09. Daydream (part 2)
I could say that all my life, living in California wasn't at all easy, especially when the day was about 100 degrees or above.
Before I started walking away from the apartment building, I'd contemplated very hard on whether I should take the car or walk. I've chosen to walk since Janet didn't tell me to take the car.
I walked along the sidewalk with my earbuds in, music jamming wildly in my ears. With the hot, sun rays shining brightly on the right side of my face, I used my hand to try and block the sun off but ended up with the sun frying the back of my hand instead.
The palm trees helped to block the sun a bit, though.
While I was walking, I bumped into someone who was probably a male. They've dropped something, but I didn't stop to help them... I kept walking, not feeling the need to apologize.
I just wanted to find somewhere cool and calm—and I did!
There was a bench along the sidewalk with a palm tree casting a shadow over it. Letting out a small breath of air, I sat on it, next to an elderly woman, who had a little dog.
Changing my playlist to a calm, soothing one, I opened up my book to where I left off and started reading.
After a few minutes of getting lost in reading and listening to my music, I felt a presence near me. I turned my music down and looked up to find that no-one was there, so I leaned back on the bench and started reading again only to hear a dog barking. I looked down and saw that it was the old lady's, who was sitting next to me, dog.
I took out one of my earbuds to hear the dog's small pants with he/she's tongue out. Looking over at the elderly lady, I noticed that she was sleeping peacefully without a care in the world. I looked back down at the dog and smiled.
One thing that I knew was that I loved dogs, and if I got a hold of their attention, I wouldn't let that pass.
"Hi, you," I said softly, touching its fur carefully. "Your fur is so soft and you're so cute."
The dog didn't understand a word I said, but he/she seemed to have loved the feel of my hand touching their fur.
"Do you wanna go for a walk?" I said and the dog looked very excited as it walked around in a circle and stopped to face me again.
"Well, then..." I looked in the direction of the elderly lady and saw that the strap of the dog's collar was tied around the handle of the bench. I stood up to untie it and said as I turned to face the dog again, "Let's go!"
It will just be for a little while, I thought to myself. After all, she wouldn't miss her dog because I'll be back in time to bring he/she back.
I started walking along the sidewalk before I even thought further about what I was doing as the dog began walking forward. While walking, I tried getting a hold of everything, such as trying to shove my book to fit in my purse along with my phone and earbuds.
I was close to the beach that I lived near when I suddenly saw an ice-cream shop. I felt giddy to buy one and so I did.
After I bought my ice-cream, I continued walking with Coco, whose name I've learned when I stopped to look at his collar. The name his owner gave him was cool to me because of his fur. His fur was dark brown and I loved it.
Finally, after walking for so long, Coco and I reached the beach. I sat on the sand, under the shade of a palm tree, with Coco settled next to me.
I licked my ice-cream as I looked at the water coming to shore and back calmly, besides some people having fun in the water with their family and friends.
I felt a nozzle on my arm and I looked down to see that Coco was trying to sniff my ice-cream. I giggled and brought my hand down to his level, he licked my ice-cream and after that, my vanilla ice-cream was suddenly his.
When Coco seemed to have had enough of my ice-cream, I got up to go have some fun with him. I ran along the shore of the beach with Coco, laughing as he ran with his tongue out—happy. I fell to the sand with a smile on my face and Coco stopped up to me and licked my face, causing me to laugh even more.
"Excuse me, young miss," I looked up to find a hot lifeguard standing over me.
Woah, I thought to myself. He's hot. But, wait, why in the world would he call me young miss? That's what someone old would say!
"'Young miss'?" I said, laughing.
"Excuse me, young miss!" I stopped laughing and frowned as the lifeguard continued to say that sentence more loudly and angry that he bent down and started shaking me.
"Wait, what?" I mumbled, opening my eyes to look up at the elderly lady that was sitting next to me.
"Could you let go of my dog, please?" she asked and I looked down to notice that my hand was still on her dog's fur, causing me to retract my hand quickly.
"Oh, I'm sorry," I said and smiled slightly.
"It's okay," she said, sending a smile my way. "Have a good day!"
The elderly lady started walking away with her dog and I sighed, rubbing my forehead.
"And so I thought a little walk would help me out," I said, grabbing my book along with my phone and earbuds.
As I started my route back to my apartment, I couldn't help but think what a weird daydream that was that I even started laughing at myself. I plugged my earbuds into my ears and sped up my walk so that I could get home quickly and just in time to write a few resumes.
