder
Made praying to God harder than moving a boulder
"If the world doesn't want me,
Then why would God care?
I feel so ashamed,
Knowing that he was there,
I'm filthy and evil so why would God think,
That turning away wasn't an option, When he drank that bitter drink?"
At last the man called, but he didn't shout
Instead shaky whispers came out of his mouth
"Please help me Lord,
Even if I am broken,
I'm sorry that it's been so long since we've spoken,
But this rope will soon burst,
Please end my thurst,
Take my life if you so want,
But don't turn away anymore,
I need you right down to my core"
The Lord gave an answer to the man
One clear as day
One he could understand
A verse he had read many years ago
Making his tears, starting to flow
"For I the Lord thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, fear not, I will help thee"
(Isaiah 41:13)
The verses did not come in one, but in three's
"The Lord is the support of all who are crushed, and the lifter up of all who are bent down"
(Psalm 145:14)
"When people fall down, do they not get up? When someone turns away, do they not return?"
(Jeremiah 8:4)
Even after those verses
He felt like forgiveness was something he had to earn
He then heard more
More he needed to learn
"For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him"
(2 Corinthians 5:21)
"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness"
(1 John 1:9)
With a shaky breath the man cried to the Lord
"Forgive me for what I have done,
I pray that you'll somehow still call me son,
Take away this guilt I carry,
Take away that night so scary"
The lord helped the man up as he welcomed him back home
The man cried till his eyes were sore
When the lord said calm and quiet
"Go, and sin no more"
(John 8:11)
